This is an amazing interview. He is truly fascinating. I always feel like there are amazing people like this all around us (maybe not the same level of interesting as he is) and we just need to start talking to people and listening to hear about amazing experiences that we may never have...just like Fiennes.
He was ex SAS and was kicked out for blowing up a Hollyweird set in a picturesque English village because the filming was going to ruin the village. He had a multiple bypass operation on his heart following another heart attack so decides to run seven marathons in seven days on seven continents. He conquers his vertigo by climbing Everest. The doctors wouldn't amputate his frostbitten fingers so soon after the heart surgery so he sawed them off himself. His knowledge, humility, wit and humbleness is incredible, what an incredible guy.
There still are remarkable human beings, much more than movie stars, football stars, and reality stars. These people are the real deal. They have something I do not have.
Rans looking a little weary, thin in the face. Hope he's ok. I know he's completed an epic trek recently. He got emotional for a moment when his wife was mentioned. Bless this guy.
Just read 'Mad Bad and Dangerous to Know' and looked on line for more info about this guy. This was the most human interview I have heard. He nearly breaks when your interviewer mentions his wife. She brought him back so calmly and kindly. Could listen to her voice all day. Is she a pro mountain biker??
5:35 I grew up with a fear of heights, so I joined the Army and jumped out of perfectly serviceable aircraft for a living and became a mountaineering instructor! Go figure! I still don't like heights, but I know how to deal with fear!
Great interview. Sir Ran is the real deal.
Only a few wonderful stories from many he could tell. Could listen all day.
+Wye Explorer Me too!
