Naval Ravikant tells Joe De Sena Taming Your Desires Makes You Unbeatable

  • Angel List Founder Naval Ravikant tells Spartan Race CEO and founder Joe De Sena It all boils down to desire. Is it possible to tame your monkey mind? The part of you that is constantly distracted by the desires and pleasures that will only soothe you in the short term? Ravikant says it's not only possible but it's necessary to reach a true sense of happiness. Ravikant also explains how to find your true calling and why doing so will give you the upper hand in any business or personal venture. You become unbeatable. Success may involve years of hard work, but paradoxically, not much struggle. Instead it’s about a quest for flow. How can we tap into that flow? Ravikant will show you.
    Lessons:
    1. If you want to be the best, you need to pick one thing to be the best at.
    2. The ones who succeed are the ones who are irrationally passionate about what they’re doing.
    3. Happiness is the sense that nothing is missing in this moment.

I just subscribed why: 1:) the audio is excellent quality, 2: Its naval, he is my number one favorite tech entrepreneur.
One thing that needs to be understood is naval is an engineer and a philosopher yes he has a degree in electrical engineering, he studies other people's great philosophy, he uses one of Bruce lee's most important techniques, the combination of different systems with harmony, non extremes (non mechanical man), he found the balance.

1.) no one can compete with you in thing which you consider as fun, you will outwork( outfun) everyone in it
2.) you can get anything you want in life as long as its one thing( you have to do chose one thing and simultaneously chose NOT to do other things), problem happens when you have 10 diff desires and they create confusion in you and fight to assert their dominance over you. chase 1 thing and you will get it. and while fulfilling the 1 desire it should be something you love working and have fun rather than toil.
3.) most of the life is search for " who and what needs you the most " and " who and what you need the most"'
4.) you need to be patient and keep on improving, it takes min 10 years to build career in anything
5.) universe is constantly dropping opportunities you have to spot them and pick them up
6.) dont let virtual reality of mobile and social media dictate your desires and goals, do what you want to do and not what others are doing.
7.) program your mind or your mind will program you. rule your mind or your mind will rule you

Entrepreneur: is an entity which has the ability to find and act upon opportunities to translate inventions or technologies into products and services.
The entrepreneur is able to recognize the commercial potential of the invention and organize the capital, talent, and other resources that turn an invention into a commercially viable innovation.

happiness could mean anything to anyone like friendship and love
Internal trait that comes out of being peaceful and accepting of whatever is going on around you
its the sense that nothing is missing in the moving,
if you have a sense something is missing in this moment aka a desire that'll pull you out of this moment
our natural state is being happy
    , we're born with happiness,
egos create desire, desire pulls us out of the moment
drown that sense of loss out through pleasure, extreme sports, drugs, alcohol, porn all just trying to forget ourselves
we often are our own worst enemies of happiness
we're always arguing with ourselves, disciplining ourselves, wanting things , not wanting to want things, fantisizing things, regretting things
its a constant monkey mind loop
we're constantly being pulled out of our present reality into our phone constant little addiction
first get to a peaceful state, then add your desires one by one
most of our desires are picked up by other people, friends, social media, we copy those desires and make them part of our selves
deep down what you actually need
constant uncontrolled thoughts about past or future

I like Naval but there are a couple things that need to be said.
    1) The world is NOT efficient, rather completely and utterly inefficient.
    2) Yes, you have to remain open to new opportunities to have any chance at happiness. But that's the paradox. You can't be fully focused on and committed to the task in front of you if you're constantly entertaining new options. In which case it can take 20 years to stabilize a new business, rather than 10. And it's almost a certainty that a new path will entice you before that happens.
Basically, you end up a scanner...which is not all bad but no way to become wealthy for sure.

It would be pretty cool if there was a spartan race and there was some augmented reality or mixed reality being projected. Lots of ways to power immersive experiences, without the need to physically carry tech on you. Maybe something through the retina or some other tech.
