Too many children have died because there aren't even background checks in place when a gun is purchased. DO SOMETHING, thoughts and prayers do nothing at all.

      Our country has a chance at fulfilling its goal of freedom and "justice for all" when and only when we STOP electing Republicans. They are the ones who, time after time, refuse to do anything about the gun violence epidemic.       It should not be legal for any American to walk into a store and buy an AR15 which is designed specifically to kill the most people possible with the least amount of effort, nor should it be possible for any American to walk into a store or order BODY ARMOR online or ghost gun kits! This is simple common sense. NONE OF THOSE THINGS are necessary for hunting or for protecting one's home from being broken into by an intruder.

      Because the issue here wasn’t that someone had the idea to shoot up a school and shoot his grandmother so he bought a gun and killed more than a dozen innocent children. The problem was we need to invest 40 billion into militarizing our education system 🙄 give me a break. Greatest internal threat to our nation is gun violence biggest external threat is Russia.     I grew up in the 70s and have kids in high school now. The difference between my generation and my parents’ generation is one thing. The difference between my kids generation and my generation is like comparing the Stone Age to the fifties. The generation coming up now will be vastly different still. We are hurtling towards Ray Kurzweil’s “Singularity”. Humans are not ready for the pace at which technology will change their lives. The pressures are being amplified and for whatever reason it is driving vulnerable people to commit heinous, high profile crimes

Those bills doesn't make sense, it's like going backward 100yrs everyone carry a gun around, survival of the fittest. My basic human rights to feel safe is violated.       How dense are you? No one is trying to revoke 2nd amendment. It just needs to be "well regulated". Look at what the 2nd amendment actually says. Im Canadian and even i know this, it was primarily implemented to defend yourself against your government in the case the turned against the people. Not so an 18 yr old can go to a corner store, buy and AR 15 and shoot up an entire school.
      BTW, officers encircled that school for an hour while gunman was inside and did nothing.

      @@greg7630 Greg - exactly. All of these “proposed gun laws” do NOTHING to prevent gun crime / murders.
      The elephant in the room is realizing that the only law that would put a slow dent in gun violence would be to outlaw guns writ large. Even then it wouldn’t solve the problem. Everyone wants to be seen and heard that “this is terrible and we need to do something”……sounds good but is absurd.
      If you are against guns and want to outlaw them, ok, I disagree with you, but at least I will respect you for taking a position and will debate you. Those who yell and scream and “want to do something” are misinformed and their ideas and proposals typically will do nothing to help solve the problem but just further restrict rights.
      The hard fact to swallow is when citizens have rights, there will ALWAYS be extremists and criminals who leverage and abuse those rights and do damage. The alternative is a society with no rights and very restrictive environment.

    I live in Texas. I have a concealed carry license. Each time I purchase a firearm I fill out the paperwork and get a background check. I don’t know where these people get the idea that we don’t have a background check process in place for purchasing firearms.

      I have a LTC now and have for several years. You and I have already completed our background check. I know several people without a LTC purchase a firearm with ease. When I was 18, I purchase a 20 Guage with my drivers license only and left 15 minute later. Everyone doesn't get one and they are sometimes not comprehensive. Everyone is not like us, with proper training and registration of being concealed carry owners.

      There’s no one solution that is end all be all. This is a multifaceted issue. So many factors go into making someone commit these crimes. When I said you were being reactive, I meant instead of trying to solve the problem, your suggested solution was only to defend against. We have to be proactive with solving such a complicated issue. That means to stop looking at this issue through a toilet paper roll and take in the full gravity of situation. Until we do that nothing will change. I’m not for banning guns. I owe a couple myself. But the ease of access to firearms is a problem as well as mental health, education, poverty, and so much more. We shouldn’t be asking how can we stop a school shooter. The real question is how can we make sure no one becomes a school shooter.

      This is so dumb … excuse me but do you watch other countries? Thankfully in many European countries it requires a lot of rules and control mechanisms to get a gun. And you are not allowed to take it with you anywhere even if you have permission. Automatic guns are not legally available… so it makes it really hard for mentally disruptive people to get access. Do you think it’s a coincidence that in US happen the worst school shootings in civilized countries in the world?

      A solution is going to be a long term plan and no single law or combination of laws will be perfect, but we need to start somewhere. My vote is to adopt a realistic 1791 definition of "arms" in the constitution. It would certainly keep the death toll down of you had to load a musket ball one at a time.

    I'm very tired of the lie that there are no background checks required. You have to pass a background check to buy from any FFL dealer unless you already have a license to carry. Either way extensive checks are already done. Stop lying to the public that no background checks are required.

      There are no background checks required for a purchase from a private seller. Also, there's a federal law that's standard and NOT very extensive. Then, each state has its own gun laws that are better than others. We need universal background checks that apply equally throughout the country. You shouldn't be able to buy a gun in Indiana because of their weak gun laws to in turn transport it to Illinois because of their strict gun laws. You're just canceling out the Illinois gun laws by allowing these weak gun laws.
