I am a dietitian and I've only done and won one show. I did the show only to the prove I knew what I was doing and my methods worked and it was only a state show. At least I had the advantage of being 100% natural and caring about myself. That's the best part about bodybuilding is you get to do it all yourself and no one else to blame except you. Why do you guys trust somebody else to give them their Food and Drug protocols I will never understand. I mean doctors killed thousands of people every day because they get the drugs combination or amounts wrong. Having somebody else right up my diet train me and give me my drug protocol is the same is being on gear when you're supposed to be natural that's how much it's cheating to me. I'm probably alone on that but I like bodybuilding because all about me and my knowledge and the effort that I put forward alone.

It’s horrifying to hear this stuff. I was a non-competitive lifter and I got hooked with fat-burners and it gave me palpitations and made my breathing difficult. And eventually that with pre-workouts and 3-4 energy drinks a day caused me to crack and I fell into a suicidal depression. Thankfully I’ve recovered and will forever stay away from fat burners and energy drinks

Enhanced Pro bodybuilders should stop being spokesperson for healthy lifestyle. It's Ironic and deceiving. In that level nothing they do is healthy.
Someone should give that coach his own protocol. No competition merits the competitor to die or risk health to win.
The entire "sport"/point of bodybuilding is risking your health to win. You CANNOT be an open bodybuilder competitively and be healthy. At best you are healthier than you could/would have been if you did a different protocol. It is inherently dangerous and if you don't actively damage your health you can't compete.
Maybe I always expected it to be extreme to the risk of fainting onstage but never expected it to be risking shutting down organs to achieve the look/conditioning. It will never be healthy to be so low on body fat but expected that if only for a day you can get very close and not have to be 9 months recovering.
I agree some of these day of preparations are a little extreme and unnecessary. But the fact remains that the way these bodybuilders live their entire lives, not just contest day but the full X months prior to contest day, is deadly. Look how fast bodybuilders are dropping dead. John Meadows just died for example and he had a reputation for being very health conscious. So many more

I took 50 of clen a few times and if I took it after 5am I wasn't going to be able to sleep that night. I needed no caffeine for the day.... needless to say I stopped and threw it away. That stuff is dangerous for me. Couldn't imagine 150

I've lifted daily for 35 years..professional.bodybuilding has so turned me off these days that I tell kids it's a joke. it's basically turning kids on to a life of health problems to start doing shows. narcissistic joke. I've seen it all being in gyms that long. I have watched "the next champ" walk into the gym...good looking kid with great genetics, get hooked up with the local bodybuilding coach who had a bit of success as a pro in the early 80s . each kid I have seen over the last 3 decades has followed the same path...good build turns to great build ...jacked ...on a boatload of gas....starts doing some shows...coach tells all the knuckleheads that will listen to the bs that this kid will go far in this "sport"... kid starts placing but never gets a sniff of first place...starts to have injuries. realizes that living at his parents house has to end sometime.. coach stops dedicating all his time to the kid because he's on to the next kid he latch his hooks onto...kid turns into an adult who begins to experience a lifetime of health issues at a young age...heart issues, diabetes, high blood pressure, bald by 26 , depression, and etc etc....suicide or accidental od in the worst cases. it is a sad story I have had a birds eye view of for a long time and it has made me hate the sport...I have loved weightlifting since I started at 12...my grandfather, father, and cousins all lifted and I grew up watching them...luckily they all stayed away from trying to get into the shows etc and used it as a way to keep strong physically and mentally.....now I see these same coaches online hawking chemicals to kids that they dome shot before a workout...at 18 these kids don't need a pre workout .their balls are pumping enough testosterone naturally that they shouldn't need to get their heart racing to get in and train...the whole industry around bodybuilding is a sham
Get truly fat free and manage stress in the build up, never need diuretics
Man, not drinking for 24-46 hours is bad enough for a normal person let alone a bber on diuretics, this is intentional harm at that point

@@andrewm6421 not entirely true. He just coached Ben Pollack to his pro card (super heavyweight winner at USAs). He also does coach some male non-competitors. I worked with him for just some fat loss a few years ago. He never even mentioned drugs with me.

Too heavy use of diuretics prevents just that. Dries out the throat and makes the tongue roll up uselessly.

Thank you for telling the truth - Not a healthy sport when done to a Pro Level. 10 to 15 years from now we will see even more sad stories. Recently, several guys have died but were not "pro's" so their stories will never get told. Sad in the name of a trophy and vanity. Resistance training is awesome everyone should done some form of resistance training, but there are limits. again, thanks for keeping it real
It baffles me that people will subject themselves to all this craziness just to look "good" for a few minutes on stage.
I used to be with a TRT clinic and they had the option to use Shelby for a four week training and nutrition protocol. I used him but I wasn't going above TRT. Pretty crazy to see this now.
He probably writes it off as "they wanted to win so they asked me to tell them what to do".

This dude should be in prison. I totally understand that these people willingly took these drugs, but as a coach prescribing these protocols there’s a responsibility and liability on him. If a doctor gives out too many pain meds and someone dies they can lose their licence and or their career and freedom. Especially since there’s been 5 alleged deaths just in the last couple of years. This really should be pushed for by the families.
Derek you're forgetting one key thing: if anything, if they were even remotely ready for a show -- that would be what's killing them. In fact, the more ready they are for it, the more dangerous such protocols would be.
They're already too thin and dehydrated as it is for stage prep. Going on hardcore diuretics when you're already shredded and in a prolonged calorie deficit is horrible.
If you break past the point of minimum turgor pressure in your kidneys, they collapse and you will die if not seen by a doctor immediately. If you get rid of what little remaining potassium you have from diuretic induced urination, you die from a heart attack the same way an anorexic does. Both of these will likely happen to you while sleeping after doing this, too, due to the natural orthostatic hypotension that occurs... yes, even laying down in this state is dangerous.
Worse? The state your body is in will compel you to want nothing more in life to lay down and go to sleep.

Thanks to you Derek and others like you ,alot of ppl including me would've had no idea about "stuff" and would end up harming ourselves in the process,this is the main reason i don't get a coach when all my friends have one and they find it weird when i say i do my own research.
Coaches and Guru's should be certified and held to a certain standard and be liable for negligent malpractice, when involved with controlled substances.
You gotta remember that these substances are illegal though.
Thats the best way to prevent anyone from becoming a couch. You are responsible for what you put into your body, especially the illegal stuff. You dont sue the hell out of your local sweets seller for selling you diabetes.
