    And, of course, don't forget to let your syrup run down the side of the jar, across the counter, and under the cooktop. ;^)

    My grandfather said during service in World War II One of his mates sister would send ANZAC biscuits that were tougher than the biscuit the Ration hard tack. Hard tack Need to be soaked in hot tea and even then you still soak until it softened enough to bite through. Well the legend goes they used to bash the ANZAC biscuits and a hardtack together and boil it up to make a porridge which they where quite happy about. But his mate sister got engaged and they sent a telegram to the groom at the wedding telling him to join up as he would get better fed.. Funny his mate never received another care package from his sister.

      Shakuntala Doijode Treacle is the closest to golden syrup. Honey should work and you
      could also try maple syrup.

    Do you have to put in all that sugar? Can leave it out?

    • @mellowmarkable
      @mellowmarkable 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I was going to make these, but the amount of sugar put me off!
      These are the ingredients for the recipe in the video:
      125 grams (4oz) butter, chopped
      2 tablespoons golden syrup or treacle (see tips)
      1/2 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda (baking soda)
      2 tablespoons boiling water
      1 cup (90g) rolled oats (see tips)
      1 cup (150g) plain (all-purpose) flour
      1 cup (220g) firmly packed brown sugar
      3/4 cup (60g) desiccated coconut
      These are the ingredients from the BBC Good Food website recipe (I made this one instead). They were tasty but I could taste the bicarbonate of soda which was a bit unpleasant, so I will use less next time.
      Ingredients
      85g porridge oat
      85g desiccated coconut
      100g plain flour
      100g caster sugar
      100g butter, plus extra butter for greasing
      1 tbsp golden syrup
      1 tsp bicarbonate of soda
      As you can see the quantities for the BBC recipe are fairly similar - except the quantity of sugar is less than half and the quantity of bicarbonate of soda is double. A fair bit less butter and flour too. If/when I make these again, I will use the BBC recipe again, but halve the amount of bicarbonate.
      I think the ones in the video would be far too sweet with more than twice the amount of sugar and golden syrup 😮.
      I am sure you could make them with even less sugar, biscuits are fairly forgiving. Not sure you can leave it out completely though?

    If they’ve got fruit or nuts in then they aren’t Anzac buiscuits

    • @PilotFlight2Mars
      @PilotFlight2Mars ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You’re 109% correct.
      Furthermore, it’s illegal too sell ANZAC biscuits that have an altered recipe.

  • @PilotFlight2Mars
    @PilotFlight2Mars ปีที่แล้ว +1

    These aren’t ANZAC biscuits.
    Once you alter the recipe they become something different.
    The Australian Department of Veterqn Affairs have a guideline that ought to be respected.
    It’s even illegal too sell an altered recipe as ‘ANZAC biscuits.’
