Narcissist get offended and have to target a person who shines bright. It's part of their makeup!.
Where as healthy person uses that as inspiration to level up and improve themselves instead of how dare they let's take the target down.

I have to laugh about your analogy of the narcissist bringing the pizza to the front door, because that is exactly how my relationship to my narcissistic ex-spouse started--with a pizza personally delivered to my house. I used to joke that the only reason I dated him was because I was hungry. Little did I understand that I was truly hungry for me to show up and provide myself with self-love, affirmation and validation. Instead, I was looking outside myself. Thanks to NARP, I am healing nicely now and being my authentic self. I have no fear of narcissists now. They will run from my light!

Wouldn't it'd be nice if they actually did come out and say - " you can have this pizza but you have to accept everything that's going to come with it, for eternity."
Now if they said that part also, there'd be a lot less hurt in this world

Self-partnering. Exactly. The N sibling was trying to start with me again. Pressing me into service and engagement. In a sneaky way. She said she had some clothes for me that once belonged to someone else. I said, I don’t want the clothes. Well you can take them to the goodwill, she said. Yeah, but I have to go, I said. After that things got real bumpy. The point is, keep bringing the focus back to you and your goals and objectives and don’t let them pull you off track. It can feel like you’re standing next to a vortex that’s trying to suck you in.

I'm definitely on that path for the last two years. I was in two of the worst relationships a man can have, and it's driven me to "go my own way" and not seek the love and validation of a woman (or anyone for that matter) especially if I have to accept use and abuse that comes with modern day relationships. I lived in people's shadows for the last 55 years. I'm at the realization now that it's time to create my own shadows by my light, which I've kept shaded for so long. I once had the idea is meet the perfect wife like Carolyn Ingalls on Little House on the Prairie, but I realize that day and age in the world has come and gone. I'm tired of giving more than my all in relationships, and getting used like cheap toilet paper. So I'm focussing on loving myself, and leaving relationships to all the rich people who have more money and resources to gamble with.

Best advice ever! Thank you! I mentioned 12 years ago to a DV counsellor that when I was in public I didn't want to look like the lame gazelle because that's the one that the lions (predators) pick off. At that time even walking around in public was terrifying to me. I am so glad to see this analogy applied to the entire self and not just appearance and I wish that instead of useless school classes that we'd had lessons like this in self awareness and self development.

Ms. Evans - You are single handedly stopping me from hiding my light under a bushel.
"No one after lighting a lamp puts it under the bushel basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all in the house.
In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven" (Matthew 5:15-16).

The top signs that helps me with a narc is:
-talk to the narc's family and friends for their version (but don't tell the narc), see if both sides match up.
-say "no" to their request. They HATE that.
-watch, listen, and wait. Take it slow.
(This will take 2 weeks to 1 month)
A narc will focus on themselves. ME, ME, ME. (And will be extremely awkward and uncomfortable to be around. They will be somewhat gross too, like "Hey! Come look! Do I have anything stuck in my teeth?? Or what about this giant pimple on my nose? Can you get rid of it?"
A sociopath will focus on YOU (and try to make you comfortable BUT a little too comfy, like "can I get you some water? How about your pillow fluffed? Do you want a foot massage?"
-don't believe what they tell you right away
-drinking/smoking/gambling/fast driving, anything "on the edge" is a sign to watch out for.

You brought me to tears with your parable. Its so well drawn, unmistakable, and honestly I see thats what happened to my children. And myself. Starved for love they took what they were allowed and were shaped by the reward punishment for loving and wanting to be with me, mom.. Their pain was attributed to my image, my purported failures, scapegoated.. My beloved kids as young parents, adults, still count on me and I dont withold, and the 2 grandbabies are securely bonded with me.. But its threatening to the adults, who Ive been appropriately supportive towards, navigating a minefield, keep my place as a grandparent; I dont want to do their job, I just want THEM to do their job without exploiting me or neglecting their children. Im here to fill in the cracks, with as much gold, expanded horizons, other experiences, gifts found inside themselves, as possible.. Just like the npd ex did, every opportunity to twist my image, to demean me, is taken.. insinuations, insulting my abilities, my character etc, while net gaining the benefits, from willingness to work for, back up my beliefs, in my family values. Ostracized on special occasions, or even in my own home!! Its crazy. I dont have friends anymore. Humiliated by blame shifting family, or in front of people, found out I am on my own. Its a betrayal to deal with, that reinforces the kids behaviors by condoning them. Because they know others know and say nothing.. I own rural property and have costs and maintenance, have had to just let so much go or have to learn to do the labors, mans work, as well as give time and extend efforts to nurture kids. Im almost 60, theres no starting over again. Im just tired of the lack of reciprocity, going without, and idc about strangers or want any part of a substitute, some "friend" group, ya know? Im very independent and hard working, and have ethics. Thats not what I find at my door.

PS, And no more ssri's. again thanks. i believe in God. i must learn to let go negativity. give it to him instead make myself sick. god loves karma. your lessons globaly is the way to make this world right.

Melanie... because so many people are ruled by emotion.,,, get victimized by their empathy... these narcissist therapy sites typically focus on emotional empathy. There is definitely the "emotional intelligence.." the quality of the feeling empathy one has. Sometimes, people refer to the cognitive empathy... the ability to mentally process what the other person is feeling. So that's another factor. The human psyche, however, has the means to handle the narcissist's manipulation (or any harmful manipulation),,, it's called adult thinking. Critical thinkers are strong in their adult thinking. Adult thinking is what one develops with age, social experience... but is expanded & enhanced by any learning environment... college being one ideal.

Melanie, my narcissistic mother has got my kids living with her because of my breakdown and the CAS worker who placed them there was also a narcissist. Instead of mom helping me and allowing me rest to grieve the loss of my dad, she continued to purposely isolate me knowing I had my kids all on my own with no support or compassion. Her whole side of the family are narcissists including my only brother. He is not only a narcissist but physically abusive. I need some help to know how to prove I am far better to have my kids than for them to be there. I need the help of a lawyer.

My child made a sexual allegation against his father. So I have stopped contact. There was an investigation and social services are involved. My sons grandmother on his dads side, came round to see my child 2 days before he was due to give an interview for an ABE, I welcomed her into my home trusting she wouldn't talk to him about the investigation and i believed it was the best thing for my child as he loves his grandmother. During the visit she gas lit my son, telling him what he said wasn't what happened. Im not sure what else she said to him, but he refused to do the ABE in the end. After believing it was in my child's best interest to see his grandmother. I then stopped further contact because she sabotaged his chances of speaking out. And also by doing this it shows she hasn't got his best interests at heart. At this current time, he isnt having contact with his dad or grandmother. Until it goes to court. Yesterday I received a parcel for my son from his grandmother. Theres a letter inside but I havent had the courage to read it because the stress is through the roof. And anxiety. What do you suggest I do? If I give my child the gift he will not understand why he can't see his grandmother because I still haven't explained to him what's going on. He is 4 and I dont know what to tell him. Or do I not give him it and get accused of parental alienation. P.s my child's father thinks im doing this to punish him and that the authorities are taking it over the top by investigating....

Yes, everything exists out there - from the lowest of low to the most wonderful of authentic and real. Please know it is NOT about them and there variants - its about YOU and living aligned with your truth and values and having boundaries. Partial or terrible - does it matter if people dont meet you at a level of truth and value? Taking our power back against abuse is always about healing and developing self - there is no other focus to have. I hope that this makes sense xoxox
