Christine your allotment is so productive, its fab to see you growing, harvesting then cooking all the bounty. I always like to see what you've been up to at the plot. The carrot cake looked very delicious. I will give it a go, you made it look simple and adaptable. Thanks for sharing, bfn. 🐞🌻🌱
Put teh strawberries outside until February as they need exposure to cold over winter to fruit well. Hope that helps. I think Foxy Loxy wants more cake, bless him. He is so beautiful. Cold and a hungry time of year. I buy dry dog food to put out for my garden foxes. I just love your cooking sessions on your channel. Thank you so much. I really appreciate your recipes. Happy growing 🙂
@bewoodford2807 Thank you for the strawberry advice, I'll look to pop them outside. Yes fox has loved the cake, I admit I did drop off some dog food this week, I was feeling guilty! So pleased you like the cooking. 😊
Strawberry tip - just leave them be. They are soo hardy, no extra faff necessary. If the pots are frosthardy, you could put them outside during the winter. Then they get rained/snowed on, so no need to remember watering. Otherwise I would give a little water until they die back and again in the spring. In the spring, cut back the dead leaves and fertilize for the coming season.
I support this, most of my strawberries survived dormant in pots on my balcony in Oslo last winter, it was a very long and cold winter, we had -20 C for a couple of weeks. I had some leaves and straw on top of the pots, and there was lots of snow which I suppose also gave some protection.
Oh I love carrot cake 🍰 with icing 😋. Corn has huge roots and they are very hard, here the farmers just cot them off about 3” from the bottom. What lovely blue skies Christine 💙. I still can’t believe how close the fox gets 🦊 to you, we steer quite clear of our critters 🦝 and coyotes. My god if I had tomatoes 🍅 still I’d mention them too 😂. Have a marvellous week, Ali ☔️🇨🇦
Hi Ali, we don't really like the carrot cake icing, mad I know! Yes I'm now seeing the benefit of cutting off the corn and leaving the roots in the ground - that was hard work! 😂 The fox is definitely a friend now, I do try to ignore it but it is having none of it. 😉
It's so surprising how tough those sweetcorn roots are - I left mine in the ground, just snipped them at the base to hopefully rot down into the soil 🙂
I think the lavender will surprise you once you with plant out or into bigger pots they will thrive. Not sure if they just grow to size of the pot but makes sense that they can't grow any bigger than the size of the pot can they 😂
Hi You've been so lucky with your tomatoes. Did you cut and freeze the sweetcorn pumpkins? Mr fox doesn't give up does he? Glad he's much better. I don't know anything about allotments so will you be winter sowing or planting anything? Enjoy the week💯👏💞
Very lucky with those outdoor tomatoes, fingers crossed that happens again. We ate all the sweetcorn quickly so didn't have enough to freeze, I intend to grow more next year. Pumpkins, we are roasting those but looking for more recipes. For Winter I'll be growing lettuce and cabbage in the polytunnel. Outside planting garlic and onions. Possibly planting a green manure, like field beans outside. 😊

Thanks so much, I've been very lucky with certain crops this year. It is a really nice, easy recipe, highly recommend. 😊
The carrot cake looks delicious.
It didn't last long so that's always a sign! 😊
that cake looks fab, the fox is walking normally now thanks to your care.
Nice easy recipe and yes, fox definitely healed, I can sleep a little better at night now! 😊

Excellent, thank you - love the thought I can pretty much leave them be! 😊

@doras.allotment Now why didn't I think of that! 😃
