There are places where he definitely needs practice for the technique but I enjoy more musicians that don’t play perfect but therefore with lots of passion and musicality. Eddy’s Sibelius has a lot of passion and he also makes you feel the mood the piece should have. I also want them to upload some videos where they play seriously. With a string quartet or solo stuff. Yup. It was a HUGE honor for Brett and Eddy to be invited, so it was probably best they didn't do the really chaotic (and howlingly funny) routines like they did for Menuhin. It has been great fun to watch all the stuff they've put out so far on Queen Elisabeth and so heartwarming to watch the finalists' interactions and how they tried to help our boys for their performances. All these finalists are great musicians - hope they all go on to greater heights. Brett and Eddy are so humble. It's AMAZING how much they've improved since they started TwoSet. Those 2 judges must have had a blast and managed to keep straight faces. Their critiques were helpful, especially the comment about doing things differently, meaning taking risks during a competition. But I think Brett got it exactly right about being true to yourself - even in this kind of space.😀

    Listening to them both play, all I could think was how beautiful the music was -- even when a super-top soloist who wins international competitions ISN'T playing it. All of this music is so gorgeous and strong, and the classical world acts like being off by one nanosecond will cause it all to come crashing down in ruins. Clearly, that's just not the case.

    • @luoxis
      @luoxis 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      When in a competition to find out THE BEST, every nano mistake is crucial. Just like running in the Olympics, where there's often a fraction of a second between gold medal and not being on the podium.

    Everything changed when Eddy played the Sibelius, and I knew they were going to tell him to play that instead of the Brahms. In the Brahms, he's still just 'going through the motions', trying to get through it because he's still learning it, and you can hear that. But the Sibelius was different; he surprised them with how he played that one. And BRETT....going along with the bowing jokes was funny, even funnier because he's so deadpan!

I don't know what it is but so rarely I've heard it played with enough patience, the slow bits as slowly as I'd prefer. 🤔 & I don't even care if it's somehow 'wrong' to play it more slowly, I just keep loving that slower approach.
