Two big reasons we lost the finals were:
Boston had 4 ball handlers that could get buckets like guards.
Whenever we switched, the paint was unguarded. We need another 7ft that can play the 3&D wing and be the point of attack defender. SGA, Antman, and the Celtics have taught us that they could pull up in mid-range. A 7ft PF (Alex Sarr) will shut them down.

I would love that the Mavs will Get De Andre Hunter & Bognanovic from Atlanta Hawks.
Jerami is the better fit mostly because when he does play winning basketball, he can impact both sides of the ball more consistently than Tobias.
Adding Grant would definitely improve the team, but he is not the POA defender that DJJ is since he would replace him in the starting lineup. Grant on isolation is a good defender, provides help defense, and can use his length to disrupt passing lanes. He just struggles with screen navigation, and DJJ is pretty good at navigating screens, which is crucial for guarding opposing teams' best shot creator/ ball handler.
I feel if Grant is acquired, then P.J. would have to be the POA defender for the starting lineup. Unless Mavs decided to bench him, and DJJ starts, but I doubt that will happen.

Thybulle is horrible on offense it’s DJJ without the athleticism and his defense isn’t as great as people think. From this playoff run it’s obvious we need a third offensive creator or more wing depth.

As a Blazers fan who follows Luka frequently I like the fit of Grant. He is a good-great 3point shooter for his size. Athletic, crafty, and smooth big wings are always positive assets. I do worry that his salary will remove some of the flexibility of Dallas. He can play small forward but is seemingly utilized as a full time power forward since his time in Denver ended.
Would those dudes not be a slightly better version of PJ and the exact same role? I would rather give PJ room to grow, and use the cap space to improve the bench

Grant over Harris, BUT if the Mavs are sending $30m to POR in a trade, I'd rather get Brogdon & Thybulle.
Brogdon has been a 50/40/90 scorer, 6MOY, is a good defender, and can playmake. Thybulle is a proven All NBA defender. Adding both for THJ & Green would be immediate significant upgrades both offensively & defensively. PLUS, it adds another wrinkle into a BOS rivalry.
Jerami grant for the simple fact that he is a better 3 pt shooter. I’d say they are similar defensively maybe a slight edge goes to Tobias but he struggles from three whereas grant has been a consistent good 3 point shooter and our offense needs that desperately

I like the idea of Brogdon + Thybulle actually. Thybulle is the guard defender we need and he can shoot solidly and Brogdon is the third ball handler we need. I think he would really unlock our three guard lineups like Dinwiddie did in 2022 while also being a better defender.

There is a lot of issues with this. Grant is not a bad player but on a bad contract considering you are going to still need to add a little something. He is 30 and has averaged 54 games played in the last 4 seasons. You are strapping yourself money wise for a player who barely play half the season so that he can opt out and leave for whatever reason. We need to be looking at younger players that fit the timeline better. Although it takes two to make a deal so doesn’t mean that is there but Advija, Murphy, Herb Jones, Kispert, Hunter, Kuminga, beauchamp, okoro, Jalen Johnson, Bridges, Keegan Murry, Nesmith, Kelvin Johnson, and Moses Moody are all players I would explore before Grant.

With the salary cap rising the next couple of years his contract won't look that bad.

@@Frank-hv7xj Maxi really doesn't suck. He's good on D. He has no confidence shooting, but that's fine as a third for 5 min or less. I think it's important to keep PJ in a singular role, and everyone else.
Grant is a 4, and Dallas needs a 3/2 if they lose Jones Jr. The best is Thybulle. Dallas has two 4/3s, with PJ and Prosper. It is true that they need a third scorer, which could be Hardy or acquire a veteran.
Hardy is the only guy on my non tradeable assets outside Lively, Gafford, Kyrie and Luka
He's a small forward so he can easily play the 3. Keep PJ at the 4.
Brogdon Thybulle Grant
Exactly we need someone like grant in the starting line up and djj on a cheap on the bench and bring on someone like trey murphy trust me that boi can shoot I was watching New Orleans agains the okc and that was there only shooter grant and maybe Dani from wizards is a good pick up

Grants downside make him realistic with Mavs assets. As number 3 option hes good. Mavs need talent at wing, he would bring just that.. If we wanted a better player we shouldnt have squandered assets. Tobias is a strong no with his disappearing act.
Jerami sounds interesting, he might be hungry at this point, but I'm not willing to do it if it means not extending DJJ.

J. Grant is a 4 who can't defend guards onball, so there's a ton of redundancy with PJW, who is one of our best. What you need to bolster the most is a 3 who can defend guards onball.
Ship out THJ to sign DJJ, then use Green -- and if necessary Maxi and picks -- to create competition for DJJ at the 3, is what I would go for if the market allows it.
Our guard depth with Exum and Hardy needs to be left alone, If we are upgrading wings, we need to throw in Green, THJ, or Washington to get the bigger piece. Would not be shocked if we got Harris and Grant honestly. Sands family has money to throw at Luxury.
No Tobias, no Grant... we need high IQ players. That's what the Celtics are amazing. All their players have high IQ, the whole roster play basketball the right way. Bring Bogdanovic and someone else...

Id trade for my most desireable first..Andrew Wiggins..or Miles Bridges..or Bogdan Bogdanovic. I dont think Wiggins is washed. Heard hes had some family problems last couple years, not sure if thats true. Still pretty young..seems like a perfect fit. I think a change of scenenery would be great for him. Look what it did when he got traded to the Warriors. Look how much better PJ and Gafford look on our team. We have good culture, good chemistry, good group of guys.
Could sign Gordon Hayward to vet minimum, cant have enough wings. Wouldnt mind signing Pat Bev to a vet minimum or Kyle Lowery, not sure if he is a FA.

Out of these players, the only ones we wouldn't have to spend a lot on that we could add to improve the lineup would be Thybulle (Sub for DJJ), Jones and Hawkins (would have to include DJJ for this one and would improve SF ans backup SG), D. Finney Smith (would replace Maxi minutes), Dinwiddie (replace Markief Morris), and Wiggins (move DJJ to bench role). I think the others either cost too much or are not worth their salary. Klay Thompson could be a good addition if he takes a bench role and a paycut.
For Wiggins, it would have to be THJ and Kleber with possible and probably Hardy or Greene. We might be able to get a pick or two if we did it this.
The fact that you put Herb in the "doesn't cost too much" cstegory makes me crack up.

Trade PJ and DJJ(after extending his deal) along with 2025 1st round pick and you get Alex Sarr. I think Mavs fans realize that both forwards are liabilities on offense otherwise so many fans wouldn’t want PG13 or Lebron to join. Is Alex Sarr worth it? His Defense alone makes him a better replacement for DJJ . As for offense, PJ and DJJ avg 20ppg together for most Mavs games . Sarr definitely has the potential to avg that alone.

Name one significant play Harris has ever made in a playoff game? Grant is overpaid but solid all around. I’d prefer Jimmy but Grant would be a nice consolation prize.
Thybulle is a must. He wants the Mavs, the Mavs want him. Resign DJJ and now you have two defensive wings for cheap.
Hope for Hardy, Omax, Washington, and Lively development. If they don't develop as hoped, make a midseason trade for a 3rd scorer (unless Hardaway trade can help us find that during the off-season). Sign Dinwiddie or some equivalent for cheap this summer.
Grant is a risk contract wise (stuck with him if things don't work, limiting Luka and Kai championship window). Harris is a risk talent wise and causes more problems than solving solutions. Mavs would regret Grant like Parsons deal, Mavs would regret Harris like C-Wood deal
People forget Dinwiddie is big enough to play the 3 as an every day player. IF we are going to win we have to upgrade over PJ and DJJ.

Maxi had the highest plus/minus on the team consistently every game prior to the shoulder injury in the playoffs. He’s a really good fit when healthy, but that’s the problem. He’s injured an awful lot. The best skillset any player can have is to be able to STAY ON THE COURT. If you’re not available to play it doesn’t matter how good/great you are.
Just replace Maxi and Tim. Resign DJJ

What if the Mavs traded THJ and Josh Green for Jordan Clarkson and resigned Reggie Bullock for the vet min?
1) Most importantly this would give the Mavs the space they need to offer DJJ the full MLE to resign him.
2) Mavs held BOS to 107 or less in every game.. their defense was great but they struggled to score when either Luka or Kyrie sat. Clarkson can get buckets when one of them need to rest.
3) Bullock is not great but all you’re asking of him is to replace Green- play D and hit open 3’s. If he can still do that than you are at least breaking even, keeping DJJ, and getting your bench scorer.

Grant may only be lazy because he’s on a team looking to rebuild. For all we know this could be a PJ situation where Grant is capable of giving the effort on a contending team.

PJ would then come off the bench most likely and that just makes the team that much deeper and the guys coming off the bench of would be Hardy, PJ, Gaff or lively, and whoever else they could pick up.. would easily become of the best rosters in terms of top 7-8 players

Harris is not a joke, but he is regressing from year to year, he is not a guy I would take a flyer on. Dinwiddie can actually play the 3, he did it on our Playoff Run a couple years ago, he can do it again, and he would be cheap. You then add Grant, and ship off Green and THJ and a couple firsts. You then have PJ, Exum and Hardy and Gafford playing the bench. Our wings need to score. It cant be our guards carrying us.
Jerami Grant definitively will be 19.403% of cap in 27/28 because the new CBA locks the annual cap increase at 10% on the high end. If the current-year cap projection of 141 is accurate he can't be any less than that. Might be you just disagree with this years projection tho, mb if so.

The only way to keep DJJ is to free up enough space under the first apron for full MLE (like trading Hardaway into DET cap space). Using full MLE hard-caps you at the first apron. This means you can not go above the first apron at any time in 24-25 season for any reason. Thus, to trade for Grant you have to match his salary completely. Once you take minimum roster charges into account this means you either have to trade EVERYONE outside of the top 6 (starters+Lively) or you will need to trade either Gafford or PJ in the deal.
Are we sure we wouldn't prefer Thybulle and Brogdon as a 3&D wing & 6th man respectively? Same money as Grant.

I’m ok with losing maxi in the thybulle and Grant trade. Maxi is only good for 2-3 months a year. I really don’t want to lose DJJ tho. If we can somehow have him AND pj off the bench instead of starting, with upgrades taking their spots, this team will win a finals
Balancing rosters is going to be tricky under the new CBA once the penalties kick in. It's going to show that you CANNOT pay Max money to non-max talent. It handicaps teams too much.
