That's why my favourite path in hoi4 is fascist UK, it really is original, has unique mechanics and it's not memey like CSA 2.0 or reforming Central Powers(though you can be standard fascist USA if you take advisor quickly enough and have better game this way).
But well, Byzantium is also fun to play IMO, especially when you figure out how to get Hitler as Basileus.

It really hit me once I played this dlc that Greece has just been in debt for over a century. Of course, many will be in the same boat soon.....
Greece has been in crushing debt since its independence from the Ottomans. The Brits got them in an awful debt trap in exchange for supporting Greek independence.

Being Greek and being Roman became synonymous concepts in the medieval period and studying that period in our country's history, yes we view it as our country's history, is a genre of scientific research in this country.
If you're arguing that it should be renamed to the ERE, so does Paradox, and that's why the Democratic version is the Eastern Roman Republic.

Have some sort of focus that gives the Turkish majority political power and reform into the Sultanate of Rum as a sort of post-apartheid Byzantium, with its own mission tree.

Fun fact: as Greece, if Bulgaria wants to take Thrace and Macedonia, it won’t actually let you refuse it. They just take it. Great game design. It even prevents you from forming Byzantium
My favourite is when going historocal Metaxas route in a historical game, I decided that Id do the focus that gives me a puplet war goal on Bulgaria, figured I could use them as a buffer and it wss one less axis minor to deal with.
I attacked, won quickly, ouppeted them, then they promptly took a focus which made them not only join the Axis, but magically free themselves.
I spent the next year of the war desperately defending the bulk of axis hordes in the mountains around Thessaloniki, thank god the Brits were ahead in the naval game in the Med (though they lost all of North Africa, including the Suez) so they had taken Zara and Italian Albania, and the Italians never justified on Yugoslavia.
Eventually Id grinded down the Axis enough and managed to build my forces enough so that I could start pushing them back into Bulgaria, I'd capitualted Bulgaria with the help of British and Free French units and were threatening Romania, then Germany declared war on Yugoslavia for Slovenia, and I had to fall back to those same mountains (and actually had to defend the Eprius-Thessaloniki line) and wait till Barbarossa so that we could take back the Balkans.
Not only after the war I not get Bulgaria my former puppet (a communist coup meant that all the land went to comintern Bulgaria), I didnt get Albania which I occupied with my own forces, the Dodecanese which I had invaded myself using my own fleet and troops.
All I got was Sicily, and fucking GREEK EAST GERMANY/PRUSSIA because the Soviets were too busy annexing my occupied territories and North Africa to creat East Germany.
Fucking hell paradox.
Some Greeks in rural areas during WWII, as well as in some islands, still considered themselves Romans, not Greek.

If you want to avoid the need for a world conquest, go ahistorical and set all the AIs to random focuses. It's never clean, but boy is it always something to see. Like my current game where Portugal joined the Greater East Asian Co-Prosperity Sphere. PORTUGAL.
IMO, all these focus trees really shine when you allow the AI to do whatever it wants in any of them.

Hey Mr. ISP, you should play the USA State Redux mod, whether you play the world game mode of just the NA states game mode, Democratic California is really fun to play in the mod as it can annex a bunch of state with little to no downsides.
