I lost 85 lbs over the last 5 years eating a whole food plant-based diet. I've experienced many other health benefits. My old clothes don't fit at all. I still have more to lose but my visceral fat is SO much less. These videos from Dr. Liu are absolutely stellar, SUCH great information. I've been sending some of them to my keto friend who has actually GAINED significant weight and has a host of other terrible health problems. Keto gets into people's brains like a cancer and directs them to basically self-destruct with atrocious diet choices.

Hello Dr. Liu, You are providing invaluable information to the public. My hat off to you, Madam.
    Please allow me to pontificate.
I grew up in the 60s-70s. My parents are Eastern European and we never ate processed food. To my parents, potato chips, fritos, soda, and twinkies were not 'real food'. My parents cooked at home. I never went to McDonald's until I was 12 yo. And, that was only because a friend had driven my Mom and me to a store and the friend wanted to stop at McDonald's. Of course, my Mom agreed to go to McDonald's because her friend wanted to dine. Otherwise, there is no way we would have stopped at McDonald's.
I remember when gas stations sold 4 things: motor oil, antifreeze, wind screen fluid and petrol (gas). Now, every candy and chip imaginable is at the gas station. No wonder why the health of the country is in a sad state of affairs.
It really takes strength to change and I feel isolated because the culture has bad food choices at every turn.

I am allergic to vinegar… I get hives and have since childhood. I figured it out after a severe reaction in 2012 when I started using vinegar and oil on salad everyday for a week. I haven’t had hives since I stopped vinegar and things that have it as one of first three ingredients in condiments or food. I am 66 now and wished I had figured it out decades ago

I saw your video on lead in chocolate so wondering if you know balsamic vinegar is high in lead since you suggest consuming it in this video. Or at least according to the LeadSafeMama website she is saying it is in a newsletter that just came out today. I'm swearing off chocolate because of lead and cadmium though I worry because I read it's also can be in carrots which I love eating. Seems nothing is safe to eat. I suspect my mom and her siblings all had lead poisoning because of their behavior because they grew up on a farm drinking lead contaminated well water so that's why I'm not chancing it with chocolate or balsamic vinegar seeing how lead affects people. Thank you for your videos. I am learning a lot and have drastically changed my diet.

super video! Ive lost now 37kgs on whole food plant base diet. Life style change I am keeping. Just one thing about C section babies. We are 4 children and all 4 born via c section. All 4 of us where top of our classes and excel in academics. Only time we missed school was with chickenpocks and hardly ever got sick as kids. We grew up on a farm and grew up spending most of our time outside and ate organic meat and veggies grown on the farm. So not sure about the statement on C section kids.

I was C section, born to a Type 1 Diabetic mother. I never had the benefit of natural birth, or of colostrum/breast milk as my mother couldn’t feed me. I was fed with formula or cows milk nigh on 70 years ago & have had lifelong health issues.
The benefits of growing up on a farm, drinking raw milk may well have helped offset any losses in the birth department. I do feel very sorry for your poor mama having to go through that 4 times, though! My two natural births were a doddle in comparison.

Thanks for the info doctor. You know many other video channels that have a Chiropractor who is also an expert in nutrition tend to push the keto diet - high in meats and vegetables. But you seem to be indicating a more balanced diet. So since I want to lose weight it is somewhat all confusing. I believe your info more though since you are an MD.

I am the same way, if I tell myself I am not going to eat a certain food, like peanut butter, then when I am at the supermarket, I joke that an alien took over and led me right to the jar of peanut butter to buy without hesitation. Now what I do if I want to avoid certain foods to lose weight, for example the same peanut butter, I tell myself, “not now”. That helps me establish that it is not forever, but for now. I have been able to walk away from the peanut butter and the alien too. 😂

I never heard that about c section kids and I had two. Never sick, had perfect attendance in school and very good grades. What reason would there be to tie a c section to more colds and lower school performance? My sections were due to breech not gestational diabetes.

Of course It's not everyone. Gut microbiome changes. C section does not allow for natural vaginal flora to colonize infections which can change an infants immunity.

Some swaps you can make: cauliflower rice, sweet potato fufu, cabbage fufu. Try to add leaf greens and other veggies to your stews when possible. Try to limit beef and goat to a few times per month and lean more into beans, fish and chicken as main sources of protein. African food is rich in fermented foods (i.e. fermented millet porridge, fermented swallows and fermented fish) these are excellent ways to promote healthy metabolism help to digest higher carb foods. Africa has wonderful ancient whole grains like fonio, sorghum, millet and teff that can be used as rice substites as well. Good luck on your health journey!

I don’t know if this is helpful but I live in the U.K. and have had weight issues
When I’m in Africa, I eat yam, plantain and rice everyday and still lose weight
But I do walk a lot, swim and I think the heat helps too
Maybe if you can find bulgar wheat instead? And maybe eat smaller portions of the carbs and more of the okra/cassava leaf/beans
I’d be really interested to know more information on this

@Healthyimmunedoc everything is so confusing. I was watching Dr. Ken D Berry, on TH-cam. He's advocates carnivore really hard. Even as far as to say eating processed meats are ok. I'm pretty sure I have fatty liver. Self diagnosed of course. But you almost have be your own doctor these days. Or at least a bio chemist. But what you say seems to make sense to me. Alot of doctors are like the democrats and Republicans in the congress. They can't seem to agree on anything. Lol. But I guess the truth is always somewhere in the middle. Anyhow, I'm going to continue follow you, and try to follow up on your knowledge. Keep the videos coming doc.😃

Of course it is. It’s not wheat, barley, rye or oats - although oats do contain gluten, it’s in a different form, Aveninin, which is far less of an issue for most people.
But then oats generally, especially if you can find steel cut oats or oat groats, are far less processed & refined than the other grains, especially wheat.

I am appreciating your advice, but I’m going to give some criticism on some of the things you mentioned; I let it go in your last video about what you said about when FDR got polio, but I am going to say something about what you said in this video about Dr. Atkins,…you need to tell the truth about that. Dr. Atkins slipped on ice, fell and died of traumatic brain damage. He might have been over 200 lbs and making money off of people from his Atkins Diet, but he didn’t die from that, he died from slipping on an icy sidewalk and busting his ass (well, his head).

We don't know how long Dr. Robert Atkin would have lived without hitting his head.
"On April 8, 2003, Atkins slipped on an icy sidewalk in New York City, hitting his head and suffering a traumatic brain injury. He was rushed to the hospital and underwent emergency surgery to remove a blood clot. He remained in a coma for nine days until he expired on April 17." - crossfit

Some say the slip on the ice is just a cover story for falling from a heart attack. His congestive heart failure could have him 20 to 30 pounds heavier. I reversed my congestive heart failure (after Cardioversion and cardiac ablation fixed the cause) by 30 minute walks 4 times a week, taking the stairs and dumbbell workouts. The more meat and eggs I gave up the more medications I could give up.
