My personal 5 things I hate about my 2015 Durango R/T

Really cant understand people that buy a car knowing its size than start complaining about it. If you need 7 seats and space for luggage you should have bought a full size suv, like a Yukon.

well actually he should have got a suburban, or yukon/tahoe xl which has the 7 seat capacity plus the full size cargo space

Aside from the crackling in the trim all the things you hate are things you should have realized before dropping the 60k on that ride... I have a 2018 R/T with one car seat and the captains chairs in the back and it's perfect. As for luggage there is a roof rack or you can use you're hitch to put one of those cargo racks. We did that for years with 3 kids in an 02 Grand Cherokee and it worked out fine....

Get one for sure. A deer just totaled my 2015 V8 AWD Citadel 32k miles. I drove it for a week. I am stuck at home far beyond depressed. They are really amazing vehicles.

I have that exact same one... same year, color, same package..... I can’t think of anything I hate about mine. Mine has black leather throughout. I do agree with the chrome trim but for a different reason. Mine doesn’t make any of those “crackles” BUT when the sun is shining on it....BLINDING!!!😂 Mine also has the 2nd row captains chairs. We have 3 kids and it makes it SO nice for one of them to be able to walk through to the 3rd row.
I had a dash cam installed... front/rear and I love it. The rear camera had to be installed into the roof/panel itself became NOTHING sticks to that material. It kept falling off and dangling & I’d have to go back into car toys and have them try to get it to stick again. But I sure do love my durango.
You can't hate on the car because the manufacturer messed up on the beats radio mistake, how is that your car's fault? also, you can't hate on the car because of the amount of storage room behind the third row, or did you not go to a dealer to physically look at the car before you bought it?

I have a '15 Blacktop Limited. I LOVE it. But I do HATE the chrome on the dash. It doesn't make any noise, but in sunny California, when the sun hits it at the right angle, it can be blinding. Would have much rather seen it done in the satin aluminum finish like the paddle shifters. As for the tires, mine came with Kuhmos, which were fine. I replaced them with Pirellis which are much better (and more expensive). I have 66k miles and so far, no issues. I love it!
I had a ‘14 R/T with 3 complaints:
1) The interior build quality. Like yours, lots of loose plastic and interior squeaks/rattles... including the sunroof (right by my ear). Dealer never did fix it.
2) Ride quality. I understand it’s a “sporty” version, but it rode like it had no suspension. If you ran over a pebble you’d feel it, and hear for that matter. Interior noise was on the loud side for a $45K SUV.
3) The MDS on the 5.7L was annoying when it would cut 4 cylinders. Vehicle had a very prominent vibration around 45-55 mph. The switch back to 8 cylinders was very noticeable and equally annoying.
On the positive, I had no mechanical/electrical issues. The engine performed well towing 5,000 LBS, and with a cool stripe kit, it turned a head or two. I was rear ended by a texting driver while sitting at a stop light (not totaled, but I didn’t want it back after that). The ergonomic seats and active head restraints did their job. Despite the jolt, I had no back or neck injury.
Nice R/T. I have the 2016 Black with the Blacktop package. As for the tires, my R/T came stock with Bridgestone Ecopia H/L. Excellent all season tires so you may want to look into those. That noise around your center stack seems to just be your truck so get it checked out. Mine is put on pretty solid. Bucket seats in the 2nd row are definitely more convenient and yes the trunk space is horrible. But overall this truck is a beast and the 2018 SRT will be monster!
I have a feeling this guy doesn't understand how tires work.. in other words he will never be happy if he thinks tires dont slide in the rain...
I have a 2018 R/T. Love it. I replaced the stock tires with Landsail Ultra High Performance tires. I took a chance on less expensive tires. They are great. The Bridgestones were decent but noisy. The LS tires reduced the noise, are all weather, and stick to the road. I have not gone through a winter, however the manufacturer tells us the tires will perform extremely well. So far they are amazing. The interior shiny bits are indeed cheap plastic. They can be changed with better products. Like everything else there are better quality after market bits. Cheers.
If I posted a 5 things I hate about my Durango R/T, my list would be very different then yours.
1) The Shifter. I would like to have a standard T shifter over the stupid knob. I constantly look for a handle to rest my hand on.
2) The Glove box is tiny. Not much room inside it to put things.
3) Center console is also very small. Not much room to store things.
4) No Race Blue Option. I love White Knuckle White which is what mine is like yours but that Dodge Race Blue color is amazing.
5) Top of doors are hard plastic. It would have been nice to have a softer touch material there.

Daniel Hunsinger I would have to agree with your #1-#3. I love my '14 R/T but I think if they can change those things plus, it's hard to hear the radio with the windows down unless the volume is way up, then I'd be willing to trade up my almost paid off 'rango for a newer model.

i have the same car in all black with second row bucket seats. i haven't had any of the problems mentioned in this video. i love it. it's quick roomy attractive. and at 6 foot 2 i fit comfortably in the third row. you cant say that about the Tahoe even with the 20 grand premium you would pay for it.
I work for a rental car company so I’m exposed to almost every car under the sun and i can confirm you’re las statement. Two adults could fit in the third row relatively comfortably while in the tahoe/suburban, they’d be bumping knees or crossing legs.
I would suggest getting a luggage rack that goes into your tow receiver hitch. I had an older Durango and loved that thing, the rear compartment is small but once we got one of those and a waterproof luggage bag, the world was great. The Durango had issues, but the things that are positive outweighs the negatives. We had a family of 5.
Good Year Fortera HL are actually very good tires. I had these on my Pacifica, Chrysler Aspen, and now Durango. They handle great in both snow and rain. I guess it's a matter of opinion, or how we drive "in the rain". Regarding the "Beats by Dre", you should of demanded the system to be installed in that vehicle. My center piece doesn't do that, so I believe it's that vehicle. Center bench seat, how did you not figure that before you purchased it? For long trips, get a car top carrier if you are going to lift the 3rd row. Again, something fairly easy to decipher when you purchased the vehicle.
Well luckily for you, even though you didn't get your beats system, for 2019, they offer the Harman kardon sound system for the rt and the srt
damn whiney dude, I love mine, it doesn't crackle and you knew what u were buying, you ate it but bought it anyway. ARE U CRAZY? Who spends that kind of money on something they hate? I love my Durango and will never have anything else
I love my R/T... tires are diff on mine, Michelin tires that never loose grip! My radio is booming and lucky for me, the beats logo is missing... not a fan. Interior, I have noticed a squeak starting in door handle when I close it but that’s it... silent a smooth at 50k n 2yr in. It’s the only ride that size, good mpg, v8 ride with such amazing power, style & room. The transmission is one of the best automatics made, round in top brand cars around the world! The only way to get the luggage room you want is massive big gas sucking SUV... that’s cool if your into double the gas bill. Kia is about to release a new suv that will prob be only comparison... but... it’s a Kia... and a v6. Lol not a R/T! I wasn’t a “ dodge fan” until I got this Durango.... it’s a amazing! Your ride is beautiful... thanks for post.

Love my 15 R/T. Not one bad thing to say about it IMO. 1 . Great v8 2. Tows up to 7200 lbs 3 seating for 7. 4. Ucconnect is easy to navigate 5. Looks badass. 6. Sounds badass 7. Rwd thrill ( if you choose rwd) 8. Presence .
What’s the gas mileage like
Gas mileage is very good bc of cylinder deactivation and the 8spd zf trans. I’ve had a 14’ and now a 16’ both RT’s w the 5.7 and I can get 26mpg on long trips. My average hovers around 18-19mpg mixed driving.
The economy mode causes a harmonic vibration that wears out your timing chain and tensioner .. also do you really think AWD and 4wd. Drive differently than 2WD?

I'm a mom with three kids. Your just about in minivan or suburban territory. Both of which are expensive. I bet the formula/milk stains looks awesome on that red interior. Lol. Enjoy those kiddos they grow up fast!!!

I have a citadel edition with hemi and imo this is a comfortable ride. Seems you really dont have issue that cant be fixed. Kids will grow, upgrade audio system at maybe a cheaper price than dealer, cargo space-i went with a cargo basket, get custom wheels and tires of ur liking, and just at a seal under the chrome bezel
Iv got 4 kids and my wife and I also have a Durango Rt,,its a first gen but has less room than the newer ones and we have no problem going on trips,, it is a little tight but we take it over our van any day, mostly because it can pull the boat and our van cant as it weighs a little over 5k..

yea captain chairs is a must in a durango. Both my boys like sitting in the back now so the middle two seats in my durango are usually folded down. the chrome trim i agree with but come on....its a dodge.
have a 2017 white GT blacktop (wish I would have gotten the RT!). I noticed the chrome issue as well only my issue was the chrome around the speedometer vs around the nav area. the other thing I don't like about the white colour is how they wrap it on the wheel well (didn't notice it until weeks after I bought it). blends in with the inner wheel well when you have a darker colour, but I feel they could have been a little less lazy with it as it looks sloppy with lighter colours :). I also like your rims better than the 2017 blacktop rims, thinking of swapping them out on mine.

Looking at this model durango. Im 6'1 and in my jeep gc i have the seet all the way back and cannot fit my britax rear facing car seat. Ill have two rear facing car seats so, will this be too tight? Any dads have input?
Kind if funny, when my twins (identical b/b) were born I was looking for an SUV. Ended up getting a 2nd gen Durango because of the trunk space and middle seat. So many people argued with me to get the newer Durango too.
I own a 16 Durango Limited. The thing I dislike about it the most is the blind spots with the C and D pillars on passenger side. I should have order blind spot detection.

The 2nd row seats on my 17 GMC Acadia slide forward and tilt upward to access the 3rd row seats. I don't even have to take my car seats out.....maybe check those out next
I’m annoyed with mine too 28000 later. I needed a engine 3 yrs later. That was 7000
We have a durango, and have diono radian rxt car seats 3 across, researched before purchase. Also, with back seats up, yes cuts down on space, but compared to what? A suburban?
Yeah the Yukon XL was a better fit for us that's what we ended up getting after the Durango but the Durango was an awesome car just we needed a little extra space
R/T is the image car. 14000 miles is enough to experience the punishment. The Citadel is looks more civilized and you can have the V-8 in it as well with tires that actually work for the road
Wow the chrome around the center dash doesn't do that on my 14 R/T. I leave my rear seats down full time to get the storage required....definitely can't fit shit back there with the seats up.
MY biggest pet peeve is the fact that when using the paddle shifts the vehicle will sometimes downshift when pulling on the gear up paddle.....HAAAAATE that...nothing more embarrassing when your heavy on the throttle and you redline the engine because it downshifts on you.....

This was extremely helpful as I am expecting another set of twins and we also have Britax carseats so we were leaning towards a Durango but I think I will go with a Tahoe or something with 7-9 passenger capacity. just saved me alot of grief👍

With anything you buy there will be a trade off. I too have the same durango R/T white black top awd. only difference is I got black leather interior and I did opt for the bucket rear seats. I also have twins (9months) and one 3 year old. my only gripe is the lack of room between the rear facing infants seats and the front passenger seats. I'm 6'2 and I must drive too close to the wheel for comfort. hoping this foes away when they make it to a coward facing convertible seat. All and all, its a great suv. its mean, and looks bad coming at you.when have taken it from N.C. to D.C. using a hitch cargo carrier with weather proof bag. Only thing behind third row was the twins stroller. once we got to D.C. everything went into the hotel and the carrier folds up towards the rear of the sub for daily use. Nothing else out there quite like it. Has more hp than a suburban and weighs less. I would love to put a rip supercharger on it if money were no option for fear of voiding the warranty. The ford explorer is too small and girlie.

My Gen 1 Durango is a truck. :) Granted the new ones are more of a crossover since they are unibody. I always LOL when I see people call huge SUVs cars. Charger= car. Challenger= great car. BTW, I like everything about your truck except for the red interior. The white paint w/ black wheels & trim is sharp.

most of the car you can put 2 baby seat side by side its not just the durango problem, for the thrid row its alway the same not big cargo space left BUT you have place for you leg and you dont have youre knees sqeezed
Just get the carrier storage thing that hooks into the hitch...instantly a crap ton of room for luggage.
he does know that the bottom part opens to put stuff in and he can put it on top when it's closed
It's kind of thr compromise. We want the third row SUV without going the slow soccer mom van route. In this case with a car like the Durango, we get sporty but not full size trunk space. I am sure you got the R/T because you wanted that trade off. Me too. I got the Citadel V8 to enjoy driving, but still the sedan upgrade to 3rd row SUV.
Just add a cargo carrier on the roof or with the trailer hitch on trips...no big deal. Then you aren't stuck driving a massive SUV just to get a bit of luggage space for trips.

I am looking at replacing my wife's 2013 Grand Cherokee Overland with a 2017 Dodge Durango R/T.
My question for you is regarding the Durango's AWD and how it performs in the snow and in winter weather on inclines and declines?
Of course, the Grand Cherokee kicks ass in all conditions so I think that might be the biggest negative moving from a GC to a Durango.

the grand Cherokee and Durango share the same drivetrain and platform. i would imagine they handle bad weather similarly. of course the jeep would have better approach and departure angels. but your not going to be doing that anyway.
it was pretty good the only traction issue i had was sliding through intersections in wet weather

HealthJeeps &Guns it’s been a while since we had it but it wasn’t bad on fuel I’d say average close to 20 mpg plus I’m a lead foot

I have the Durango RT but 2019 model. I have the Mopar upgraded edition with some custom mods here. I love it to drive around it's sporty it's loud it's powerful, but as a family vehicle it sucks. I've actually been talking to my husband about trading it in for the dreaded Escalade. 😭

My dad has a 2016 Durango R/T In charcoal grey (gray for me cuz I'm Canadian ) and the blacktop package AWD and the chrome around the screen on the dash isn't crackly like that also I doesn't have the screens in the back :/

We love our 2017 Durango. I'd buy another one if something happened to this one. In fact, we're thinking of getting a new SRT Durango in Destroyer Gray. Only because after we ordered our white R/T Blacktop, everybody seemed copy us. Now there are white, Blacktop Durango's all over the place. LoL! And who doesn't want the 392 Hemi?
The only thing I "hate" about it is the shift knob. Give me the old fashioned lever.

Hows the gas mileage?
I got two car seats too man, and I planned the car for this and luggage. Tip for space: either pack less, or get a cargo box/hitch tow. The Durango is as long as a mini-van, so the space you have here, you'll more or less get it in a van. Second, if you wanted a lot of space inside, then you should've gone with a Sprinter van and toss your balls out the window while at it. The basic auto-system that comes with it is good, BOSE or BEATS are for show-offs (clearly we know in which category you fall). The red trim?? Really? Black with red stiching is far better and less "show-offy". The only thing that you were on par with was the chrome moulding making noise. That's all. The rest, you're completely off. Btw, I test drove the 2018 RT for 2 weeks, and decided on the 2017 GT instead...for gas consumption reasons. And I can tell you that I'm just as happy. PS: Previous daily was a BMW X5 4.8i (V8) with the sport package. I like the GT more.
Just buy a used school bus plenty room in those for 7.BTW Mine does not have that crackle on the dach, not a sound from it.In the last two years I have pulled my trailer fron Ohio to Oregon down to San Fran and back this year I towed my trailer to Montana and back and also just came back from James Town VA aLL WITH THE 3.6 ENGINE.

huh, I love my R/T nothing, NOTHING wrong with it. Most of you complaints are subjective and must have not been that important to you when you bought it.
i also have a durango rt 2015 all black .... i don't have that clickery noise on the center
There are only several 3-row SUVs with more cargo space than that. Suburban, Yukon XL, long Escalade. If you need 6 seats AND cargo space, you should have got one of those.
And I did
The expedition EL also. I own a durango srt and we have a expedition el and it is huge in comparison to the durango.

If I owned this car I would be so excited to get behind the wheel every time I drove it. I would focus on all the awesome things this beast of a machine offers, starting with the 5.7 liter HEMI V8 that puts out huge horsepower and torque for this class. The styling is bad ass and screams drive me fast. This SUV handles great too. FYI: Maybe next time YOU buy a car, maybe re-think your needs a little better up front. You made lots of mental mistakes, but your young so we forgive you. You made one mention of a real problem with the car. Your video is weighted to your needs and not specific issues with the car itself. Just be happy your lucky enough to own this beauty. It doesn't have My beats audio system????
The 5 things I hate about this guy. But the the #1 is the fact that he didn’t notice these things while test driving it or inspecting it.

Usually when people do these types of videos they talk about things that are actually wrong with the vehicle and not issues resulting from extenuating circumstances or poor decision making on the part of the owner

Good lord! Chrysler is still putting cheap plastics in the interior that crackle. Why aren't they fixing this problem. These vehicles are too expensive for this. Just about everything in my 2013 300 crackles from the armrest, the the fake plastic chrome around the speedometer and tachometer, but worst of all is the dual pane sunroof panel.
