Your hatch spar (the spar that you will attach the hatch hinge to) is how far from the bottom of your galley? 48" since it's the width of the luan?

i have for many years just used 2x3 and simply drill with screws then use a 90 degree bracket with a few more...these days i use kinda finger joints and grant always told me two do it this way back when lilbear was running, he is an amazing person him and his wife ,,,,but working outside was always hit or miss with weather.. but what you do is take a 1 1/2 " thick probley 3" wide and make 45 degree cut on the beam and in the wall you do a 45 degree the other way that way they slide together.. and can be glued and stapled..

Great videos! I was watching lots of build videos last year and its nice to see more in-depth tutorials! I might have missed it, but what type of wood did you use for the glued together 1x2 spars?

Thanks Toast... The 1x2s are pine. I got the select grade, no knots and nice and straight.

@@RinconSteve awesome thanks! I saw others that said to use 2x2 but the ones around me are weak, warped and joined every 2 feet. Your way seems like the better option!
