thank you for the video i have now subscribed, I bought the Sound blaster X4 today and was feeling disappointed as it did not sound as good as the SteelSeries Artics Nova pro that i have been using but after watching this video and seeing how to set it up properly and tweaking the EQ to my liking for COD i am blown away with how good this SB X4 is

Hi, do you use your ae9 sound card optical out into the x4 dac? What cable connection do you use from you pc or is it your onboard sound from motherboard. I would of thought the sound be clearer via optical from you ae9 card. Thanks

Thank you for the video! Extremely informative. I have the G6, but you are making me want the x4. It's weird how Creative made a cheaper device superior. Do you think it's possible to achieve similar results with the G6?
Also, I mainly play Crytek's Hunt: Showdown. If you have it, the community (and me!) would LOVE seeing you do a video like this for Hunt.

    • @TheWhaleENG

      Using a g6 also
EQ off, SBX on - Sorround on but on 0 - crystalizer on and 100 --- rest set to zero and off -- decoder on "night" or off -- so no soround effect -- hardware gain on low on the soundcard --using a HD660S and testing with Planar headsets right now.

I wouldn't high pass any higher than 60hz because there is info down there that's useful. I'd roll off a lot of the low end starting at 200hz, making a few db dip at 200-500hz is usually a good idea that works well because that's where the mud is, a lot of sounds occupy that same frequency and it's usually where the lack of clarity comes from. Any boosts or cuts are very dependent on your specific headphones because they all have a different frequency response. The best thing to do is hop into the range and stand beside a dummy while it's moving and go into your settings and turn off "audio focus" so the game plays audio when tabbed out of the game and EQ yourself. You can look at others EQ settings to see what frequencies they're boosting and cutting to get an idea where the foot step audio is located in the audio spectrum. But boost and cut for your own personal set up.

    • @bergdk237
      @bergdk237 หลายเดือนก่อน

Got the G6 myself. I have researched and trying out many many configurations. I just tested these settings, and for my IEM'S this is way to loud😅I have watched a lot of video's and read many reddit post about recommended settings, and programs ect. for optimal competitive fps settings, both with g6 and without.
I prefer some level of surround effect/ soundstage that opens up, veil still being able to pick up the more subtle and important sounds like enemy footsteps!
I'm currently testing out my own tweaked version. Windows set to 5.1. Soundblaster set to headphones 5.1. SBX on, using the preset Apex Legends, and a custom EQ to dampen the bass, since my IEM'S has quite a beefy bass, imo.

  • @fratozsarkams4043

I believe enabling surround on acoustic engine really helps with vertical audio because it amplifies the reverbs. For example, if someone opens a door in downstairs in apex legends, it is easier to understand when surround is enabled (to like %50).
The stereo is very bad on this game because their audio engine is not good at all. So, when you use stereo their 20 years old engine makes the job to convert directional audio to speakers. With virtual 7.1 output at least the margin of error of the engine is reduced to acceptable level.

    • @itsprod.472
      @itsprod.472 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

Yup with all the products by Creative I usually only use their EQ and Acoustic Engine settings. I don’t use that SXFI thing because they made it a whole separate thing lol.

I am a longtime fan of SBX effects, especially on the SoundBlaster Z PCIe card. That card has, still to this day, the most impressive SBX Surround & Crystalizer effects by far: Virtual Surround (5.1 -> Headphone) sounds absolutely awesome. Crystallizer enhances subtile features in games giving you "audio wallhack" and simultaneously does not compromise the overall sound experience on headphonse (especially the midtones and bass). You can still listen to music with theses effects and they sound awesome! (Beyerdynamik DT990 Pro headphones here)
Since I moved to 95% Linux as a daily driver, having decent sound quality was important for me. Especially in gaming.
While the SBZ card has a pretty decent reverse-engineered driver, I saw drawbacks in quality of the virtual surround via SBX Surround. So I gave USB DACs a changce, since they basically can and will work "driverless" and store their config, once it has been set on the device. Boy, what was I disappointed.
    - SoundBlaster X4:
    - This card fully exposes itself as (up to) 7.1 channel device, no matter what OS (Windows, Linux, Mac) and should behave similarily on consoles too!
    - But the card has crappy SBX effects. The quality is not even close to the SBZ card (on Windows): The mids and bass sound dull. Possibly because the SBX effects are generated via so called APOs: Audio Processing Objects, that run on the OS in software and not on the card in hardware. So the X4 has no chance to use the SBX effects on Linux or consoles, which was my intention in the first place.
    - Super XFI also is a joke compared to SBX Surround - Especially compared to SBX Surround on the SBZ card! Like day and night!
    - Furthermore, the X4 seems to have trouble driving my 250 Ohms DT990 Pro Headphones even in High Impedance and Direct Audio mode, enabled via the driver.
    - SoundBlasterX G6
    - This card can properly drive my DT990 Pro Headphones. Direct audio sounds great now!
    - Further more, SBX seems to be (finally!) processed on the hardware and with (almost!) the quality as of my SBZ PCIe card. Some midtones and a bit of bass is off. That is almost acceptable and can be cpossibly compensated for via an Equalizer.
    - However, on Linux (and I guess, also on Mac and all consoles), the card only appears as a stereo device (D'oh). Virtual surround therefore does not work now, even though SBX finally works platform independent :(
    - But to the rescue: You can feed in a DTS/AC3 5.1 signal (maybe also 7.1?) via SPDIF (optical TOS-Link). Now that card will do proper 5.1 -> Headphone virtual surround with added SBX effects on top: EXACTLY what I wanted.1
--> Right now, my setup look like this: SB X4 (5.1) --(SPDIF)--> SBX G6(SBX Effects) --> Headphones: This now is truely platform independent and works with 5.1 Virtual Surround + SBX Effects... But quite an expensive hardware setup (250-300 €).
However (getting back to the topic of this video): Assuming, you are just using Windows and the SBX Crystallizer: That thing exists on your (old) G6 card as well as on your X4. I don't see, why you praise this especially on the X4.

I got a new X4 but I can’t set the headphones to any virtual surround setting.
It just reverts back to stereo when I try to pick a virtual surround option.
At 14:33 you show setting virtual surround but it doesn’t work for me. I only ever see two speakers instead of the surround speakers shown on your screen.
I’ve contacted Creative tech support but of course it will take days to hear anything back. And I get no response at all from their live chat support.

32bit / 320kHz i got right now on super expensive ITX AM5 board... and in past I got much better cards 24bit/192kHz. That is tricky thing but as You say, most important is real time experience. I thinked a while about X5 as it got better DAC for pure audio.. but also like sometimes play movies... X4 get better price on official creative website, much cheaper then shops, amazon etc.. so I will give a try because will not lost money. And as You say there is wide range of devices where could use it. Hope it will be also good for audio not only gaming fancy device. I am moving soon on MAC so will say goodbyt to my Xonad D2X soon. I don't understand the whole dolby digital live/optical cable relationship. I try to use the SPDIF input, but if I turn on dolby digital live I can't hear anything. Idt my optical cable is plugged in correctly or something. The one that came with the X4 has 1 side optical and the other side is like a 3.5mm. I put it in the line in and line out, no difference. I unplug the cable all together and sound doesn't even stop playing while I have the SPDIF input enabled. If any1 can help I'd love you forever. Cuz this is quite annoying.

I do not game. I bought the sxfi x4. I was trying to use it through a sony virtual 7.1 dbx headphone app - the older one. I could not get my pc to recognize the x4. It had been working now it stopped. A realized my usb 3.0a port had some sort of stupid issue with it. So once I switched the port, oh now my system could see the x4. I outputted a toslink cable to the sony and had to select 'spdif out sound blaster x4' and everything was working. I do not know why outputting your sound on your pc, is so blasted confusing, and you loose your drivers, can't see your devices, have to reboot, try to find the drivers, again and again and again. It all should be so easy - plug and play. I run all sorts of 'fix your pc' so my system should be in good shape. My laptop is not that ancient and I sort of know what I'm doing on a pc. ha ha ha ........not like I'm a newbe......Oh the sound is nice and clear, even using old old headphones...........like 1960's headphones, but it sounds nice to my old ears.......

Also have the Sennheiser PC38X, HD58X, Fidelio X2HR, M40X, final VR3000 and by far the moondrop Kato soundstage and imaging feels on another level in comparison to those. Although I have a custom set -6db on 32hz, -3db on 64hz, 5db on 125hz, -1.5 on 250hz and so on that also helps.

Stereo will always be more accurate to source for imaging than virtual surround sound (added from a DAC or software) on the same source, as virtual surround sound will always add some level of processing and input lag to the source. You can also access most virtual surround sound through programs alone you dont need to buy a DAC that has it baked in like the soundblaster. No virtualization can fix or change how good or bad the actual imaging is as this is just based on how well the sound is programmed into the game (a DAC isnt going to fix the way the game sends you audio). Youd be better off with a good DAC in the same price point from a non PC gaming company (smsl, shiit, etc) and then using something like Dolby atmos on top if you really like the virtual surround sound feel.

@@Lemonpinesol Do you even know what he did ? .. Do you know what's going on behind the scenes when you set interface as "7.1" but then setting accoustic engine aka surround to "Zero" . Even Sound Blaster team never publicly explained the difference between this and interface as "stereo" .But you can find some explanations on reddit if you are that good. The only thing @TheWhale ENG forgot was to mention Creatives smart compressor "smart volume" which can boosts only low sounds. There is also another technology called Scout-mode which i never liked bcs of its latency. You talked about companies like smsl, shiit etc... Which of these gives you DDL,7.1,audio balance etc etc on PC.. Smart audio people knows that last 10 years on PC its all about audio features and not about brainwashed high res audio dacs.

@@funnypepe all software encoded 7.1 can be done on your PC, you dont need to do it at a hardware level. SMSL and shiit both have anywhere from entry level to enthusiast level equipment(and they were just examples, can use whatever company you like).
