I've recently been looking into Amp and DACs and open back headphones and now this video is just perfect 🌼
The hp surround sound is kind of the whole point for me though hahaha.. I love how sxfi battle mode over optical 5.1 brings out exactly where every little audio cue is coming from in an fps on my ps4, it's the bomb. I also really like game voice mix, when playing with friends, it really helps tuning the chat volume with the knob directly as needed, but it can't always be applied, so it's kind of a 2nd tier feature. Anyways great review!
I was actually thinking about an amp/Dac this had perfect timing. Great video.
I believe that you need an hdmi to optical converter for PS5 if you want the chat mix feature.
This is really really important information for being able to use it correctly. He implies in the video that it does work on console without on PS5, imagine it will be different on PS4.
I have the steelseries wired + Dac. Would acquiring this take gaming to next level. Or am I just best of with Dac?

All my sound blaster external usb have issues with windows and AMD ryzen. I get lots of static and have to keep unplugging/replugging it. Not buying anytime soon.
Would this be needed/ideal to work with my Audeze LCDGX on PS5? I’m not to impressed with the audeze. Is that what’s missing? TIA

Im so late to this video but was curious about something, is it possible to use this device on a pc and ps5 simultaneously and hear both audio in the same headset?
I'm not a massive audio nerd but I use a razer blackshark v2 pro which is wireless is there something like this that you could plug my 2.4usb into it and make it work or am I being stupid

Why would you set it to 192khz?
Not even sound studios use that high resolution and neither the sound files you listen to, nor your headphones or speakers will be able to make use of it.
Question: Can I use this device to play games on pc while being in a PlayStation party chat with my friends. For example: I’m the only person in my friend group who has a pc all of my friends are on ps5 we do not want to use game chat. Will this device somehow allow me to hear game audio from the pc and chat audio from the ps5 in one headset? Thanks for any help!
Why don't you show whether in the Recording panel, apart from the Microphone, there is also (which is very important for many) STEREO MIX.

I know this video is pretty old, and I came here because I saw this on amazon and it says it works on xbox series x. Any idea if is true, does it really work on series x? I'm kinda sick of headsets and I really want headphones
The best for gaming are the Aune, Topping,Burson and SMSL headphone amplifiers. Creative is very expensive and does not sound so good.They have weak amplifiers.
Seems like on Playstation you will get surround only through optical, not USB.
Can this be up use with the goxrl or the wave link 3 ? Also what about connecting artic pro wireless or A50 headset ??

Series x is tough because it doesn’t have optical anymore. If you get the Astro optical adapter you can use the mayflower arc through optical and it sounds really good, but you won’t get mic support on Xbox unfortunately. Otherwise headset is the only way to go that I know of.

A new Astro Mixamp with updated firmware will work. It basically eliminates the need for the optical cable on the Series X/S.

I noticed that the plug for the headphone has the headset symbol not the headphone symbol so can you plug a headset with a TRRS plug in and use its mic?
The missing sidetone was a dealbreaker for me, really annoying notable delay in ot on gc7. X3 beats this easily

So a couple of stupid questions since it is not clear to me... 1) I take it that a selling point of this is that the optical in takes 5.1 for instance from your xbox that is then converted to create a really good headphone signal? 2) can you record the 5.1 optical input, or is it strictly going to the box and straight back out to headphones etc?

Great review. I heard that mod mic has a wireless version that clips to the side of the headset so you aren't dealing with all of the cables. Of course, it needs a USB dongle so it wouldn't work on the Dac.

I think the only reason you don't like the build quality is because you couldn't "twist it up, bend it up or stretch it out". Honestly, the only thing that would have made it better, is if it had a 4 pole jack on the front instead of separate mic and headphone jacks.
But it does! The headphone jack on the front is a 4 pole. You don't need to use the mic input jack at all.
Would you recommend any of these dacs/soundboards over the Steelseries pro dac ?
That's a tough call as I've used the Sound blaster G5 and loved it but the Steelseries dac is great. It has that ESS Sabre chipset which is very well known in the audiophile community. I know that I hear things using it that I haven't with anything else.

i remember having a sonudblaster 2 on my old pentiums, and audigy 2 pro and x-fi on my computers from 2004-2008. even though i use wireless headsets for gaming now and a separate pro-audio soundcard for my listening to music / djing, i dont feel a real need for a pc gaming soundcard anymore, but i will admit, i miss having one..

no, it will only work with a mic plugged into it. I had the same though, but no go :(

Techne have you tried any wired headphones with the $8 Apple 3.5mm to usb c dongle? It's insane how good it sounds. Thought it was just hype until I got one and paired with my dt990 pros (I know you don't like those headphones). It's just so stinkin good, like butter.

I tried the g6 and I couldn’t get it to work with the Xbox. I was able to modify it with my computer but that was it. Having all the cables all over place does suck. Great review!
This sound blaster looks amazing! I like the simplicity of it and I think as a new streamer this a good option over the dxlr! But is there anything similar to this that does change color or beep when I’m in a preset before I buy?

Hey Techne, will it benefit me if i buy an amp? I have B550 strix A mobo and i use the razer Blackshark V2 headet with included soundcard.
I am looking for better hearing footsteps in Fortnite and the best sound possible but i dont know if it well help or if i allready am at the max quality this headset produces.
Would it be better to buy a better headset or a better Amp? i feel like i cant hear footsteps sometimes in Fortnite.
yeah an amp will always bring out more than a basic headset, it's really game changing

You won't get any more out of blacksharks though. Higher end headphones an amp/dac will help. Blacksharks will just maybe be louder with more distortion though.

@@TheTechne Nice - I can see why it is easier to use . I feel like the audiophile stuff is way too difficult for people to understand. That is why I think the audiophile market will always remain a niche unlike the mechanical keyboard market. It would be interesting to see companies let users customize their headphones (different drivers, different cups, different headbands, different cables, etc.)

No it DOES NOT work on PS5 with just USB. Not if you want to use any form of surround sound. It would just be plain stereo. Hence why an HDMI to optical converter is needed.

I guess the optical port is needed for game/chat mix, because otherwise the dac can not differentiate one from the other.
