    You know those vids that are like "OMG IMPROVE YOUR PLAYING IN 5 MINUTES WITH THIS ONE SIMPLE TRICK!"? Well this is that, but actually and not some convoluted rubbish.
    Seriously, as someone who's been at a bit of a roadblock with improv, this was MASSIVE help and literally just made my playing better in 5 minutes. I just went and gave it a shot and it properly felt like it opened up my abilities 10 fold just by being able to see the fretboard in a slightly different way. Absolutely unbelievable.
    Thank you Andy and thank you Jen! ❤️

    It's a little off the topic but I teach guitar and I have students either quit playing or get frustrated seeing others play that are better my students thinking they aren't talented or have this special gift these others supposedly have, I don't believe in talent I've yet to meet someone yet who have never picked up a guitar before to pick one up for the first time who didn't suck nobody has a special gift to play guitar, I remember Steve Vai saying for years he couldn't Alternate pick he thought he would never be able to do that and now he's one of the greatest guitarist on the planet, guitar takes alot of practice and a drive an obsession to be as good as they can be which alot of people don't have practicing 30 mins a day sure you're improve slowly but you need to practice multiple hours a day and practicing right the right things anyone can learn to play guitar and be great but you have to put in the work.

    Soo enjoyable to watch, tahnk you for your effort. Peacefull and funny in same time. Stupid question here, but if a song is using let's say 4 chords, example: D,A,Hmi,G....do you iprovise on each of these scales, or do you pick the dominant scale only and stay iprovising in one? Trying to move in between the D,A,Hmi, G scales, looking for their placement on fingerboard in the tempo of the song is damn tough :) :)

    • @crawltochina
      @crawltochina 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You need to find out the key. For D, G, A and Hm it’s DMajor/HMin (same key). Look for videos about harmonizing the major scale. You then find out which step on the scale has which type of chord (maj/min). By knowing the steps you can find out which key your playing in. Sounds difficult but really isn’t.

    Ok, I understand why she says the index finger is minor, through the minor 7th chord and E minor chord. I always thought the pinky was minor because the minor 3rd is on the E string in a pentatonic scale. Interesting.

  • @idiotburns
    @idiotburns 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    The minor and major in a difference of 3 notes on the root of the pentatonic!

  • @leepshin

    Jen's whole wold came crashing down when she found out Andy didn't know theory. 😁
    SEE! SEE! Theory is NOT compulsory. I learned the old school Beatles way of learning a few chords to get by and then picking the rest up on my musical journey.

    • @TheGuitarGeek
      @TheGuitarGeek  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I wish i had learned more theory and i love learning more but I also came from the beatles way of learning.

    • @leepshin
      @leepshin ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheGuitarGeek Here's an idea for a follow up video then. Has theory overtaken the need to have fun learning how to play music? Some old school pro musicians still haven't learned theory and probably never will but is it now considered the be all and end all of playing music for fun?

    It doesn't just have to be the pentatonic scale, if you move the whole E minor scale down 4 semitones, {to your pointer finger} , it becomes the E major scale. I found this out 40 years ago when I drew a 6 string guitar neck and placed dots for the E major scale on the neck, the patterns were exactly the same as the E Minor scale, just 4 frets apart, been using that ever since...Modes are the same, just different positions of other scales/modes..
