At the end of a week that saw traffic disruption and chaos in Hong Kong, Saturday November 16, 2019, was a day of relative calm. Around Baptist University in Kowloon Tong, crowds came out to help clean the streets. Among them were about 50 Chinese soldiers, who said they “volunteered” to clear the bricks and roads near their barracks. Outside the University of Hong Kong, people came to the street to help remove obstacles which had been blocking Pok Fu Lam Road for days. Sections of Tolo Highway reopened as well, while the Cross-Harbour Tunnel remained closed.

They’re helping you clear up the roadblocks these protesters have left behind. At least express some gratitude... Or would you rather see the entire population stuck in horrible traffic and unable to commute? Some yellow ribbons seem to be blindly condemning any actions carried out by anyone except pro-movement supporters. I don’t see how removing bricks and glass shards from the roads (which can reduce traffic congestion and risks of people getting injured) suppresses democracy/people’s freedoms in HK. That's what rest of world doesn't understand, the bulk of the support for protests particularly the radical violent separatists lies in under 30 crowd (many families in Hong Kong are fiercely divided). The older crowd had lived through being second class citizens under British rule w/o rights, so needless to say having their dignity back as a part of China while enjoying special rights as SAR is much preferred. By reducing this to Hong Kong/Freedom fighters vs evil China, other stakeholders, and voices in Hong Kong are silenced-often through mob beatings on the street I might add....in the spirit of democracy.

The United States has less than three hundred years of individualism, but this is really not comparable to the collectivist wisdom of the Chinese civilization for more than 3,000 years.
This time the CIA was completely defeated by the mainland government in Hong Kong!
Civilization based on the development of individualism cannot understand the civilization based on the development of collectivism, just as marine animals cannot understand the way of breathing of land animals. Chinese civilization advocates collectivism and may sacrifice some freedom of speech, but we have more freedom, stability, strength and rapid development.
China has risen again and brought new governance models to the world. Both the American model and the Chinese model will be the model that developing countries can refer to.

The PLA troops weren't even wearing any protective gear (looks like they were just out for PT), yet no "protestor" even came close; meanwhile HK police in full riot gear are confronted in CQC by the "protestors" on a regular basis. Hummm,,,,,,,, ;-)

@Dark of the knight REAL Peaceful protest is absolutely fine! But how come those so called peaceful protesters never come out and condemn the violent rioters? Want to know why? Because they are the same freaking group, just different departments lol! Some are push propaganda like there's no tomorrow, some are on the front line destroying the city, some are showing peace to gain simplify! Don't be too naive people!!!

Dark of the knight If they are real peaceful protesters who doesn’t want riot then at least they should condemn those violent ones, otherwise they are either agreeing with those using violence just too coward to do that, or they are too afraid to express their disagreement with them... Take your free pick.
