How very cool that you are educating through error. I've been quilting for many (very many) years and I no longer make "rookie" errors they have evolved to "dunderhead" errors. Lol BTW you are one smart lady.
Pieced backings can be hard. After making a couple of mistakes on cutting backings myself I decided to buy 108 inch backings - so much easier. Loved watching how you fixed the problem. 🙂
I try to think of my mistakes as opportunities for creativity, which seems to help in the long run. But there's nothing that can prevent that sting of disappointment you have when you first realize you've made a mistake. Luckily, I think everything worked out well in the end.
As a rookie, cutting is my arch enemy. Seems like no matter how careful I am, something always shifts on me. I haven't run into your dilemma yet, but I'm sure it's in my future so thank you for this video.
Cutting is still my number one least favorite part of quilting. My skills and tools have improved, but I still dread it sometimes. But it's so worth it in the end when I'm holding a finished quilt!

Ok, now I'm very curious about what a "dunderhead" error would look like. lol
Thank you for your kind words!
Thank you for sharing the full mental and physical processing behind your quilting.
You're very welcome.

I'm sitting here watching videos taking a time out away from my rookie mistake. We grow from these mistakes!!! You did great!

I think it looks better with a pieced panel than it would’ve plain. Much more interesting!
I agree! It gives more interest to the back without taking focus from the front.
Great save. Love it. I will definitely remember this for the future.
Thank you!
Beautiful. Can’t wait for the finished quilt!!
Me too!! I'm so ready to be done! Right now, I'm planning on doing some unconventional hand quilting mixed with some big stitch hand quilting.
