    Very cute little quilt! Is that rotary cutter intended to be held like that, or is that just your way?

    • @ThimbleStorm
      @ThimbleStorm 6 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      No, I don't think the rotary cutter is supposed to be held like that. 😊 I totally see how weird it looks, but I hold it that way for a reason. I'm going to address it in my next video. ❤️

      I think one of the best things about quilting is how much of ourselves we can put into our projects. 10 quilters could be working on the same exact pattern but every single quilt would be different. I love it! I think that's what makes quilting endlessly fascinating for me!❤️

    Unless you scorched your fabric during pressing, washing your fabric could get rid of Best Press stains.

    • @ThimbleStorm
      @ThimbleStorm 5 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I'm pretty sure I didn't scorch it. Do you think a regular wash would do the trick or do I need some kind of special stain remover?

    • @Carol_Sews
      @Carol_Sews 5 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@ThimbleStorm I’d try a regular handwashing with your normal laundry detergent. It’s likely that the Best Press was applied more heavily in some places than others. I called the Mary Ellen company when I first started using Best Press to ask about color changes and washing was their advice to me. They told me that not all companies treat their fabrics with the same number of rinses, etc. after dying, and some fabrics react differently to Best Press.

    After you figure out where your .25” is lay a 6” wooden or plastic school ruler along the line and then put your tape on top of it. If the ruler is flat you can glue a few of them together. This gives you a nice ledge to use as a guide. Great beginner series.

    You’re doing a good job on these lesson videos. A pressing tip: Make sure that when you are pressing your seams, you can’t see your threads of the stitches. That happens when you tug the two pieces of fabric apart too hard, and it’s almost impossible to undo by pressing the seam closed and trying again. I think that mistake is just as common as not fully pressing the seam open.

    • @ThimbleStorm

    As an older quilter, I definitely keep my machine turned on when I clean it or change the needle or thread it because I need the light. I also often wear a battery powered headlamp to add more light in front of the needle, and I have a table Ott lamp turned on behind the machine. I just have to make sure that my foot is not resting on the pedal. Turning a Bernina computerized machine on off and on again is not a simple process because they take a while to boot up. As I’ve lost strength in my arms and shoulders, I have begun to use a couple 2 or 3 pound hand weights on large rulers to help hold them in place as I cut. I’m enjoying your new series.

    Great job! I have been quilting for a long time but I always love to hear what others have to say... you can ALWAYS learn something new! Some of the things I love: Nexcare clear medical tape for the backs of my rulers... works great to add grip and keep them from slipping, Clover seam ripper - nice large handle and super sharp!, Corsage Pins - nice long shaft and often a pretty head and a 1/4 seam allowance foot for my sewing machine - consistency is EVERYTHING. And I agree, I use my rotary blades until the skipping becomes annoying :)
