      Ive tried single ply in all 3 lifts. Bench-shirts is the hardest to master. When I was competing international I was using a friends benchshirt once, I was 75kg, he was 100kg. Same height. Other then that ive only used an EHPHD shirt, added around 20kg to my bench.

    I feel like many people get the impression that just putting on a bench shirt instantly raises your bench max by 100 kg. If you took someone who never benched in a shirt before and just stuffed them in a shirt and had them bench, they would either fail and have to dump the bar on their neck/pelvis. It takes weeks to months of pressing to boards before you could even get a touch. I love this analogy; raw bench is to equipped bench as high jump is to pole vault. Just as you couldn't give a high jumper a pole and have them immediately vaulting, it takes time to get used to a shirt. Yes the shirt is doing much of the work, but needing to re-learn how to brace properly, how to pull the bar down, and the proper bar path takes time. I wish people would learn to respect raw and equipped lifting equally, as is done for high jump and pole vault.

    The only problem I have with "equipped" benchers is when responding to "How much can you bench?" they always respond with what they can when equipped, while not saying that is when equipped, and also then not saying what they can do raw. 99% of the time the person asking the question is assuming that is what they can bench wearing a tee-shirt. They never say what they can bench un-equipped. 99.9% people don't care what you bench wearing the silly-suit. The want to know what you as a regular person going to a gym can bench.

      I don't really care for equipped lifting, but I think it is interesting to fans in the same way that motorsports are to some people. People on motorcycles or racecars aren't using their own speed, but instead they're operating these devices with skill at an elite level to out pace their competition and that can be fascinating to watch. Same thing here.

    Equipped bench shouldn't even be in the category of sports/fitness. It's in the tech field. A man bench pressing more than Eddie Hall and Hafthor can deadlift is proof that it's not about human power.

    • @user-om4fc1lm3b
      @user-om4fc1lm3b 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    For an elite level lifter a bench shirt can add 45kg+ to their bench. Then the slingshot they use adds 15-25% (maddog level 4) (according to Mark Bell who invented it) The more weight you can bench the more it helps. For absolutely top tier he said it's 25% more. So if we take the 355 RAW and add the basic minimum for elite lifters for the shirt thats 45kg more so 355+45=400x0.25=500. Now taking into account skill level bench shirt can be more effective. Without the slingshot and bench shirt your body needs to handle all the controlling and stabilizing for the weight. Stability control makes a massive difference. (If you don't believe me take whatever your max weight is divide that by 4 and put that much weight dangling from a barbell via a chain or something and see for yourself how much the increased movement effects your bench. Equipped benchers at the top are very strong obviously or they wouldn't be there. But it's unrealistic to think they can bench more RAW than the RAW bench press record. I would say that the equipped bench press world record holders RAW bench is probably somewhere between 280-310KG. (Don't take what I'm saying as law or holy writ, I am just voicing my opinion based on what we know about the equipment used and how the body works.)

    As of this post, 4/02/2023, there's an unofficial, but well-credentialed 804 lb raw BP, & an official 1129 suited record, a 325 lb difference, but it's two different men, so it doesn't equate to a 325 lb advantage. It actually indicates a much HIGHER difference; it's unlikely that the suited record-holder can press even 700 raw. Granted the skills are different, but proper rehearsal raw is considered in my estimate. nonetheless, let's give him the 700; thus a 429 lb suit advantage; well over 50%. If you didn't put at least 300 lbs on the bar, the spotters probably wouldn't be able to force it down to the lifters chest, & if less than 400, it'd pop back up on it's own. What nonsense.

    There isn't a equipped lifter on the planet for bench press that can come close to the raw record. Period. The bench shirts can give 5-6 hundred pounds of assistance. An anyone that thinks they can't is simply wrong. I wore a single ply shirt from 2005 an i personally got 100-150 lbs out if it an i am not a good bencher to begin with. Back then the best shirts with the best pressers of the time were giving them 350-400+ lbs of assistance for some an others maybe 250-300 lbs. Either way simply put the shirts got better. Thats it.
