    I still can't believe the absolute dominance by Jesus Olivares. He totaled 1,152.5kg Raw while only 24 years old. I'm also super impressed with Mahailya Reeves who did the heaviest raw bench in the IPF at only 18 years old. Seeing records in this video done by Juniors or those born a Gen Z tells us how strong powerlifters are gonna get in the coming years, especially Jesus. Awesome compilation. I'm glad you showed Bonica Brown's 289 kilogram squat.

      @@dosenbrotimtetrapac no one says it's easier, technically it's a much harder lift to learn, but it absolutely gives an advantage over conventional for basically anyone except SHWs. Nearly every record is sumo, and often those that aren't are superceded by heavier sumo pulls in lighter weight classes
      There's a reason only two guys have pulled 500+ conventional, and they were both around 200kg bodyweight and used suits, while I think by now 3 or 4 sumo pullers have hit 500+, one without even using a belt, all around 100-110kg bodyweight

      Not always….there are plenty of lifters, usually those with short torsos and relatively long arms, who can deadlift more than those using the sumo style. If I’m not mistaken many of the deadlift records were done in conventional style.

      @@brianrihlmann6054 the vast majority of records are done sumo, and in some classes where the record was set with a conventional deadlift, they are superceded by a sumo record in a lighter weight class

      @@powerlifting-world work done is force*distance, more rom means more work required, so yes, it is relevant
      Also, if the way force is applied maximally was the same across the entire lift, and people can sustain it for ~30s, anyone who could break the floor should be able to finish the lift, yet we constantly see people failing deadlifts after breaking the floor (also bench and squat halfway to lockout)

    I just don't understand how Sumo deadlift can be taken seriously. The range of motion with legs spread is only minimal so it's mainly pulling with back and shoulders. When deadlifts are performed with legs in the traditional stance, the thighs are almost parallel to the ground like a squat. Far more work for the legs and pound for pound the lift is much more challenging.

    • @powerlifting-world
      @powerlifting-world  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Except in a sumo stance the legs are far more parallel to the ground than a conventional one and the work is done mostly by the leg muscles.
      Check out the video of Jeff Nippard, it is very well done and explains the differences between sumo and conventional.
