      The transfer of power is immediate. At 03:00am Starmer became Prime Minister. The Civil service all studied the Manifestos and are ready to greet the new team. Even all of Sunaks belongings and furniture is packed days before so Starmer can take up residence immediately.

    Its only Americans who say things like, Rishi Cannot be a PM for Christian country, bulabulabula, if that was a problematic, he wont be a PM in the first place. he would have to drop his candidacy for Tory leadership. UK is technically a CoE country, however ones religion in politic does not matter as long as the politician does not bring onto it, and system is remarkably religion free since 1950s. because God may be in everyone's heart, but politic is agenda's of human beings not God.

    The 34% that Labour got is really misleading, in my opinion. The two main left-of-centre parties got 34% and 14% respectively, but there was a concerted effort to coordinate the vote, so we could look at the two parties together as an informal voting block with 48% of the electorate.

    2:45 "... the people who will be shaping policy coming here and _getting their marching orders_ from the new Prime Minister..." Either the Labour government is beginning in unprecedented chaos or the reporter is using this idiom very differently to that standard in British English (viz 'to get marching orders' = 'to be sacked'). I wonder whether his usage is common in US English.

He's a massive moderate and main priority is to restore calm. Mentioning the B word here isn't the best idea at the moment. Rejoining is probably not really viable but fostering good will and good relations will count for a lot. It will reassure markets and enable more borrowing. Hopefully borrowing money can be used to regrow the middle class in the UK which will stimulate the economy and shift the GDP/debt balance.
      Think we probably have to accept that Brexit is something we now have to live with, thanks to incompetent Tories.

    • @AmberJays
      @AmberJays 10 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      There is a small minority on either side of that issue who want different things; one side wants it reversed, the other wants it enforced further.
      However, the vast majority of people in the centre ground do not want that topic opened up again, because it paralysed debate in our parliament for years and caused such a backlog of domestic governance issues which we're now seeing the after-effects today (trouble with healthcare, social care, education, policing, law and order, etc).
      So the issue is now regarded as something of a red herring, and to be quite honest if any politician tries to open that pandoras box, I suspect the public will punish them by stripping away voter support for them in the next election (which is usually how discontent is made clear here).
      Historically we have generally been very efficient with our national spending (which permitted us to access good quality at relatively low cost), but ever since the financial crash in 07/08, I would say that the eye has been taken off the ball in that department and we've been throwing a lot of money everywhere with much of it being wasted unnecessarily; so it all needs correcting and tidied up once again.

      @@joefur1625Technically it’s a Christian Country. The head of state is the head of the church. There are bishops in the House of Lords. There is a law that states that all have freedom of religion.
