Totally agree with your conclusion. If they just made a banging entry level headset then I’d be all over that to replace my Quest 2. Probably still hold out for a Quest 3.
Cool concept. The modularity of this device is the direction I’d hoped Nintendo would take advantage with the design of the Switch. The VR controller attachments to the “Joycons” is something even I put to paper as a way to fire up my imagination of what Nintendo could do someday. Yet even now, we keep getting a bunch of rougelikes and farm sim and boring looking indies. I love my switch for sure, but can’t help but feel frustrated at the lack of creativity for the Switch’s unique features and potential.
Pimax frontier basically scared me from buying the Crystal. They should've focused on making the Crystal a really good wireless PCVR headset for the next year as I think that they are starting to realize that the 12k was just overly ambitious (btw we probably won't see that headset for another year if we ever see it). What do they do instead? They tackle on an even more ambitious project with a kickstarter. Smells like bankruptcy to me. Btw I can finally enjoy ACC at around 80 fps with a mix of high and ultra settings on my Quest 2 with my 4090. It's not always consistent from track to track and it's not AMS2 level graphics but It's good enough so I can enjoy that Career mode that is missing from AMS2.
It was definitely a surprise. I definitely think your right about the 12k being a long way off. It’s weird to talk about it so much though. Would stop some people from buying in as they would worry about missing out on the next one. Awesome news on ACC though.
He'll yer I'll try it out, some people are missing the point on what a device like this is truly capable of, most of the top vr and console games are available on steam, and it seems to be open source sideloading compatible, on a device like this over time you would be able to do things that it may not originally have been intended for, just like what people learned how to do with mobile devices expecially android devices and it fits anybodies preferred gaming and entertainment style needs from console to the old we fit stuff to vr and handheld, it is exactly things like this that will push the boundaries of what is possible, in time you way even be able to do things like this from a mobile device, I can see companies like Samsung implementing a similar design for the future high end flag ship devices if there's enough demand for such things, and now that things have significantly improved from days of old with cloud gaming who wouldn't want a device that can do everything anytime anyplace anywhere at home or on the go to suite everybody's life style needs in the tec industry.
A jack of all trades...is a master of none...but often is BETTER than a master of One...Stop sleeping on Android. Steam deck cannot even compete with a Quest2, the Portal is obviously something beyond yalls comprehension🤦🏿♂️🤷🏿♂️🤫😏😁😆😅🤣😂🧘🏿♂️..
Keep in mind most of not all vr's run on android, and there are a lot of tweaks you can do with an android device, from modding to sildloading, it doesn't look like it's xr compatible however it can be added with future software updates using the tracking cameras just like Facebook did with the quest, this device has a lot of possibilities, it's an example of people doing what they do best, taking what others say can not be done and then doing it, I remember when I was a kid, my dad got a Windows xp widows 2000 pc with video chat, the best at my school was Windows 98 and 99, back then most phones couldn't even take a picture, I remember saying to my friends one day your be able to do all that from a mobile phone, something you carry in your pocket, they was like that's impossible, "what you gonna do" "carry a computer everywhere you go" "when that day comes you won't have too"
@@gliderchucker9644 Yea, but Android has already been around, and has alot of dev support compared to Steam OS...android already has apps just waiting for a VR UI...
Is this the device to bring next gen VR to the masses?
AhH Nope its another pie in the sky device from Pimax
It's another way of bringing the kids in, and provided there's grandparents out there with money to buy it then someone is going to sell it to them.
I hope they actually deliver on the portal. This is a very interesting device. I'd be down to review and abuse and mod it up for sure XD

How does this compare to the razer edge and is it better than the razer edge?

Completely agree people keep saying it should've been a windows handheld when steam deck can't even run vr 🙄
I'm still nervous that by trying to appeal to everyone they will appeal to no one
@@mikhaiwilson9224 Steam deck actually runs SteamOS, which is based on Arch Linux. This is important, as Android is also based on Linux.
