    I’m happy to hear that you will build buildings to store your equipment. The elements are hard on machinery You can tell when the machinery is being taken care of. My grandfather kept his washed and waxed so that when winter came he stored them. I remember him changing the oil replacing belts greasing everything. He built roads for a living.

    I like what you are doing. Maybe late to relay ideas, but take this for what it is worth.
    I'm a retired forester from western Oregon, where it is REALLY wet. Here, in the woods, on pretty flat ground like yours, the idea is to avoid construction of even the slightest "trough" in the road cross section. I understand any desire to keep your road clearing limits narrow, but on flat ground you need to clear organics wide enough to shape an area to accommodate a subgrade that from center has: half the surface width + ~5' out sloped shoulder ± a ~5- "V" ditch free from trees. Your organics-free cross section should be shaped like a flattened W with the point in the middle stretched way out. If you have a 12' rock surface, total shaped subgrade width is about 32'. If you work an area narrower than that you WILL wind up with a trough. Only where rock is unlimited /plentiful /affordable is a trough usable and maintainable. The other aspect of the clearing limit importance (add another ~5' to clear any trees) is "daylighting" the road. A tight road squeezing through the trees may look scenic, but will always be in the shade and will stay wet, won't dry out much or quickly between rainy spells. You've got the land, I'd advise wider than narrower.
    God bless you and your efforts.

      @Bushguyrocks 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      This guy knows exactly what he is talking about. Very good advice. I was about to say the same thing in slightly different words. They key is to not have a shaded road no matter how pretty it is. Listen to the man. He is giving you the best advice possible, period. You should send him a note and thank him.

    that's funny... the string holder... I do the same thing but I modified one of my old small wire spools ,,, I have about 6 of them now for all kinds of strings and light wires, they work great and super fast ,,,, save one of your wire spools and try that ,, they work a lot better,,, you get no professional back lash with them ,,, hahahahah ... also thought of using a drive sprocket off of a bike,, that way it will free spool when you want to pull some string off

    MATT, I JUST HAD AN IDEA THAT WILL HELP YOU BACKING UP WITH YOUR DOZER, GET SOME WEST COAST MIRROR AND ATTACH THEM TO THE LEFT AND RIGHT POST TO HELP YOU TO SEE WHATS BEHIND YOU EASILY, AND TO SEE WHAT HAS COME BEHIND UNEXPECTEDLY TO AVOID HITTING SOMEONES VEHICLE BEHIND YOU THAT YOU DIDN'T SEE, RUBBER NECKING ALL THE TIME CAM BE A HUGE PAIN IN THE NECK IF YOU DO IT A LOT!

    Hi. When you flew the drone down your driveway, it looked like it was not as straight as you were hoping, as I am sure you noticed as you graded around the small shed. I know you have heaps of time to get the drive to the desired straightness so good luck with the overall project.

      Find a construction company to work at start at a labor position and let the boss know your goal of operating equipment most will teach you starting in places that don't need to be perfect and if you pick it up good you'll get a spot when one opens because it's easier for them to find a laborer to replace you than an operator to replace the guy you took over for

  • @Ashjuk
    @Ashjuk 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Have you ever wondered why there was the soft spot that you had to excavate? It might have been a idea to put a small culvert pipe in the bottom before backfilling. Just a thought.

    • @DieselCreek
      @DieselCreek  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That land is all pretty flat, when that small area got cleared a few years ago that soft spot developed out of a stump hole that was holding water, it was my fault for leaving it for so long without regrading.
