I didn't know that. I'm sorry to learn it. My mother took me to see South Pacific in about 1958 in George Street Sydney and I have not been the same since then. I was seven. It blew my little mind. I still love it. I ended up as a professional pilot flying in Papua New Guinea and married a brown girl and we have a wonderful son :-) Movies can have big effects.
As sad as it is that practically all the greats from those days are gone, we are so lucky to have all their films to watch again and enjoy the immense talent they had. RIP Mitzi 😘
l've lived on Kauai for five years ,and spend times on this beach often 2000-2005 and always sing this song of miss Mizzy Gayner RIP. miss Gayner , Thanks for the memories
If your talking about the lady in the orange / red shorts I totally agree! Hedley Lamarr: Land-snatching! [grabs a law book] Land, land... "Land: see Snatch."
Years ago I read a New York Times comment in the TV section that said "don't expect magic." Nonsense. There's magic in the movie especially with Mitzi. So sad she passed away.
💗 Oh, to be living in New York City or London in the 1950s and keeping up with the musical theater !! Tickets went for as little as $2 or $3 with top prices less that $10. The top price for "My Fair Lady" when it opened in 1956 was $7.50, soon to be raised to $8.05. That price was retained for its seven-year run. The top price for "Gypsy" (1959) was $9.20. The top price for "Chicago" (1975) was $12. I was born decades too late.
This came into my head this morning and I haven't heard it in at least fifty years... that's crazy....she said don't be dramatic about it... happens all the time lololol
I believe I read in one of Joshua Logan's autobiographies that he didn't think that this song would work on screen in its entirety. But, though this number is much shorter than it is on stage, it's still extremely effective for what it needs to do to tell the story.

I agree, but I'm glad that she came to see what was truly important, and even before she knew if he had survived or not, she was taking care of his children as if she were their mother... She was "Carefully Taught", but she unlearned such foolishness, and came to understand what TRULY matters. :)
I’ve heard that Doris Day and Elizabeth Taylor also were candidates for the film but no one, I mean NO ONE, comes close to MARY MARTIN in the songs. Get the Broadway Cast Recording and enjoy. And, enjoy the glorious EZIO PINZA!!
I don’t know what “eed” is supposed to mean, but I’d take Mitzi Gaynor over Doris Day, any time. I’ve never liked DD’s acting, and I only liked her singing early, when she sang with big bands.
So much about modern life is better, but it's almost all technological. So much of it is worse, too. Clearly worse. I look at this and think "the culture was better".
It’s difficult being a guy who wants love when 90% of his peers want sex with strangers…..and when they think the only women they can love has the plastic assets of a Playboy bunny.
Mitzi Gaynor, RIP (September 4, 1931 - October 17, 2024). Goodbye to one of the last remaining actresses from the Golden Era of Hollywood. 😢
She really was wasn't she.
Sad 😢
Oh, I didn't know she passed away ! She is the kind of personality I enjoy to watch on YT because she lifts my spirits ! She will let a great legacy !

my mom used to sing this to me when i was little and she would wash my hair. i always come back here if i wanna feel nostalgic. :)
My mom did too❣️ that’s why I’m here ❤️
That is how I know about this song and movie. I was born in 61.
My Mum sang this to me, and then I was a boy.
That's a terrible paradigm to instill in a small child. Would deeply affect what you believe about love and dynamics between men and women.
@@TrueWalker88 i think I turned out okay 🤷♀️

R.I.P. Mitzi, yet another star has left us.
She was a true Dame
Bless you, Ms Mitzi, may you rest with your friends who have passed, always a song on your lips and a kick in your step!
Not a bad thing to be remembered for, you will be forever young and will be watched and admired forever, thank you for the memories and RIP Mitzi.
I don't mind admitting, as a 79-year-old male, I had had a crush on darling Mitzi since I was 14. The quintessential Hollywood beauty.
I luv this musical, definitely one of the most gorgeous color films ever made.
I really miss Rogers and Hammerstein films, they were so awesome!
We'll love and miss you forever, Mitzi. Thank you for all the years of entertainment ❤
I used to sing this song while I was washing my little girls hair. They loved it.
I'll never understand why do I love so much those movies, it's like getting memories I never thought I had coming back to my head.
Reincarnation and Dejavu.
Music as therapy. Songs heal.
Mitzi Gaynor's presence in South Pacific is one of the reasons that I decided that I like musicals.
My mother sang this to me, and we had the album of themovie musical. Merry Christmas Mom!!

Rest In Peace Ms Mitzi Gaynor 🙏🕊️😢💔🌹🌹
The great Mitzi! RIP!
She said she left movies because she was "just ordinary". Not to me!
In South Pacific, she was extraordinary!
Sadly missed. RIP Mitzi.
So vivacious and sunny!
RIP❤
Just a glorious and wonderful snatch from a terrific Holywood musical, with stunning location scenes.
If your talking about the lady in the orange / red shorts I totally agree!

I remember clairol hair dye did a take on this song.. Im gonna wash that gray right outta my hair
Mitzi Gaynor and Mary Martin delivered the best renditions of this classic number.
*RIP Mitzi* 🙏🙏❤🔥❤🔥
This takes me back to when I was very young
Rest in peace ❤
Mitzi Gaynor was really fit.❤.
I remember well Rossano Brazzi’s big number, “Some Enchanted Evening”, and how perfect it was.
Except he didn't sing it.
Singing this song as I color my own hair during this 2020, June Pandemic

Aww. The memories of listening to Jimmy's records in 2009 2010.

Were people immaculately conceived back then in 1958? Women have been washing men out of their hair since the stone age.

I have to thank Chief Inspector Dreyfus for introducing me to this song XD.
Is this based on the Clairol commercial or is the Clairol commercial based on this?
Reminds me of an 80' commercial.
Alas! I'm not in the U.S.A.

Don't imagine for a moment that there wasn't a double meaning back in 1949 too.

When she starts dancing an obviously black blues dance with white shampoo on the inside of her palms, it almost looks intentional

I think this was shot on Kauai's Haena-beach. "Some Enchanted Evening" was shot in Princeville. A luxury hotel was built on that location.
I really liked cinematic however whats all this casting issues
any better improvement
when they say "Arms", it kinda sounds like they are saying "Arse". Which made this song really dirty
