Oh yea!! Transfer the timing mark to the front belt pulley and shoot it with a timing light(with an external battery) and mark the mag and base for a future reference. Just a little assurance thing so that you know where it is, rather than just guessing---although you had it pretty damn close.
@@843chops have you ever seen the one jfrost / frostcycleshop did a few years ago, if not, definitely check it out. i think he did it before they had kits, but you have done a great job and i can't wait to see when it is done.
Success! Great job! I can only imagine how nerve-racking the thought of the initial start-up was. Building an engine is one thing, but cutting it in half and then hoping it runs afterward...
Oh yea man, that first cut with the saws all when I could see into the trans meant there’s no going back. Once you get past that though it’s really pretty straight forward with the Shortsters kit, definitely recommend his stuff for those project. Now I gotta clean everything up and make it look presentable for a bike show, we’ll try to at least.
If you haven’t done it you should use the left foot brake shaft on the pre 1974 and older ironheads. that comes from the right side of the bike and goes to the left side. You’ll be able to connect a linkage right to that drum brake.
Very nice, great to see it running. A little jackshaft setup for the rear brake would would look pretty trick, but a cable would probably be easier to set up.
That would be sweet, I think I’m going to run a hand control for the rear brake, after messing with a few setups that will possibly be the cleanest and give me a hand brake for hills with the suicide clutch.
Very interested in your magneto setup and if you had to make modifications to the cam chest looked around on TH-cam there are no videos on mag conversions anyway very cool bike
Thanks, the mag running off the tachometer drive was a direct bolt in basically, no other mods required to the cam cover. It’s working pretty good so far.
If I had a lathe that could be an option, but I can’t make an adapter for the sprocket easily. After this video I ended up running the rear brake from a hand control on the bars.
@@843chops Good fix. Worth considering that a lot of Jap bikes ran cable actuated rear brakes before discs became the standard. Cables sure save a lot of routing problems as compared to solid linkage. Really liking your project.
Do you o ourself a favor use a front clamp for your exhaust and one on the rear. Spigot even with new exhaust and clamps still fall off. My experience with my ironhead.
Very true, this was a real quick mock up to get it running. The front pipe was actually safety wired to the frame during this video. I’m redoing the whole exhaust.
Brings back memories , ran a Joe Hunt + generator with a Jammer voltpack 40 years ago, that's an awesome build 🇦🇺
I really like running mags on bikes if I can. Now I have to figure a cool points cover, for my non points setup lol.
Amazing sound ❤
Thank you 😋
Outstanding 👍
Right 👍 on sweet bike
The moment we all waited for!!! HELL YES!!!
Over the top cool! Well done.
Man you are a genius !! Congrats on this , just picked up a 77 xlh 1000 last week . Now I got yet another project ,lol G. Speight
I like the 77’s this one was actually in really good shape before I cut it in half.

Yep it’s close, I need to get it closer once I get the rings and everything fully seated. But not too bad for a first start after so many changes.
HELL YEAH!!! SHWEET MUSIC!
Nice! Subscribed! I love it, mag genny Ironhead, so sick!
Thanks, can’t wait to get it off the lift.
Looks and sounds great man👍🏼
Thanks alot.
Awesome bro! Sounds great too.
Thanks a lot!
Great job, I wish i had your smarts.
The kit makes it pretty easy. Just gotta get the saws all out and go to town.

Great build
Thanks alot
very cool bike
Thanks

@@843chops Nice Build. Are you familiar with Allen Millyard? He's a Brit who builds 6 cylinder kawasaki Z-1's & 5 cylinder
2 stroke kawasakis.
Thinking outside the box like the 45 Magnum conversion with flathead lower end and Sportster top end.
I want to do a flat head, I just haven’t found one for reasonable price yet. I really want a UL.

That might be a future option with this frame, I don’t have a pre 74 frame to chop up and steal parts from currently.

I will tell my grand kids about you one day.
Dude! 🤩🤩🤩
Tough as nails 🔨
🤘
Nice job bud
Thanks
😃 hell yeah dude!!!!! That thing is cool as it gets 💯 born free 16 😉
I wish lol. I gotta really start cleaning some things up before I try and take it the smoke.

@@843chops who makes the magneto and how much did they usually cost?
Great looking bike. Should be a hit at the Smokeout.
Thanks man, I hope so
Great job with the Carburetor, that screwdriver 🪛 did the trick. Sweet idle 💯
I need to ride it and tune everything. Should be by the end of the month
Dude that bike is fucking sick as hell.
Thanks man, now I’m going to clean everything up and make it more show presentable. Now tried to build a bike actually clean and polished before.
As for the rear brake, how about running the drum minus the sprocket on the right and just a sprocket on the left?
If I had a lathe that could be an option, but I can’t make an adapter for the sprocket easily. After this video I ended up running the rear brake from a hand control on the bars.

Flash the genrator.
You don’t flash cycle electric generators
Disconnect the regulator .and flash it@@843chops
Sounds weak
Is an ironhead, they ain’t known for being fast.
