How can you put a big market team like the Lakers below a small market team with bad assets like Washington? It doesn't even matter if the Lakers don't have draft picks, stars will always want to go there so although they might not always be in title contention they will always have a future. Seriously, it’s significantly better than most of the B teams. Absolutely agree. Just from the donovan and gobert trades they got in a great spot. "extra" pieces in those trades such as Markkanen and Kessler turned out to be huge assets worth way more than they got them for, and Will Hardy has already proved to have great potential
Lakers get a D? They just made the WCF with a squad that only played 30 games together. Now they get an offseason and can make moves to get better. The Warriors have enough assets to pull off 2 blockbuster trades if they want to. These teams are in better shape than 20 teams easily.
I personally would have the Hawks a tier higher because of their young core. They can be competitive with that team until they have their picks again, or they can trade everyone and rebuild that way. They’ve made it out of the first round recently enough to put them on par with the Kings in my opinion Tuck. I would also put the Magic in the S tier for those same reasons you listed, although I might be placing too much faith in Jonathan Isaac returning to be an elite defender.
There's no way the Rockets can be an A tier when the wolves are at B. Not to mention the Rockets still owe OKC some picks and if they lose at least one of them, they're probably screwed unless they become real good real fast. Not to mention Dallas is literally screwed if they piss off Luka and he leaves.
Houston has Brooklyn's picks, the #4 pick, money, and a great coaching staff while Minnesota traded 5 years of first-round picks for a 30-year-old Gobert and has no cap space.
@@AaronTats What "great coaching staff" do they have? Also, what direction do they have? Who is their #1 guy? What is their identity? You can't necessarily say you have a bright future when all you have are young players with "potential" and draft picks that have the "chance" to be good. The reason Minnesota isn't as screwed as the national media depicts it is is because they have a clear-cut #1 guy now (Ant), can move players around to have cap space and some assets (most notably KAT and to some degree Gobert) and also have young players who showed legit signs of being good at what they did (McDaniels, Reid, NAW...) They have an identity of being a good defensive team and their new starting lineup only played 7 games together without a proper training camp or anything. And this is all happening DESPITE trading all those picks. Those picks are also all gonna be in the late teens because they align with Ant's prime and he alone is gonna win them a lot of games. So how is this not a better situation than Houston?
@@kgtd2160 you’re right about all of those questions about Houston, but Minnesota is going to have to make some moves if they want to solve their own problems and questions. I didn’t expect Minnesota to actually be willing to trade KAT until it came out today that there’s smoke about it. They could end up dramatically raise their future ceiling if they get a good deal done. But you have to admit that the Gobert trade was really, really, bad for them and created an unnecessary obstacle. Their front office probably can’t afford to make another mistake again. Houston though hired Ime Udoka and brought his old assistants with him, and they are in a super flexible position to bolster their roster super-fast and in a good way. I think both teams are able to see that their ceilings aren’t championship level as of now, but Minnesota is going to have to work harder than Houston from here on out since they gave themselves not that room to grow in their current position. They can’t afford to mess up again.
The Lakers own their 2026, 2028-2030 picks, and will have either their 2024 pick or 2025 depending on which one the pels choose. They also have Austin Reaves, a player any team in the NBA would want, with room to improve, along with Rui who has room to grow as well. They also have Anthony Davis in his prime, and can use his value to gain draft picks if needed in the post-lebron era. We're also not in the super tax like the clippers are. Putting us in D makes no sense. It made sense last year, but with the addition of Rui and the blossoming of AR15 a lot has changed. You need to update your picks
I'm looking at how old this video is and it said a month...... How far in the future are you basing this? You have two teams at the bottom that can win it all?
As a Raps fan im very divided on their future. They dont really have any young promising starter-caliber players outside of Scottie Barnes. Christian Koloko and Dalano Banton have shown signs of intrigue but they both have a lot to work on. Malachi Flynn, despite improving his 3pt shot a bit last year, hasn't panned out into even being a quality bench piece. Given how free agents generally dont like to come to Toronto because of how bad taxes are playing here despite the culture, Toronto can only really afford to go for blue chips and hope they pan out and there's not a lot of them this off-season. If Pascal, OG and Fred get traded this team is gonna be the new Pistons.
Gross oversight on the pistons imo. They have tons of leverage and trade peices like Bogdanovic and arguably the most promising coaching staff in the league with Monty Williams and Stephen Silas. Getting the 5th pick wasn’t a dealbreaker, that with Bogy can be flipped into something valuable
Rockets have Jalen, Bari, Tari, Sengun etc. Ime and a championship coaching staff. The most money to spend and Brooklyns picks. That’s an s tier future
Notice this guy put the NY Knicks who has a ton of assets Jalen Brunson all NBA performer Julius Randall and made it to the second round this year in the same category or below lottery teams. I can’t with this fucking guy 😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂
Unless they decide to trade beal i would keep them there. A new front office isnt going to change the fact your overpaying a guy in his 30's that has such a monstous contract it will be difficult to add any major pieces. The only way to fix that is to trade beal and thats only if teams are still interested at this point. Hes been on the decline lately
I don't think Antonio can be S-tier before they show what Wembanyama can do in the league. They just had the worst record in the west, and S-tier should only be considered for future title contenders. And they just are not gonna compete with the other s-tiers for the next 5 years.
The lakers have rui Reaves and Vando and we lack a tone of young talent???? and they just came off a WCF appearance but we are in D tier yeah whatever man
Dubs fan and definitely disagree with the ranking. Based off how I figured you'd defined your tiers, they would be a B tier team. All the B tier teams were teams either with great/star aging players with some questionable young guys but still have control of their draft assets mostly. Or they're a younger team that has a collection of good to great young players but don't have that person to take them over top. Dubs definitely fit that former. Steph is still playing at the top of his abilities and looks like he can for at least a couple more years but agreed he could drop off in the next couple of years also. Draymond and Klay aren't their peak selves but still have some fight in them though not sure what direction the team goes. Young guys are questionable but we know what Poole could be based off what we saw in 21-22, Moody shows flashes of being a good 3-D type guy, Kuminga is still an enigma but the flashes of potential are so tantalizing and he was getting a lot of run during the season so this doesn't seem like a skill thing but something mental or about effort, and who knows about PBJ or Rollins at this point but PBJ had lottery potential before the injuries derailed him. I know it's cheating a little bit but the list would've benefitted from splitting the B tier into B+/B/B-. That way teams could've been ranked that way and showed the actual stratification inside the B tier. Otherwise it was just sort of a muddled mess. There's also a lot of emphasis on teams in the A and S tier with lots of draft picks that allowed a lot of hand waving for fairly mid talent that's currently on the team.
Great video, but some changes I would have to make. You have to keep your same valuation of stars consistent when talking about the Grizzlies and move them down to the B tier because they have everything else going for them, but an erratic franchise player, whereas a team like Dallas has very few things going for them but has Luka. Also would move Pistons up to A tier, feel like their future is just as good as the Magic, and then would probably move Minnesota down to C tier because they have so little going for them outside of Ant. No future draft picks, KAT and Gobert at their lowest trade value ever, etc.
The one I'm not certain about the tier of is the Lakers. They got a few players at midseason, and made a conference final when most wrote them off. They shouldn't be on top, but I don't think they necessarily have the second worst future.
Detroit is getting way overlooked here. They’re super young, have tons of cap space, and plenty of future picks. This a championship contender in like 5 years. Don’t trip
To me the knicks get a bump up, those picks and brunson alone are enough. The pistons get bumped up as well, they have one of the best young cores in basketball. Id bump the mavs down, we've seen it with bron. Having that future mvp talent is tough if you have nothing to help him.
too many teams in the B tier. Minnesota haven decimated their future from trading for Gobert, I see Edwards as more likely leaving during free agency from just sheer frustration with front office. The 76ers rely so much on Embiid that teams are starting to see his movement on defence as a weakness they can exploit consistently on high pick and rolls, its been a long time since the "Process" era when they gathered assets like Robert Covington and Jerami Grant on the cheap, they should be lower
I wrote above half way through video. The Pelicans are overrated, Zion's career is going south as soon as injuries creep up on him. Brandon Ingram will be more important to the Pelicans than Zion. Again, the Rockets are young and have some draft picks but they're fairly "meh". Same with Hornets who have LaMelo but the Bridges situation lowers their ceiling. Rozier is probably going to look overpaid with the contract he is on and they still have to pay Hayward 30 million next season (yeah its expiring but it's more of a waiving situation than a salary dump opportunity)
I'd been inclined to put Cleveland in top tier. Love Jarrett Allen, how Nets chose DeAndre Jordan over him I will never fully understand. Mitchell is still only 26. They have tall athletic Mobley that the rest of the league desperately want. Darius Garland is an All Star.
I know I’m a biased fan but I just don’t see how we’re in the same tier as some of these other teams like Indy, Toronto, and Brooklyn. We took a big leap this year and we have so much draft capital and players (IQ, Grimes, RJ) who we can swing in a trade for that true star alongside Brunson. Even Randle will have value for some team out there looking to add an all start caliber player.
this list is all over the place, like bucks should be wayyy lower if were looking a good distance into the future, but those lottery teams shouldn't be so high if were only looking a few years
Brooklyn in B makes 0 sense. They're a borderline playoff team and have all of Phoenix's draft assets, and the Suns are only going to decline due to aging, oft injured stars and salary cap issues.
I could not disagree with this list more. Like almost everything is wrong. Funny how different perspectives people can have. Let’s see what happens. How many years forward are you looking?
while agree with most of your points on the knicks, we have a lot of flexibility while alot of teams wont with new CBA. and brunson contract one of the best in the league.
I see lists like this and it's important to see a 50/50 split. You have 6 teams in the "red" and 13 teams in the "green" For instance I live in Dallas and I see VERY little UPSIDE with this team. They won't make the playoffs next year and they are clearly C tier.
Well, if for A tier you only need MVP level player. Why 76ers is not there? Ok-ok, i actually agree with that. But, Edwards have legit MVP candite potential, so Wolves should be on A tier, if Mavs are.
Just having Booker, and the fact that players are drawn to play with him should garner some respect. That's not to even mention that he's still young and one of the best players in the league, but alas, for some reason he doesn't get as much respect as say ANT or others.
The Suns feel like such a glass cannon though. This team can be good, or it can completely shatter and leave the team with no way to recover and basically force Booker to demand a trade.
@@JonSmith-hk1bq Fair enough, but we don't have any evidence that he would ever demand a trade. We have more evidence that he would just convince more stars to come play with him.
@@ssholla92 How exactly would that be accomplished? Durant and Beal both have several years left on their contracts, so no free agents are coming. If things go sour with either of those two, it's going to take a lot to move off of those deals, and the Suns don't have any draft picks left that they can offer. Ayton is kinda the only asset they have left to flip in hopes of helping Booker. And I'm not sure he worth all that much.
@JonSmith-hk1bq We don't know right now how that would be accomplished, but we don't need to at the moment either. We can see how things go this season first. They have enough high-end talent to weather injuries to any one of them, and their depth isn't bad this yr. There were many that believed they couldn't make the Durant trade, and it happened. No one really thought they were going to get Beal for CP3, and in fact, most believed the Suns were going to just dump CP3 for nothing. By the end of the yr, they will at least have a 1st to trade and may have another available in the future. Keep in mind that they got some 2nds back also in a separate trade.
@@ssholla92 Beal happened because the Wizards handed Beal a no-trade clause for unfathomable reasons and had zero leverage when they decided it was time to move off of him. A clause, I'll remind you, that the Suns have now inherited for the next four seasons (making him potentially the worst contract in the NBA right now). There's a good chance that the Suns traded a good team piece in Paul with an expiring contract (why the Wizards took the deal) for intensely negative value and what looks like a bad team fit. It's like what the Lakers had with Westbrook, except it'll be four years, not two before the contract is close enough to completion that they can offload him, and even if the Suns find someone to take Beal off their hands, Beal could veto it.
I disagree with a lot of this list honestly. There’s too many teams that are too high (Atlanta, Toronto, Minnesota, Washington, Chicago, Dallas) and too many teams that are too low (Brooklyn, Miami, LAL, Detroit, Houston). I think when you really consider everything about these teams and I mean EVERYTHING then you’ll understand where I’m coming from.

And taking the Warriors to game 7 but yeah bad trade wtf??

How can you put a big market team like the Lakers below a small market team with bad assets like Washington? It doesn't even matter if the Lakers don't have draft picks, stars will always want to go there so although they might not always be in title contention they will always have a future. Since Kareem, they have never spent more than 4 years without a top tier star on their roster. Kareem, Magic, Shaq, Kobe, LeBron, etc.
Plus people think we don't have draft picks..we legit only owe 2 picks & that's it! One of 2024 or 2025 to Pelicans & 2027 to Utah & that's it! We have this years & it's in the teens & all other first rounders except the ones i mentioned

This list is all over the place, especially the B tier. The Knicks, Pacers, Timberwolves and Sixers in the same tier is nonsense. And Dallas in A tier???
The Knicks should’ve been in A tier Brunson was an amazing pick up who’ll be a superstar level talent with an already solid young roster of defense wings they’re set. Somehow Dallas makes it to A tier tho??? Their future looks like a C with flat earthier kyrie and no defense so far

The Pacers placement is a head scratcher, didn’t even offer much as far as reasoning as to how their future is at the same level as the other B tier teams.
Seriously, it’s significantly better than most of the B teams. Have a great young back court with Hali, Nembhard, and Mathurin, serviceable young wings in Nesmith, nwora, and (hopefully) whichever forward they pick at 7 this year, and Turner (who is the team’s veteran presence and is now on a good extension). That would actually be bad for the spurs cause you wouldn’t get a high draft pick. What fked the mav’s over early was Luka was too good and it was hard to rebuild in the draft cause he kept carrying them to playoffs. Similar to young LeBron in Cleveland aswell.
I’m clicking this knowing Atlanta is going to be lower than I thought. Atlanta ofc has the roster and the younger guys like AJ and Jalen have real potential, Okungwu is most likely going to start next year. I’m optimistic about Quinn but I need to see how the off-season goes because roster construction wise, they have to get better on the perimeter. (Cason Wallace plz.)

Atlanta should be A tier, they have a lot of young players with value. They can step up and contend, or they could rebuild and get a lot of value for a lot of players.

Compare to that to Orlando, who blew up their team after Houston did, who took a clear step forward this season. They had a winning record the final 57 games of the season after a crap start.
Also while Houston does have Brooklyn Picks, they don’t have their own picks going forward. Their picks go to OKC in 2024, 2026, and OKC can swap with them in 2025.

Lol nah

Don’t trip
Pretty good ranking. I still think Wemby might be over hyped though.
Ain't no way Chicago is above the lakers. Any given year, lakers can get a star post LeBron or ad
To me the knicks get a bump up, those picks and brunson alone are enough. The pistons get bumped up as well, they have one of the best young cores in basketball. Id bump the mavs down, we've seen it with bron. Having that future mvp talent is tough if you have nothing to help him.
Also Immanuel Quickley and Quentin Grimes for sure
Can you please update the Clippers logo in these vids lol
too many teams in the B tier.
Rockets above the wolves? No way.
Heat and Blazers in the same tier? Maybe if Portland trades Dame for a bunch of assets I guess
Even Randle will have value for some team out there looking to add an all start caliber player.
this list is all over the place, like bucks should be wayyy lower if were looking a good distance into the future, but those lottery teams shouldn't be so high if were only looking a few years
You should do a fun video on top 4 teams on each coast to win it all next season
Brooklyn in B makes 0 sense. They're a borderline playoff team and have all of Phoenix's draft assets, and the Suns are only going to decline due to aging, oft injured stars and salary cap issues.
Lakers being ranked a D sounds crazy to me. Lack of young talent? Reaves and Rui both 25, Vanderbilt 24, Troy Brown Jr. 23, Christie 20. Cmon man lol

while agree with most of your points on the knicks, we have a lot of flexibility while alot of teams wont with new CBA. and brunson contract one of the best in the league.

"The Ja thing's weird." understatement of the year.🤣
I see lists like this and it's important to see a 50/50 split. You have 6 teams in the "red" and 13 teams in the "green"
For instance I live in Dallas and I see VERY little UPSIDE with this team.
Poole Wiggins Kuminga Mooody PBJ is a beautiful long-term core plus all the cap space when steph and the core move on and all theur future draft picks
I feel like the Bucks should be in D as well. They had a ton of 30+ year old vets and Giannis is almost 30.
