Though Athai Madi is based on ragam Harikamboji, got the same feel since Sankarabaranam's notes when shifted using Graha bedham (keeping the note frequencies same but shifting the shadjam to the next note in the raga) yields 5 other major Melakarta ragas, namely kalyani, Hanumatodi, Natabhairavi, Kharaharapriya and Harikamboji. That explains the same look and feel between Athai Madi and Madurai Mani Iyer’s English note. Overall, as a child, aunty’s laptop (Athai madi) was a lot more comforting than the present day laptops from Lenovo, Dell and Acer :-) This Mandaveli Madhu Iyer’s athai madi would put not just the kids but most elders to sleep - so soothing and melodious :-)

So a lot of thought and trials go into it to make sure the original bgms only enhance the existing compositiona and not bring it down by a by measure.. Thank you !!

As u rightly said this requires tight rope walking and any slip would become pillayar pidikka poi kuranga mudinja kadhai. Similar to ur experiments with bgms, this is something I want u to try in the future to become a fully rounded singer. A quick browse thru ur videos, I don't see that many pathos songs of Suseela, barring a ninaikka therindha manamae and a couple of others may be. Take a pathos song, say a nee illadha ulagathilae nimmadhi illai or Enge neeyo naanum ange unnodu, with minimal bgm, say an odd flute, violin, tabla and make a video bringing about the emotions in the voice itself with the voice modulations. Would be a good exercise for u to bring about the emotions in the voice itself. Well, that's for an another day and let's enjoy athai madi presently :-)
@@madzi89 Having invoked the legend Madurai Mani Iyer and being a die hard fan of the legend who according to me is a GOAT (Greatest of all time) across genders when it comes to carnatic music. Thought I would share with u an anectode. Most pakkavadiyam artists would hestitate to share the stage with him. Even the veteran mridangam and violin accomplises would be caught napping because Mani Iyer would bring about his own variations and improvisations on the fly on the stage. This was not a deliberate act by the genius but when he is in a zone even he would not know how the next aalaap or swaram would come out of his mouth. If U are a fan of Mani Iyer any other carnatic musician will come a distant second. If u haven't heard just listen to his "Eppo Varuvaaro" and u would become his fan right there :-) As is the case with geniuses/prodigies like bharathiar, ramanujam, kannadasan, mandolin srinivas etc etc he also died at an young age of 55 in 1968.
Excellent creative use of strings! While preserving the original mood of the song, it has created a new musical listening experience. Sure, both MSV-TKR would have commended this experiment! Great team effort. Thanks.
