I 100% agree with disliking the first one. The end reveal of the Smile demon is pretty creepy but the rest of the movie ranges from funny bad to just bad. But the worst part is that they clobber you over the head into brain damage with the metaphor to the point where it's not even a metaphor, that metaphor also being an EXTREMELY popular/common trope nowadays. When there are plenty of other movies that use that metaphor to much better and often more subtle effect. And I unfortunately knew about the Possession remake (w/Robert Pattinson as the Sam Neill character... Pattinson is a fine actor but I CANNOT see him doing an equal or better performance). You cannot remake that movie, and like Adam said there is no reason to. There's literally no other twist or angle you could add to the story or anything you could do to make it better. The original is one of those few "truly international" movies, partially by design but also partially unintentionally. Polish director, French + NZ leads (Isabelle Adjani is literally the most beautiful person I've seen in a movie in Possession, and one of the best French actresses of her generation. I (Truth or) DARE the Smile director to find someone that brilliant of an actress who could carry that wild and physical of a performance and is also that stunning beautiful), set/filmed in Berlin (with a specific plot context for that), and the main SFX were done by Carlo Rambaldi (who specialized in animatronics and worked on numerous majorly influential movies with very influential directors, including Profondo Rosso, ET, and Alien, the latter two for which he won Academy Awards for SFX). You cannot replicate that sort of range of cultural influence and that immense talent. Sam Neill and Isabel Adjani are both at 11 constantly with their performances but it's very intentional and works for the movie. It's also very surreal and intentionally quite fragmented. Everyone who's a fan of it who I've talked to or seen review it has a different interpretation. Even the director (Żuławski) said it was never meant to be completely understood (even by him) or have one interpretation. So how are you going to remake that unless it's literally the same movie shot-for-shot (and then it'll just be the Psycho remake), especially with this director which will probably make it have a clear narrative and have some bullshit message behind it like with Smile? I really really don't want to see how he'll bastardize the subway scene.
I dont understand why the concept of someone smiling at another person is supposed to be scary. the first movie was good, because it didn't just centre around people smiling and the main character being scared. it created an atmosphere, a world and a creature that closed in on the main character, which resulted in a shocking and brutal ending that was not at all happy or expected. you know this movie is either going to be the exact same or the exact same with some minor changes that are not at all scary or creative.

He was joking when he said that. I think. I hope.
Wait but what would happen if someone watching the smile person commit suicide just looked away? Would they still have the demon attach to them or are they able to evade the curse by turning around?
Excuse me, was there a Smile 1?
Yes it's available on Prime Video
The first movie sucked ass but I had a good time laughing at it with my dad in theaters. Maybe this one will match that spirit lol
You're a freaking dmbass with shit taste if u seriously thing the first movie sucked. It was incredibly well-done in all the right places and took a concept that's been done to death and knocked it out of the park
its not scary but i wouldnt call it terrible (my opp dont wanna hear yours)
I liked the first smile but I don't think I've watched a single horror movie that broke a 4/10
you need to watch more horror movies then cause thats fuckin insane 💀
No smile will every be scarier than what Biolife used to have in the login page. Shit was legit disturbing.
Behold! The scariest image known to man:
😃
At 4:57 editor should

It ain’t scary but I had lots of fun with the first one 😭
Nice avatar
That last part is hilarious. I half feel like they made it funny on purpose, but I feel like that's giving them too much credit. That would be a perfect scene for a comedy horror.
