    Srsly no other dentist has ever been this explicit, helpful and clear about how braces really work, I might be stupid for hyping over something everybody already understood but it's really an eye opening discovery I've been trying to understand since I got my braces on 1 and a half months ago! THANK YOU SO MUCH! 💕

    I have an overbite and severely crowded teeth on my lower jaw. Got 4 teeth extracted to begin with my braces journey. I'm 30 and I'm finally getting braces. I have been contemplating them since I was 18. But since my case needed 4 extractions, I couldn't gather the courage to go through with it and ended up procrastinating for over a decade. Now that I'm through the hard part, I'm already looking forward to the results. That's the only thing that keeps me going! I'd love to share my experience with people on the same journey :)

      @@SuyashaSharma That's great! I'm loving my journey. Been a week since I got my upper braces bonded and honestly felt no pain at all. Just that my teeth felt sore for the first 4 days and I felt them only when I ate. I could easily eat soft foods and by the third day I got used to beaces. Plus the cleaning is not even much of hassle. I dedicate 10 mins in the night for deep cleaning and brush after every meal to avoid stains on my ceramic brackets. How's it going for you? I write my replies in detail for people who are new or for people who are still contemplating on getting braces.

    As someone who has an overbite and needs braces. I never really gave it too much thought on how they work. I had them for maybe 3 years to 3 years and 6 months. This has been really interesting to see how they work and is well explained. If any one is getting braces, it is safe to say is when they first put them on there won’t be much of a difference from what you can feel, until the next day you will have pain depending (as for me it was my lower jaw and teeth) this is usually from the difference of your teeth being moved around since it’s not what your supposed too. After a week or more there might be some lingering pain but you should be alright. If they change the wires this will cause slight pain just because the old wires loosen and the new wire will be less soft. Also the pain won’t be as annoying as the first time you get them and a little last note is don’t try to eat hard foods such as apples and cut them up into smaller chunks. 👍😊

      It will go away. The worst pain for me was the spacers for the bands on my molars. I nearly went through the roof when I brushed my teeth the night I got the spacers installed. Once the spacers came out and the bands went on my molars and the brackets on the rest, it was very comfortable. The spacers were the worst part of the 3 years I had braces when I was a teenager.

    I got braces - gosh, seven years ago now? Absolutely amazing. The orthodontists were concerned that they might have to go in and surgically bring up a tooth that had never had space to come in, but once the braces moved my other teeth out of the way it was able to come in on it’s own. Hooray! I’m getting Invisalign now to correct some mild crowding and rotation in the front that’s developed since I finished braces (and because I really want a retainer to keep my teeth this way. If I’m going to get a retainer, I might as well fix up the place before I do, no?)

    This was really helpful, thank you! I just got my braces at 24 due to two impacted (?) canines. We have a family history with delayed tooth growth. (I was 8 when I lost my first baby tooth, still waiting for the last two canines to erupt. Same happened to my siblings, my father and his mother.) Judging by the x-rays my dentist told me that those two still have a chance to erupt on their own, once we make space for them, because the periosteum isn't fully solidified, or something like that. (I know it should be by 13 or so, but again, family history. ) Anyways, it's really cool to see my teeth change week by week. I'm starting week 3 today, and I just noticed that one of my already erupted canines is a lot longer than it used to be. I didn't even know it wasn't fully out before! I'm generally just really excited about the whole process.

    This was pretty cool to see. Had like 3 years of braces at around 10 years old and hated it, also got a few teeth pulled. Now very thankful because the teeth fit well in the mouth and look rather nice as a bonus. The downside is that occasionally when very stressed out, I see nightmares or dreams where I still have braces (especially the behind the neck ones that look so embarrassing) in public and feel the pull constantly.

    this was cool! I had braces for 9 months, which is super short but my teeth weren't bad. I was very self-conscious of my two front teeth as they overlapped. Don't regret getting them at all. There were a pain in the beginning as I had to get one of the squares on the back molar moved closer to the gum due to the shape of the tooth (it doesn't have a smooth side, more like a steep slant) and it was in the way of my natural bite (actually ended up causing the square to come off the tooth due to the bite). I also have hypoplasia of the teeth and nails so my teeth are much weaker than normal teeth, so probably also made them easier to manipulate?

    • @BaronDHall
      @BaronDHall  3 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      It's also the $250,000 in student debt, the $100,000 x-ray machine, the staff salaries, misc equipment, etc. and not just "a bunch of brackets and wires." In addition, I glossed over quickly in the video, but there is a fine art to the placement of the brackets. If they do not get placed in the correct positions then the teeth will not move correctly. There's also the age-old question: what happens if things don't go according to plan? In almost every case there will be something unexpected happen, and that's when you rely on the knowledge and expertise of the orthodontist. That knowledge is very valuable, just like the knowledge and expertise of a medical doctor. I hope that makes sense 😁

    Amazing video ! Finally completely understood how braces actually move the teeth... I'm about to get mine next month.. it's gonna be a classic type like in this video. But my dentist kept recommending the pitts21 braces, he said it significantly takes less time and can put both the upper and lower braces since day one, unlike the classic type where I'll need to wait 5-6 months for the lower braces.. but it's also more expensive, is it worth it or should I just use the classic model?

    • @BaronDHall
      @BaronDHall  2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I have honestly never understood why some orthodontists wait to put braces on the bottom teeth in nearly every case. Maybe they know something I don't, and it's very possible you have a circumstance that would warrant it (waiting on teeth to erupt, an impacted tooth somewhere, etc.) So, there are a handful of circumstances where it is warranted, but there are many out there who do it on every single patient. I have placed the top and bottom braces on thousands of people on the same day, and I average about 18-20 months total treatment time. I think you'll do great with the "classic" method 😁 Good luck!

    Hey doc! Very informative and clear video demonstration. I was wondering what is the main difference of a typodont simulator that is made out of wax or polycaprolactone. Which of these 2 are a closer simulation to real gums and which of these are easier to work with?

    • @BaronDHall
      @BaronDHall  2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      That is a great question that is not easily answered. Polycaprolactone is more of a plastic that has wax-like properties, but both are insoluble in water and will melt at certain temperatures. Neither of them will behave like gums unless you get a soft wax. The reason that I used polycaprolactone instead of wax is because it will be slightly firmer than wax when melted and it turns clear when melted so I can show the root movement. I hope this is what you were asking, but please let me know if you need further clarification. Thanks for watching!

  • @RayGirll

    This is a pretty cool video! I literally have never thought about roots having to move like that. I had braces for 4 years and it was definitely torture, but braces were 100% worth it to get straight teeth. Six years later I still wear my retainers at night because I don’t want to chance getting needing braces again.
    And a question. I just finished a dental assisting program in my state and I’ve been thinking about maybe working at an orthodontist instead of a dentist. I know each state has different requirements, but in general do orthodontic assistants need different/special training than dental assistants? I really loved learning how to take impressions and make retainers. I’m also legally allowed to radiate people. 😆

    • @RayGirll
      @RayGirll 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@basetoace3951 Yeah! I’m sorry for such a slow response. Just look into what the requirements are for the state you live in, because I think it varies a lot.
      So the program I enrolled in was pretty quick, it lasted 3 months. My class had dental assistants teaching and a dentist would come and we would assist with patients. It was a good experience, I just had to get over nerves of actually helping assist the dentist with real people. We had to take the state Radiology exam which was one of the most nerve wracking parts (so that we could legally take x-rays of peoples teeth). We also had to have an internship actually working in a dental office while going through school so that helped quite a bit doing hands on while learning. I learned A lot about teeth, but I feel like there’s still SO much to learn. If you’re thinking about it, I think you should go for it. I’m glad I did!

      Hey, thanks for watching (tell your friends to sub). Placing brackets is an art. There are many ways to make it beautiful. There are many orthodontists that like to place the bracket a little closer to the gums, and there is nothing wrong with that. Obviously there are wrong ways to perform artwork just like there are wrong ways to place brackets, but it sounds like your orthodontist just has a preference to place them closer to the gums. Thank you for sharing the knowledge! I just have a few doubts: Do you think patients with overbite but straight teeth mostly need braces, or is it just for aesthetics? Also, there is this fact or myth going on for years that braces after teenage can weaken up your bite. Is this true? What is the latest age at which you can get optimal results from braces without any sacrifice on time or strength of your teeth?

    • @BaronDHall

      1) Yes, a non-ideal bite can potentially cause problems in the future.
