I’m 8 months into Invisalign and I feel basically no discomfort anymore, not even when switching to a new tray. Keeping them in 20-22 hours is also so easy now i dont even think about it. I don’t think a single person has noticed I wear them without me telling them, even my girlfriend constantly forgets. The downside however is being in public or something and craving a drink or snack that may just not be worth it to remove the aligners for. Some people stop snacking all together and just eat their usual 2-3 daily meals and thats called the Invisalign Diet lol
@@Alina-gf4ku I’m on 16/35, I see a difference but just barely, I have a gap in my front teeth (i’d say is about 50% closed, it was pretty big) but i’ve noticed it kind of started with my overcrowded bottom row before it got to the gap. It’s a really slow process but i’ve noticed enough to stay optimistic, it’s also so easy for me now that its not like this incredible hassle so i dont need much to keep me going. Some people see results at different paces depending what problems they have w their teeth. Stick with it, theirs a whole community out their going through the same thing. @@TryinaD same here 🤣 I got faster improvements for my bite too(1 month then it got trimmed) . Too bad that my dentist uses this for my TMJ treatment only and I would still need braces afterwards. I wish we have that tech(?) here in our country. Now I'm not sure if they're the same thing but my "appliance" looks the same 😆
I started my Invisalign just two days ago, and guys I’ve been smiling more because the Invisalign makes it seem like your teeth are already straight. I have a minor gap in the front of my teeth and I’ve been extremely insecure about it but now I’m talking and laughing as if I’ve never had it! Hopefully I can keep you guys updated I only have 9 more trays left to go and it will take me 5 months to complete!!
I'm in braces since October so about two months. At first I was really upset I didn't go with Invisalign, because I was uncomfortable, was having sores in my cheeks and flossing was taking forever!!! Fast forward a couple of months and I'm absolutely positive braces are the perfect fit for me!! I'm a busy mom of 2 little kids and although morning and night time oral hygiene are sacred, I can't find the time to constantly brush after each meal, like I should've done had I had Invisalign. I love sipping on my coffee all throughout the morning, oftentimes my meal time gets interrupted by the kids so the time it takes to finish it's prolonged, which with Invisalign wouldn't have been ideal. So if you're debating which route to go I suggest tracking your eating habits for a few days and see if you can be super organized, and if you are likely to maintain a great oral hygiene.
Omg this comments really helps a lot. I am also a mom and I've been debating back and forth on which one to get but I'm leaning more towards ceramic braces cause of your comment. Thank you!
@@mizcolombiana890 I'm so glad you found it useful! Yes, I highly encourage you to get the ceramic braces. For some reason I felt my orthodontic office were not very keen on the ceramic braces and I ended up getting ceramic braces on the front upper 6 teeth and the rest are gold. I really wished I would have gotten all ceramic cause they are very neat looking!!! Either way, it's been now almost 6 months since I'm in braces, the progress is insane and I loveeeee how my smile looks now (minus the elastics i started wearing this week lol. ) but all in all I'm just beyond happy with my braces! Good luck to you!!
@@cluflu5831 Omg so happy for you! That's so exciting to hear. I'm going back in the next couple weeks to let them know and place the order. I just have to ask a couple more questions about retainers and what not. Good luck on your journey! Keep me posted please
i’ve had braces 2 times and my teeth shifted back even after wearing the retainers. i started my invisalign’s november 2020 and it’s been sooooooo much better!
@@bannedagain8123 well, take into consideration that you’re more capable of eating with braces, you just need to brush afterwards. With invisalign, you need to excuse yourself for both before AND after meals
Invisalign doesn’t work as good as braces. My personal experience is it fails to correct my lower front teeth and turned my molar teeth in a really weird position that I don’t have a normal bite now. I regret in getting Invisalign over braces.
@livt.martin3908 Did you get Invisalign through an orthodontist or a general dentist? Braces are an orthodontist's specialty, so they would want to correct those things through refinements.
Just got my clear braces put in yesterday finally as an adult. So happy because my teeth are one of my biggest insecurities! Don’t be cheap and do SDC like myself and many others ultimately having to just get braces/Invisalign after anyway.
Brandon Brown, I am related to you about insecurities. I have lived my entire life in a big low self esteem. Finally my fear is over. I am getting invisaline soon 👏🏼👏🏼
@@Deeviiouss Very minimal. I'm on tray #2 right now but the only discomfort i experienced came within the first 2-3 days of putting in each of the retainers. Then after a while I think our teeth/gums get used to the tension
@@Deeviiouss Yes! I am already smiling a lot more. Silly as it sounds, it's one of the most freeing experiences to start smiling with my teeth since I've kind of tried to hide or alter the way i've smiled for nearly 2 decades
@@lauren2551 Just keep them in unless you're eating or drinking anything other than water, and clean them daily. It's slightly difficult to take them out at first (more so for me because I have a tendency to bite my nails so it was difficult for me to remove them at first) but it becomes easy. Just slowly loosen it from one side and work your way around.
That's true when I talk to my dentist about getting invisalign he said we have to see your teeth if invisalign can do it or something to that effect because if not we have to go through a metal brace. In the end I got the invisalign.
I am on tray 6/20 of my Invisalign treatment and I am excited for the results! Also, couldn’t stop looking at your teeth throughout this video lol! Thanks for the info!
I'm 26 and just realizing I have slight spacing between a lot of my teeth. So I started paying closer attention to other people's teeth and it's crazy how tight everyone's smile seems. Then of course TH-cam decides to throw braces videos in my face out of the blue. Not sure if its something I should try to address because I wasn't self-conscious about it until now.
Everyone’s teeth are different. Your tiny gaps may actually suit you. I wouldn’t worry about changing it unless it really bothers you. Otherwise, just love your life and save your money! Not everyone has to have the exact same look and cookie cutter smile.
Tight doesn’t necessarily mean better! If you’re comfortable and there’s no issues caused by the little gaps, keep your lovely smile just the way it is :) don’t worry
Thanks for this awesome explanation! I’m in between wearing or not wearing aligners, but I feel your video help to decide I should go for them. I wore braces long ago when I was a teenager, but recently I noticed my teeth are tending to move back their previous positions, what bothers me a lot. My dentist suggested me Invisalign and told me my treatment should last no longer than 8 or 9 months.
@Sarai BayonTlamintzi aww i’m sorry that they hurt for you 😢 for me it hurt for a few days when i got them on first but i’ve had them a little over a year so it doesn’t really hurt
Pffft said no one ever lol. Wait until you get them off. You’ll be rubbing your tongue across the front of your teeth all day because your mouth will feel empty lol. Best feeling in the world.
I’ve been wearing my Invisalign for -13 weeks now my treatment is 1-52 and I’m so happy I wear mine for 23 hours I’m 27 I’m happy I found something that will improve my smile because that was my biggest insecurity and I’m so glad I got Invisalign. For people who have been fed the idea that Invisalign aligners can only be used in minor cases note that this is a thing of the past. Maybe it was true 5 years ago, but today the orthodontics around it have advanced so much that they can even sort a case like mine which has been deemed to be complicated (overcrowding, collapsed arch and misaligned bite). You do you, of course, but it's worth knowing it is an option in more complicated cases as well.
Thanks for this, I wanted Invisalign and went for a consult about 7 years ago and the Doctor mentioned I wasn't a good candidate. Glad to hear this! Hope your treatment is going well!
@@babajungLA It is, it has been a year so far and I have about 25 weeks left of my treatment. I can already see and feel a massive difference, especially how easy it is to brush my teeth now. I have to note that in addition to the Invisalign I have had and will be wearing elastics for the entirety of my treatment. I also had something called a carrier for the first 6 months, but bottom line is: it's working.
Although I’m in Texas, am 56 years old and have had braces through the The Baylor College of Dentistry when I was in high school, I found your video very informative! There are several instances where I would love to go back and have my smile and the health of my teeth back to their once beautiful state, where I was SO proud of them 😁Your video was so informative and easy to listen to, it made me wish I lived close enough to come by and become your patient! You’ve given me the incentive to start looking for dentists in my area that take my insurance and begin the job. Thank you for being so kind and explaining things so nicely.
I’m 58 and about to have upper and lower metal braces fitted. My teeth are fairly straight but my bite is off and has got worse over the last ten years. As I say, my teeth were fairly straight when I was younger so have never had orthodontic treatment even as a teenager when it was free (the English NHS provides free orthodontic treatment for under 18s).
However on a comment I saw the user said that invisiline only does minor corrections and braces are better for more complicated corrections. Also the has a reply from Gluck Orthodontics themselves saying thanks for the great comment, so I'm guessing they agree.
In another comment someone said they had an impacted canine and they went through a huge long and tricky process to fix them with invisiline. Gluck Orthodontics replied saying that aligners can have rubber band attachments to fix something like an impacted canine, but it's an inefficient process, and that it's because the mechanics of aligners makes them difficult to do a pulling motion. If you want to have the best option for getting teeth straightened, I would opt for braces, since they're a safer bet.
My orthodontist suggested traditional for my teeth because my canines needed to rotate. He didn’t think that Invisalign would work as well. I told him that I knew I would end up with worse teeth with traditional. I grew up in a house where floss was not bought. I was working on becoming a regular glosser as an adult. Flossing would be a chore that i would get sick of with regular braces. I also wanted to be able to eat what I wanted. I didn’t want to worry about broken pieces in my mouth. So he respected my wishes and I wore my Invisalign all the time like I was suppose to. In the end my orthodontist was impressed how well the Invisalign worked and I was happy too!!! Bc of the crooked bite I had so long, I had a tooth that was shortened. They put a veneer on that one. The work was done so well that no one has a clue that it’s a veneer
I had a complex case with serve crowding and some dentist weren’t even willing to try fix. I am 7 months into my treatment with Invisalign and my teeth are already in a line and my jaw has now been bought into the correct shape, I go to a specialist orthodontist who is London’s top provider for Invisalign, and he treats some of Europe’s most complex cases with Invisalign and the results are spectacular. I can personal vouch for that
Very helpful information - thank you! I think that you inadvertently skipped over a very important comparison, though, which is comparing the rules of eating & drinking in each type of treatment. Isn't it a whole lot more inconvenient with Invisalign since you only have a total of about two hours per day to eat three meals and it's nearly impossible to enjoy a night out having a couple of beers with friends?
Love this comment! You are totally correct about eating and drinking. The amount of time for that can be limited with aligners. That said, we do tell our patients they need to "live their life" and so if they have the aligners out for a few hours here and there - especially when having a couple of beers with friends :) - that's totally fine! The main way people's treatment gets off track is if they lose the habit of wearing the aligners all day, every day. But a few hours with the aligners out here and there are all good.
@@GluckOrthodontics Thank you for this!! This makes me feel better about sticking with Invisalign. I just had my consultation and paid for my upcoming treatments, but I was thinking of switching to braces mostly due to hanging out with friends! We go out eat, then coffee-it’s a several hours long get together! 😂
I have been on Invisalign for a year now and unfortunately I am slow eater. In saying that, I don't take out the aligners for drinks, only if it's a particularly hot drink. So it's only for snacking and eating. I do try to brush after every meal but if you want to snack you can do it and then pop the aligners back in. You will have to make sure you do a thorough clean in the evening to avoid cavities. I also go to the hygienist every 3 months and last time she saw me she indicated once every 6 months is fine with me (dentist check up also came back ok). So no cavities so far.
@@REDinitial I’m a slow eater as well and have been concerned about this! My trays are almost ready! Just to confirm, after snacking, you don’t always brush before you put them back in? I take it you swish with water? I’m thinking of just swishing with water and chewing some xylitol gum for a minute before putting aligners back in if I’m away from home. I’m glad it’s going well for you!
I’ve come on here to warn people. I had Invisalign done about 6 years ago with a Dentist. I wish I had gone to an Orthodontist. There’s a huge difference between the two. The dentist missed some pathology that the ortho picked up, also my teeth hadn’t been contoured correctly. You wouldn’t be able to tell there was anything the matter but I can feel food packing and I’ve been unhappy for years. The orthodontist I have now is accurately aligning my teeth and my gums are more symmetrical on either side! I have train tracks now and I wish I just done this years ago!!
Best advice ever! People need a proper orthodontist and train track braces. They finish and detail every tooth, you get a perfect midline, perfect arches, beautiful straight teeth, looking the best they possibly can. How can an Invisalign tray, push and pull teeth into position? How can it pull impacted canine teeth down into the correct position? I'd recommend traditional metal braces every time.
@@richardburns5925 My braces came off last week and my teeth look amazing. I have a perfect midline bite (used strings), they were misaligned before. No food packing :) My Orthodontist suggested to have bonded retainers too and he did such a good job, i don't even feel them.
@@sonasp1961 so pleased! I wore braces and arch expanders for nearly 5 years and now wear bonded retainers indefinitely, I've got lovely wide arches with perfect super straight teeth, perfect midline, it's just nice to have confidence and an attractive smile. If your retainers ever let go or come loose, get them re bonded soon as possible, our teeth can soon relapse and go out of alignment!
It seems like here in Russia invisalign is approximately two times more expensive then the braces. I guess that's thanks to the fact invisalign has its own patent and to get the true invisalign it must be ordered and shipped from America.
@@GluckOrthodontics of course! Like you mentioned, it’s important to only take the leap when you’re able to be dedicated to it. I definitely wasn’t ready to start fixing my teeth and was noncompliant with my Invisalign treatment. Better to get braces and not chance it lol

@@javonnilewin2247 I just got my bottom wisdom tooth (last one) and even after 13 days it still hurts a lot. I hope nothing is wrong. My surgeon saw me yesterday and said it looks fine. Getting a second opinion tomorrow. Did you get braces yet??
@@m.offord4836 Got same issue and I'm 33, did you find any solution? I read online that Invisalign is quite expensive starting from 2000£ and needs to take out every time to eat.
Same here lol I’m getting my 4 wisdom teeth out then next step is get my teeth straightened. My issue with braces is that after they’re out I’m worried about the staining from the ceramic metal on the teeth
At my orthodontist Invisalign was still significantly more expensive. My orthodontist also does lingual braces, but no one ever mentions those. I think if your estimated treatment is more than a year, I would go with traditional braces. A lot of the cons fade quickly, and the ease of not having to do much in between appointments matters in the long run. I feel like at some point you could just wear the braces indefinitely. I have Essex, and Hawley, retainers now and I feel like a lot of the restrictions on snacking as well as the general feeling of having your teeth completely incased is a huge downside. I made the right choice. Also, I had a cross bite and my orthodontist felt that unless I really wanted Invisalign, traditional braces would be better. I really like my results, no jaw surgery needed!
My first few months with braces were a breeze. Once my ortho started having me use rubber bands they were an annoying, painful bitch. More than once I woke up crying and screaming at night because my rubber bands were pulling my teeth so tightly I just couldn’t take the pain. Is it more work to take care of aligners? Yes. But I’ll take that inconvenience over never having to put a rubber band on my teeth again. For added context, I have genetically fragile enamel, but my teeth were deemed strong enough for treatment. My enamel has led me to have every “standard” procedure imaginable. I’ve had caps/crowns, more fillings than I can count, extractions, sealants, and even root canals. Not a single one of those compared to the absolute agony of braces with rubber bands. Do I regret my experience? Not at all. Would I ever do it again? I think I’d rather die lmao
@@EmmieHunny Rubber bands didn’t bother me that much. They hurt at first, but that fades. I think they’re much more painful the less consistently you wear them. I wore mine 24/7 pretty much. I had a co-worker who also remembered rubber bands being hell, but once I got them I didn’t see what the big deal was and at one point I think I had an elaborate pattern of almost 5 or 6. Also if you need rubber bands than you wear them with the clear aligners as well.
@@JessieBanana I wore mine 24/7 too, but I had triangles and squares and ones that stretched across to “fix” my cross bite at the same time. The cross band wouldn’t let me close my teeth and the shapes demanded I close them to get any shred of relief from the pain of the pressure. I wasn’t getting that shred of relief. It was just plain torture.
@@EmmieHunny I guess everyone is different. I had the same one to fix my cross bite and I didn’t have that experience. I did chew through a ton, so I did close my mouth. I had to replace them all the time. My ortho gave me as many as I wanted though.
I got invisalign almost 5 years ago now, I'm still on them and it feels like the biggest mistake I've ever made. Was originally quoted that the treatment would last 18 months, I had a very minor straightening only for the bottom row, and invisalign was recommended for the job. Fast forward to now, I got them in high school, recently graduated university, and there's no end in sight. I've been left using the same old plates for months because the manufacturing process takes MONTHS for any new sets, bottom row treatment quickly became top row as well, as jaw misalignment began to occur. Originally on an x axis, but now I'm starting to get misalignment where I can now poke my tongue through the gap! If you want trustworthy treatment that nobody can mess up for you, literally just get braces, don't trust plastic, especially when you need to use over the counter toothpaste because invisalign actively yellows your teeth by keeping everything trapped against your teeth for hours at end! Don't make the same mistake as me, by the amount of misalignment I have going on now, it'll most likely be 8 years of plastic.
Right, I wish I never got Invisalign. I made the mistake of getting Invisalign with my dentist, not thinking that it would be better to go to an orthodontist. I got Invisalign because my teeth were a little crooked but nothing major- just some minor adjustments. My main concern was that two of my bottom teeth would sometimes cut into my tongue and I wanted that fixed. My dentist told me this is a very minor fix and that Invisalign will send them everything they need to straighten my teeth and I’ll just need to come in periodically to check in and make sure everything is going on track. When Id go in for my checkups he wouldn’t say what he was doing he just helped himself to use a sort of drill to file BETWEEN my teeth! By the time he started filing it was too late for me to stop him because it already had started. After this happened twice on both “check ups” I told him I don’t want anymore of my teeth filed down because I actually love the shape of my top teeth, my main concern was my BOTTOM teeth- I don’t need all this extra work down on my top teeth. He said don’t worry it’s very minor spaces between my teeth and my smile will actually look bigger once they adjust the setting of my teeth. Well he filed between ALL of my front TOP teeth because “with Invisalign that is how we make room to allow your teeth to straighten.” Because he did that I have a smaller smile now. I used to love my smile even though it was a little crooked. I liked the idea of my teeth being shifted into a straighter position but I did NOT want my teeth to be filed down to be SMALLER. Now I have much smaller front teeth and I feel robbed of my smile. Just writing this for people interested in Invisalign to go an orthodontist and ask exactly what the process will be like. I later found out that my dentist didn’t HAVE to file between all my front teeth, he just thought it would b a nicer look if he reshaped my teeth. So extremely disappointed. Really really wish I never did Invisalign with my dentist.
Jenna Keliikuli that was the dead giveaway for me, my dentist seemed like they were trying to force me to get invisisalign. Definitely not doing it now
I had metal braces as a kid and didn’t wear my retainers. My teeth have been shifting ever since! I can squeeze my 2 front teeth together and actually feel them slightly move. Anyway, if I still lived in Nashville I’d totally come to you!
Finished Invisalign now so it’s too late but looking back my dentist never suggested any other option, it just seemed Invisalign was the way to go. I got a further 7 weeks of refinement for my lower teeth but I had to suggest that, I felt he wasn’t worried what happened, he had his money and wanted the treatment to end soon. Just my thoughts looking back
I love my Invisalign. It was the right choice for me. I’m on tray 15 out of 18 comprehensive. Fingers crossed that I won’t need too many refinements! 🤞🏼
That's awesome!! Keep it up! And don't worry about refinements...they are usually a part of most patient's treatment, to make sure things get finished properly.
@@GluckOrthodontics My progress has been amazing. My orthodontist is my biggest “cheerleader!” Invisalign was the right choice for me. I love that nobody can tell that I’m wearing aligners. ♥️♥️♥️
I wore Invisalign for two years. Then after the treatment I received retainers but I kept losing them. I would try to order another retainer but my orthopedic kept having me make additional appointments with them to retake scans and order another set of retainers for $350+ My problem that no one can seem to answer and make it make sense is, why can’t I order my original retainers so if my teeth shift a little bit while waiting for them in the mail my retainers will kind of put them back from the minor shift? However if we only get new retainers for every time we misplaced or lose them gradually they are shifting back and I feel like I’m being set up to have to under go another treatment with them because after the scan I still have to wait for them to come in the mail anyway 🤷🏽♀️. And the process I’m my area seems to be 4.5k - 6k. I paid 5.5k for my treatment. I was extremely happy with my progress until after my treatment and having to deal with the way I get new retainers. Have ANYONE experienced this? I’ve decided to schedule some consultations with other orthopedists and inquire about the upkeep of braces after the treatment. I wasn’t 100% happy with how my teeth looked without the Invisalign.
This is so helpful! I’ve been really thinking about this and what to do, thanks Dr. Jono! Beating my younger self up for not keeping up with my retainer after getting my braces off way back when. Thinking it’s time to come full circle and come see y’all!
Most of the orthos back then told us we could throw out our retainers after wearing them for a year or two! I faithfully wore mine as instructed, then stopped, because I trusted the expert…. Now $5K later, I’m getting Invisalign as an adult. 70% of the patients here are adults, and 50% had braces as a kid with an ortho who told them the same thing I was told. I don’t get how so many orthos were wrong.. it’s crazy.
They work well once u get used to them. Make sure your dentist doesn’t let I lapse longer than two weeks for your new aligners or your teeth will start moving back like my dentist did. I waited two months till my next set of aligners were ready? Then I had to start the process all over again after wearing them for 8 months. Also, prepare to start clenching your teeth a lot while wearing them and start noticing facial mouth lines like jowls appearing along each side of your mouth. The teeth quenching is very common?
I think the cost of Invisalign is still more expensive than braces. At least from where I am now - Bangkok, Thailand. When I compared the price, it’s at least twice the amount of money needed for Invisalign vs Damon braces.
I’m in invisalign and I’m so over it 😩 it’s been 2.5 years because I had an impacted canine. Got my first set of 30 aligners just to make space for the canine, then got my baby canine pulled and got exposure & bonding surgery on the impacted adult canine, wore brackets and gold chain on some of my teeth for around 10 months, then got back in my trays! I still have 16+ to go, but almost there, just have to wear rubber bands at night to help bring down my canine 🥴 if I could redo it all, I’d pick metal braces!
Love this comment. Impacted canines are one type of case that we strongly recommend be treated with braces for this reason. Aligners are not great at “pulling mechanics” and while it’s possible to add some other things, like the rubber bands, this whole process can be inefficient and treatment will take too long.
i had perfectly straight teeth before getting my braces and only needed to fix a super mild underbite, and i’m 2.5 years in, so don’t stress out much honestly. if i could go back i’d choose invisalign lmao
@@cH73737 They will hurt the first couple of days and hurt after the first couple of wire changes but you will eventually get used to it and often forget you even have them on.
had mine for 3 years and getting them off june 16th i am so so happy to see my teeth again! i also can’t wait to jsut brush my teeth and not have to worry about it
Patience is a virtue. I am 12 months into my 20 month sentence with Damon. I am still in round wires and I'm starting the rectangle wires soon. I feel like I haven't seen any changes in the last 5 weeks and I know I need to trust the process. Can't help but be curious if Invisalign could help the small details since 80% of the problem has been corrected for my crowding. I already paid off my Damon braces so I think if I wanted to switch now, I would have to pay full price for the Invisalign with no credit applied from what I already paid ($4650)
I’ve had invisilign for 1.5 years and when they fixed my spacing, my bite would get thrown off. When they fixed my bite, my spacing would get thrown off. Went into traditional braces for 2.5 yearsish. They gave me invisilign retainers and my teeth started spacing after wearing them day and night with the exception of eating. I was so angry after the ortho insisted that they are better than Hawley retainer. They did not understand why. I recommend traditional. Metal is better than plastic. I feel that for bite issues, people shouldn’t be recommended plastic invisilign.
I have done both; invisalign for a couple months and currently on braces as refinement. Invis is definitely worth it if you can afford. Pain when you chew food and loss of taste really take out one of life enjoyment. I can understand why some panic and ask Ortho to take them off after s few days, least I already got used to the small pain from Invisalign.
I finished my invisalign trays two years ago, I wear the retainer every night. It took maybe a year to 18 months to be able to wear the retainer less and less during the day. But my teeth always move the longer the retainer is out. I wish I'd known this and understood why. I can't find any information about if this is always going to happen or if its every going to stabilise.
You need to wear your retainers the whole life, otherwise it will move. I have an idea that I think would work, having snap on veneer to make your teeth perfect and white that could act as retainer and having perfect white smiley teeth, lol. It only cost $580
I love how he seems to show as much teeth as he can when he speaks. I mean, his vowels are so bright. I think it makes him more articulate. Nice one, Doc Jono! 👍
Not everyone should get invisilign. I was told by 2 orthodontists that invisilign would not do a top notch job compared to braces due to over crowding in my teeth. Best to get more than one consultation.
Just got my braces in last week, and those first few days were miserable with pain, but right now i dont even feel like they’re in anymore. Now just gotta wait for a wire change where i am expecting more pain 😔
Thank you for the video. I am an adult who has finally decided to get my teeth fixed (alignment and repair of two chipped front teeth). When I asked my dental hygienist to refer me to an orthodontist, she suggested I first see the dentist, for whom she works, because he also performs orthodontic treatment using ClearCorrect aligners. When reviewing the digital impressions and input from the laboratory, he explained everything to me about the process, and said that he would, during several different visits, do slicing/IPR by shaving a tiny amount of the enamel between several different teeth in order to make space for those teeth to move. He says he will not shave enough to cause harm (sensitivity, pain, more prone to cavities, etc.). As I am not very keen on having any of the enamel shaved on my teeth, my question now is whether it is possible to create sufficient space by doing something else such as further expanding the mouth arch or slowly moving teeth back a little towards the last molars to make space available in the rest of the mouth (I had my wisdom teeth extracted many years ago). Thank you in advance for your response.
You forgot the sixth “C”….. when Invisalign tries to “CUT” out the dentist and sell directly to the patient. Amazingly there are patients that fall for that to save some money. Great video, Doc.
I got the dental plan to see what could be done about my gaps and a crooked tooth. Invisalign can only move front teeth. They would close the gap and fix one crooked tooth but essentially create a huge gap between my canine and first molar. So large it would look like I'm missing teeth vs now where my gaps aren't huge, just spaced out.
I’m one year into Invisalign. I had over 10 cavities so far (I never did have before, only when younger). I feel discomfort all the time and I had to get them redone about 3-4 times so far
Oh no!! That’s terrible-I’m so sorry to hear that! Are you able to brush & floss right away after eating? Maybe a WaterPik would help you? Or swishing with some xylitol! I hope things get better. 🙏🏻
After Invisalign is there an option besides a lingual wire for a retainer. I hate the idea of having to floss under it, that why I choose Invisalign over braces.
Thanks for this video! Your smile is EVERYTHING; it was all I was looking at☺️. I'm so insecure about my class III bite and will be starting my journey with Invisalign in August! I have an anterior shift which Orthodontist said is a very good thing! I'm excited!
Great question! It really depends on the treatment. Sometimes we just using Invisalign for patients with gum recession because we can customize the movements to keep things as safe as possible.
@@GluckOrthodontics Thanks for the quick reply. I have gum recession and already scheduled an appointment with a periodontist before having the appointment with the orthodontist. I was advised to do that so the periodontist can see if the gum treatment should happen prior to the braces or Invisalign. I hope they can find the best solution to not have my gum recession worsen. Thanks again.
@Mariana Bardosa Silva Hi, I'd like to know what option did you choose traditional braces or Invisalign as I have really crooked teeth and gum recession as well. I am going to see a periodontist soon. My orthodontist has advised me to get Invisalign but I have my doubts if it would work on my crooked teeth. Thanks
Why does nobody mention the rubber band attachments they put on your teeth. I have 4 visible metal attachments along with the buttons for the trays. Looks pretty bad cosmetically. Not too concerned with it because I just want my teeth fixed, just wish I knew this previously.
Thanks for the question! We often use the metal buttons on back teeth that you can't see, and clear buttons for rubber bands on the front teeth. Or, the doctor can program the aligners to have hooks instead of buttons. There are a few choices. You may ask your orthodontist to see if they can change it up to one of these other options.
Gluck Orthodontics yes maybe should ask, currently I have two visible metal attachments on the front bottom teeth. From everyone I’ve seen with Invisalign my attachments are different.
ive never gotten braces before but im at the point where its the perfect time to get them, but i never wanted them done bc it just sounded like a lot of work (i probably sound dramatic, im sorry) and it sounds painful, but then i found out about invisalign and my parents wantme to do research on it to see if its worth it, maybe i can convince them with this video
@@thehottake8197 Best is all patient-specific. What is important to you when you think about your treatment? Time? Price? Comfort? Convenience? Esthetics? Thinking through those things will help narrow down the decision.
@@GluckOrthodontics price is important. Also I am a working professional but my dentist recommended Invisalign because he said I won’t need much time and the price is about the same. Comfort is also very important.
I had braces 5 years ago, and my doctor Algarve an allignerà after I took it off, I put that thing on for 3 or 4 days and I let that thing collect dust after that, I also did a stupid thing after a year putting it in wondering if it fit and it got stuck, but thank god I found a way to take it off without chipping or breaking anything
Great video! Very informative! Thank you! Question: I have some bruxism during the night. Is one method of treatment preferred for a patient like myself who wears a night guard?
That’s a great question. If your night guard is custom fitted, then you may not be able to wear it during treatment because your teeth are going to move. For patients who brux at night, we usually recommend aligners because the plastic will provide some form of protection of the teeth from grinding.
Hello Dr. I’m planning to get braces/Invisalign but I haven’t been to the dentist since my adolescent years. I’m 28 years old now and finally have the financial necessities to get them. But I don’t know what to do first or what do you recommend I should get? Thank you.
Awesome question! Our suggestion is to schedule a visit to the General Dentist first, for a comprehensive exam and cleaning. You may need to have some dental work completed first. That would be the top priority. Once all of that is done, then you can see the orthodontist about a consultation. Have a great day!
@@GluckOrthodontics thank you my appointment for a general dental examination is tomorrow. I’ll keep you and anyone that is on the same boat as I am updated.
I am first tray of Invisalign right now. For me this so frustrating. Everytime needs to take out and clean while drinking and eating. I can't eat whatever I like. I am skinny guys and looks like I am loosing my weight. I am confused I don't know how I am going to complete this Invisalign journey 😔.
@Dr. Jono.. hi and thank you for this detailed video. A few other C's come to mind like circumstance and complexity as to which would be the better option. Are there any cases when a patient just would not be a candidate for aligners?
im 15 and still haven't gotten braces and I'm going next month and im kinda scared and I want to get Invisalign but also don't know. because I don't want a bunch of metal in my mouth. HELP
It will hurt the first couple of days and the first couple of times you get the wires replaced but eventually you will get used to it. I also suggest getting a waterpik water flosser to help clean between your braces and teeth. You are lucky, i had to get braces, a palate expander and rubber bands.
I’m almost 5 months in and metal braces are uncomfortable & awkward at the beginning but with some time you don’t even realize they’re in! It’s worth it in the long run!
Great video. I’m on week 12 of 17 of Invisalign. I definitely see a difference. I was a teen when I had braces. I had permanent retainers, but stopped wearing my removable ones. That resulted in some slight spacing on the sides of my smile. All the orthodontist/dentist I went to said that Invisalign was pretty accurate in moving teeth. But, they did say that braces are better in some more difficult cases. I think it’s because with Invisalign, every patient should have in mind that there may be a refinement cycle after your first cycle of aligners. For me, Invisalign should only be done for cases that are a year or less. I can’t see wanting to wear aligners for years upon years. All the teeth brushing, remembering to switch aligners, taking them out when you drink stuff other than water etc. it comes with a lot. There’s pros and cons to both!
Hey doctor I got my first molar remove and I have an impacted canine on the left , which solution would be best and can the molar gap be filled without an implant. I also have a slight crossbite Im 17
Hello there, I had brackets / bracers before when I was a teenager. My teeth were ok but I lost my retainers and my teeth got slightly crooked again. I’m debating on getting Invisalign or brackets put back in. What would you say is better to use for someone like me who had metal brackets before. What’s more effective?
You're correct! That would be the ultimate cosmetic option! Most orthodontists do not offer them due to the complexity of treatment, difficulty working on the inside of the teeth, and lack of patient comfort. That said, there are some awesome lingual practitioners out there who do an incredible job!
So if from the very beginning the dentist will have the entire plan for the invisalign, what will happen if my teeth will not improved after completing all the invisalign aligners?
Have braces now… My ortho told me due to me having to turn/twist teeth like my k9’s that braces would get me 100% of completion. When aligners would only get me about 70-75% of “perfect”. This should be a topic of discussion if true.
This is a good point. Canine rotation is a challenging aligner movement. Usually any canine rotation >30 degrees will treat out more predictably with braces and wires.
I'll give you some tips. 1- Best relief is keeping ice cold water in your mouth specificaly wherever is most itchy. Huge relief!!! 2- Pick a side and pull them out from the inner-side of your mouth on your wisdom teeth, and it easily peels off of your teeth. 3- Try to keep ur upper and lower jaw seperated, the less ur trays touch each other, the less u feel ur teeth. I know it is kind of tough but by biting ur trays u make ur teeth and gum more alert and sensitive against pain. Not letting ur trays touch each other helps pretending that they r not there. 4- In my case, on the 4th day (after the 3rd day of teeth, jaw and head aches) I realized it started to cause more pain to not to have them on. So try to keep them on as long as u can. 5- Don't try to give your teeth a moment of relief by taking your trays out even for one second because your teeth lean more on going to where they were rather than stay where they r. So you would cause urself longer periods of pain in return of a second of relief. Peace ✌️ I hope ur experience is less painful and annoying than mine.
You forgot consequence. The problem with using braces (based on my experience) is if brace alignment breaks (especially the wire), chances of getting an injury (with the wires) are unpleasant and can possibly be fatal. That is, if there is serious contact made to the braces. You also forgot cleanliness. If you want to keep your teeth clean and want to floss, then it’s best with an Invisalign and tooth management will be easier to deal with. Plus, it won’t ruin daily habits for just eating food. It’s basically from my experience that I say this.
Great video! Great teeth to mate haha! Starting this Friday I’m 29 needed braces since I was 11 got a overbite then my wisdom teeth came threw sideways and made me have even more of a overbite I thought my jaw would have to get broken I went to a couple of dentists and they said I need braces I wasn’t happy then I found db a great cosmetic dentist surgery and they did proper X-rays and showed me on there latest technology how my teeth will look! I can’t wait! I have always tried to hide my smile or try not to talk or laugh to hide my smile we’ll finally I’m getting them I can’t wait!
2.5 years on Invisalign ruined my bite… all the ortho I saw said I needed braces except for that one that was pushing Invisalign and I chose to go with him …. End result he told me he’ll switch me to traditional braces to fix the mess and I’m now 4 months in with them …. Such a waste of time
Braces worked a lot better for me. They stopped hurting after about 4 days whereas I heard Invisalign stopped hurting/being uncomfortable after about 4-5 months
Not sure where you heard that, but that's definitely not true. For me, my first set hurt kind of badly for about the first 2 days, then I was fine. Each new set is a bit of pressure and maybe a bit of discomfort, but not in a way that impacts my life at all. And honestly I kind of like the pressure, it's like I can feel my teeth moving!
@@russian007royal Hey, sorry about the last response but my treatment is actually just about over now, but it was great! It was around 7 months long for a moderate case, and i've noticed huge changes in my smile, so i definitely recommend!
I am 47 and had braces put on over a year ago. At 16 months the ORTHO assistant said they can come off. I said I felt it was too soon as they had just moved into place and everything I read says 2-3yrs for adults with severe overbite. They took them off despite my request to go another few months. They told me to wear retainer 24/7 for 30 days then 8hrs at night. I got the wire put inside bottom teeth and retainer for the top. I wore retainer as they suggested and 2 months later I noticed them moving. I went back in and asked for retainer for bottom teeth as well. A few months later I noticed they were moving to the point that they looked like they were returning to pre-braces placement. And my retainers felt loose. I called and made appointment and they couldn’t see me for a month. At 7 mths I went in and they said they are definitely moving back. I asked for braces back on and showed them my retainers are soft and feel loose. And now I also have spaces between my teeth and I never had that before in my life. They agreed to give me InvisAlign for top teeth only. Orthodontist said 6 weeks minimum and will re-evaluate. The assistant when I went in to pick up the InvisAlign changed it to 4 weeks and booked my next appointment for 6 weeks. Also I now need 3 root canals and crowns on the teeth that were searing painful when I had braces on. I asked each appointment if I could get them off for a day and get those cavities fixed as I was worried about them. Assistant said no need they will be fine. I’m suspicious that I wasn’t given the proper advice and I know they didn’t give me the retainers made from the strongest plastic as I had asked for as they shouldn’t stretch and become loose in 3 months. What are my options? I made my next appointment with orthodontist personally as I’m concerned that the assistant always changes the treatment the orthodontist tells me.
It’s more convenient for me to wear traditional braces because I don’t have to take them out. I’d rather have more appointments than to have the self-discipline to manage aligners. Living in Boston, I can walk to my orthodontist and my regular dentist. More appointments seems like a greater inconvenience to the orthodontist rather than the patient.
Good points! A lot of people like coming in every 4-6 weeks for us to evaluate their progress. And hey, that's great you live close to your dental providers. Some of our patients drive from far away and really appreciate the convenience of less frequent trips to the office. Either way, it's all good! Hope all is well up in Boston!
I like to eat... A big negative for Invisalign... I get hungry every 3 hours and my partner gets hypoglycemic . .. Don't know if either of us could handle this. Plus those bracket nubs and lisps are very conspicuous;at least with braces people are not trying to figure out what is wrong with you.
Thank you so much for this information. I am getting my teeth done and I wasn't sure what is the difference between the braces and Invisalign. I needed a second opinion and that helped a lot.
Some people stop snacking all together and just eat their usual 2-3 daily meals and thats called the Invisalign Diet lol
have you noticed any difference since you started wearing them? my treatment is abt 16 months so i wanna know if by the 8th ill see any difference lol

Great comment!! Love how you broke down the advantage of braces to your lifestyle!! Good luck!

Which one is actually the best at straightening the teeth? I heard brace are better because they can be fine tuned more precisely.
I'm wondering the same. 🤔
This! 🙌🏻 I just signed up for Invisalign, and this is my main concern-I’ve been considering switching to braces because of this.

I’m a slow eater as well and have been concerned about this!
What about effectiveness?
mid-line deviation, profile, narrow arches. Braces can fix these problems, but I don't think invisalign can.

We do support seeing an orthodontic specialist for orthodontic treatment!
No food packing :)
My Orthodontist suggested to have bonded retainers too and he did such a good job, i don't even feel them.
@@richardburns5925 Fantastic.

It seems like here in Russia invisalign is approximately two times more expensive then the braces. I guess that's thanks to the fact invisalign has its own patent and to get the true invisalign it must be ordered and shipped from America.
it is more expensive than braces in the USA too

This is my exact story! I understand. Wisdom teeth out first, bottom teeth problem, and I’m almost 25 🤭
Well he filed between ALL of my front TOP teeth because “with Invisalign that is how we make room to allow your teeth to straighten.”
Because he did that I have a smaller smile now.

I wore Invisalign for two years. Then after the treatment I received retainers but I kept losing them. I would try to order another retainer but my orthopedic kept having me make additional appointments with them to retake scans and order another set of retainers for $350+
My problem that no one can seem to answer and make it make sense is, why can’t I order my original retainers so if my teeth shift a little bit while waiting for them in the mail my retainers will kind of put them back from the minor shift?

Hannah!! Great to hear from you. We've love to see you. Come on in! :)
I think Invisalign looks very weird when you see them in person.
Weirdly enough no one seems to notice they are in unless I point it out to them.
Impacted canine gang
i had perfectly straight teeth before getting my braces and only needed to fix a super mild underbite, and i’m 2.5 years in, so don’t stress out much honestly. if i could go back i’d choose invisalign lmao

What about torque direction on teeth. It's a completely different basis for shifting teeth for different applications.
Very good point. Torque can be a challenging movement to achieve with an aligners as opposed to brackets where it is designed into the bracket slot.

Thanks for the message! Yes we fully support patients receiving their treatment directly from the Doctor and practice.
is it possible to wear transparent foils for teeth straightening if the front teeth have been endodontically treated and have fillings

That’s a great question. If your night guard is custom fitted, then you may not be able to wear it during treatment because your teeth are going to move.

There is nothing wrong with getting Invisalign. But be sure you trust your dentist. I switched my dentist to be sure i am in good hands.
We are definitely biased, but yes we recommend seeing a Board Certified orthodontist to have treatment.
Hey thanks for the video! What about lingual braces? Wouldn’t that be even a more cosmetic option? Thanks!
Have braces now…
My ortho told me due to me having to turn/twist teeth like my k9’s that braces would get me 100% of completion.
I’m 53 so I’m really not bothered about how it looks…effectiveness, timescale and price are what I’m interested in
You forgot consequence.
Thank you for the comment!
Whoohoo! Thanks for the comment!
@@linajesilow472How long is your treatment and how’s it going so far?
This was precisely my reason for switching to traditional braces.
I like to eat... A big negative for Invisalign... I get hungry every 3 hours and my partner gets hypoglycemic
So which one you getting 😂😂
The Invisalign just because it looks better and os the same price.
Glad to help! Good luck!
I’ve opted for traditional braces. I can’t wait to start the treatment
Yay! So excited for you!
This was so informative and just what I needed. Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
I’m getting Invisalign today
