  • This was an unrehearsed recording to give an idea of how this bass sounds. The bass is recorded flat and with no processing at all into a Boss Micro BR. I recorded the video at the same time, it is not perfectly synced to the audio I am afraid. Further sound sample here • "Deck Chair" Sound Sam...
I bought this new for just £200 as I had wanted a 5 string Precision bass (my first proper bass was a 57 Squier P bass. This bass still needs a bit of a set up which I will do when the strings need changing, so in effect this is almost how it came out of the box (I have tweaked it a bit).
I have also reviewed a Squire Deluxe Active Jazz Bass V

I used part of QuistJam's Jamiroquai E minor Jam track - it is a great channel, please check it out.

I tried out a slightly modified version of one of these today with a Hipshot type A bridge, flatwound strings with EMG P type and a jazz pickup. It was at a bass show so hard to hear the full impact of the changes, but the bridge looked and felt good.

Looking and sounding good Jon. Could you send me over the bass track if you still have it?

How is that low B string? Is it floppy or good tension on it? Seems that most 34 inch scale necks have this problem.

Thanks for your question. I guess it depends on what you are used to and how you string it. I have Several 35" basses and also 34" 5 / 6 strings. I use .125 B strings and it feels OK to me, not the worst I have used. I have basses with better B strings but they cost between 3 and 8 times what I paid for this, and they have carbon reinforced necks, and generally I would not gigging with them. I hope that helps.

Thanks for the response. Kind of riding the fence on buying one. I have a MIA Precision 4 string that I love, but am wanting a 5 string and do not have the cash to do the American Standard version so I thought that this could be something that I could get.

I did try an MIA version some time before I got this one. The finishing was better, but this one feels better to play. hard to say sounded best as I could not try them back to back. I do tend to pick this one up when I just want to play something quickly, it feels comfortably.

Nice bass. Could you get a vintage tone out of this bass? Maybe with different strings...

+Switch McGee Hi - I should have said that the bass had the tone on full treble, if you roll it off it does sound more "Old School". My preference is for a round wound string tone (these are the factory fitted ones), I am sure some sort of flat string would achieve a more vintage tone. I usually play 2 pick up basses which I find are more flexible but none of them sound quite like a Precision Bass. This is an affordable 5 string Precision so all the things you might do to a 4 string P bass would probably work on this as well.

That colour was never sold. Was it?

+Frans van den Berge It was how I bought it and I think the official Fender demo used one that colour. For some reason this was cheaper than the other colours when I bought it so it might not have been a popular choice.

It's Candle Apple red, but under certain lighting like this video it looks orange. I got mine for 150$ a year or two ago. I love the maple neck on it.

    does this bass have neck-dive?

    • @ProfessorOnBass
      @ProfessorOnBass  8 ปีที่แล้ว

+J as in Jalapeño. Hi I have not noticed any significant neck dive compared to any other bass I use. The bass is pretty light compared to my other basses which makes it comfortable to wear. I use a neoprene Comfort Strapp for heavier basses and have used that with this bass and is really comfortable. The neoprene tends to cling to you clothes which also tends to reduce neck dive. I hope that helps - I have added the link to a video showing my other basses in case you can compare this with anything you have used. th-cam.com/video/Qa6QnNqpkak/w-d-xo.html

    Agathis body?

To be honest I am not sure what body it is, it feels relatively light, but not in a bad way (to me at least).
