Nolan, I'm glad you stepped up as the de facto leader of the Donut team now, though I'm not gonna lie that I miss James, Jeremiah and Zach. Wishing for future success for all of you!
I think I’ve seen more of Jobe post leaving Doughnut
It’s just not the same
@@iancarrey4123prerecorded videos
Nolan has been the defacto co-host with James for a long time. He had the second major series with wheel house. If theres anyone who's earned top spot, it's Nolan
Him and the entire team has stepped it up since all of that went down and they started receiving a ton of negative feedback.
It's been mentioned several times about the alternator issue with the ranger.
You don't have enough amperage from the alternator. You're trying to provide 200~230 amps through a OEM 145 amp. Thus resulting in it burning out.
Look at the data sheets for every electronic you have on the ranger and add up the amperage each takes. Every little amperage adds up. Radio, water pump, fuel pumps, ECU,, ancillary equipment.
Exactly either gonna need double alternators or one high output alternator. These setups can be quite common in many low riding or in endurance racing(dirt or asphalt) to keep electronics running and batteries charged
Make sense to me. Thank you for explaining
@@NUGGET-vi1lt Saw someone in the OG video mention Cadillac alternators as they're nicely weather sealed and have solid high output options
Wild they haven’t figured this out yet , coming from subwoofers ; a high output alt is imperative
@@rhowe154 They can take some notes from the car audio people...maybe a Mechman 400 amp, just saying ;)
Donuts ability to take cars worth almost nothing, dump thousands of dollars into the car and somehow make them less reliable is something.
Truly is 😂
That's how most project cars go bud
That ad is so ironic (and sketchy)...
Truly an unmatched skill
It's honestly a talent
Befor hitting the desert again I would convert LowTruck to a ShopTruck. With all the tools that you need to fix the BlueRanger in the field.
Low truck AND high truck are always around in just about every video they do
That would actually make for a really good series, making an off-road utility work truck.
@@CrazyIrishmen7 not only that. also for track days etc.
@@CaliKrome yeah but high truck is to nice for that. And you need one car to transport people.
@@rexmcstiller4675 they have the green 4runner for that and the camera gear

“This year has been insane”
Understatement
even the word understatement would be an understatement
@@kaifkefayatI see what this guy did 😂
The fact that we've seen and still see both Hi-truck and Lo-truck in other videos is a testament to how well-built they are.
What more could you ask for from Toyota trucks? Well, the older ones at least.
Seeing James appear in a flashback feels so close to seeing a ghost
I love this teardown of the cars from the year but its just sad to see only Nolan doing this.
The friendly banter between all of them from last year was so amazing to watch.
Man I forgot how it was last year. That’s depressing but I’m happy to see donut revived and alive with a new era of host and ideas
Lol at advertising Draft Kings one day and debt consolidation the next day
That's synergy, baby!
Perfectly balanced like all things should be
I'm surprised they mentioned James for once.
To sound like a douche, I don’t know how much he was really brining to the table anymore. I love his up to speeds but watching his channel now it’s just fashion and lifestyle now and I’m not for it. I wish him success but I already unsubscribed. Big time I’m still following and loving what they put out apart from the drive around videos. They have their moments in those, but it’s my least favorite stuff they make.
Tristan’s stuff is awesome and I hope they continue to just work on cars and do less and less blog post/engage bait stuff .
@@WalterMootz speeed is cool but its like more story telling. i mean he does what he likes. cant expect car stuff always.
i havent watched his video in a while cause i got bored of the 50min videos first one were cool but thne i got bored. still subbed just dont watch.
big time is cool :) its a bit like car trothle. now is auto alex + auto alex v2, and all the gears and tdc, and actually TDC do alot of cool stuff with cars, autoalex doesnt upload much, but on the v2 channel his friend uploads. but all the gears, they moved away from car stuff mainly. so i watch them less but still make it interesting.
every one does there thing. some like what they did befor and will keep doing it other do something els
The Blaster definitely feels like a Ship of Theseus type situation
Lol I feel like that's just how a ranger build is gonna be. It's not much from the factory. Purpose built to be a beater.
I've got plans to turn mine into a drifter, and most of what it was stock is likely to no longer exist, the way I've got things planned.
Like he said. There's hardly any original parts on it. Is it even the same truck?
IMO, the soul of a car belongs in its chassis. You can swap the engine, put a whole new bodykit (as long as it's not touching the main frame on a unibody), have a sick suspension setup and everything. But the limit is taking the cabin and putting it on a F150 chassis for example. You can't call it the same car anymore. It's just a shell on top of the guts of another car
@guillaumejoop6437
..... but what if you box the frame and add a tube frame over top for safety and rigidity, and you tie in the suspension to that?
You haven't gotten rid of the original ladder frame. Is it still the same rig then?
Therein lies the whole point of the ship of theseus thought experiment.
Honestly, I'd say as long as you've used oem spec parts, it's "basically stock" and anywhere past that just exists on a spectrum. I think trying to define a single point where it's suddenly something new doesn't make any sense.
My heart skipped a beat when you pointed to Low Z, to this day it's still my alltime favorite build you guys have ever made, i am SO stoked you have something planned for it still. Can't wait!!
Forgot the hi-low RC cars 😢
What a wild year for you guys. I get that its an uncertain new era without most of our usual faces, but I'm seriously rooting for you guys. Nolan stepping up, and Jimmy, Steph, Tristan, Heber, Sandro, and the rest of the new gang fully taking the torch gets me really excited. I hope you guys learned the correct lessons and bring us sick, new NEW Donut content!!!
cant wait for the next Hi Low next year!
i guess its gonna be a silvia i see 2 on 16:03
Lol I thought it would involve rally racing
You know what? You should bring back those "win this car if you can fix it" videos, you could make like 10 of those with this budget alone
The corporate overlords that own donut say no
@scandaleux well if they care that much about money, they should listen, i guess
I can see why, cars are expensive
Didn't go far enough, we need to make donut a real competitor in Baja.
That awesome piece of machinery cannot go unused and unimproved! We must do more!!
Also guys, try and make an episode with Richard Hammond and his crew. It could be fun.
A Donut, DriveTribe & AutoAlex collab! I could die happy.
@Sebastian001 donut wrecks enough cars on their own, they don't need any help from the Hamster 🤣
I agree they went far with the build but not Baja racing lengths. Basically they build a “low budget” version of a full blown race truck. They spend $150k to compete with quarter million to half million dollar trucks.
Hopefully that makes sense to people.
Ps I still enjoyed the build series, they did great work and refinement but I think they made an amazing weekend warrior but not a true “race truck”.
I love this year's car disassembly, but it's unfortunate that only Nolan is doing it.
The amicable banter amongst them all from last year was great to behold.
A lot of times LS swaps will overdrive their alternators and you need an undriven one. Powermaster sells one. The alternator Holley sends with their accessory drives still burns out because of this regularly. It could just be your pulley in the end.
the Baja Truck was my favourite Project this year by far, it really had that kick watching the videos when you know its actually going to race in the dessert. Hoping to see more of it next year. Also the frs was a blast watching. Thanks for keeping me entertained
All the backseat mechanics aside, a first time desert racer crossed the finish line under its own power. I really hope no one expected this build to be perfect the first time out.
Next HiLow season should be sleeper builds tho
Mini Van Sleeper Builds
@UrbanLegend2k11 that would be sick tho
People talking trash about spending tons of money on the Ranger and it’s still broken don’t know anything about desert racing and prerunners. One thing you have to know about desert trucks is that things break, cut and dry.
Nolan, thanks for keeping Donut relevant and awesome. Was nervous how things were changing and didn't want donut to crash and burn.
putting an ad a bout living debt free after talking about the ranger is Hilarious
PSA: Subaru 5MT (5 speed manuals) give up the ghost at roughly 300-320 WHP under hard driving. (Launching, Hooning, Shenanigans).
If you are driving a WRX with anything close to 400 WHP you need to have a very light and progressive foot on your throttle. You're just asking to smoke them little gears. :P
It was fun watching this build, especially hearing James May’s thoughts on it!
It was cool to see the James May visit!
Jobe absolutely killed that lap in the BMW. That was beautiful.
Admittedly was a bit worried when a bunch of people started leaving donut this year, but the videos have been so damn good. Stoked to see what 2025 has in store.
Those are some wicked drifts in the e36, Best clips of 2024 for sure along with Adam's in the drifting video
Nolan you are the only reason I’m still watching donut and looking at all the old clips damn I miss the boys
Maybe you need better grounding for the alternator
Someone in he comments of the Baja video said it's an amperage issue
@tonytralalala if that was the case after the second failure should have bought a stronger alternator.
Grounded to the ground
Nolan’s the goat for stepping up and being such an invested and knowledgeable host🫡
0:17 cutting to the ranger video while talking about successes is a bold choice
Props to you Nolan for taking the reins and leading the horse in what could have been very dark times. All the best to everyone at Donut!
PDS debt ads on a Donut video is high level target marketing. “We put $150,000 into this Ford Ranger and you can too!”
JOBE YOU ANIMAL!!!!! EAT EAT EAT! I love it! Spank that throttle!
So I'm guessing with the natural driver talent you have at Donut and these cars just looking for use you guys are going to do a series on rookie competitions?
Also with all of this build footage, a good way to get some of that juicy juicy watch time monies would be to compile them into single longform videos for those that like background white noise.
I'd watch em while I do house chores. Just sayin. ;)
Also, if you're planning on visiting AZ again. My Father has a gorgeous 67 Camaro he is restoring and an amazing story to tell if you'd like to interview. Tasteful beautiful machine, and a man with an amazing story and book to share. Lots of fun stories he could share with yens too. He doesn't want money, just wants to share his story. Connecting with some of your viewers might be a great source of some content to expand on.

Ain't no budget for a subbie rally car. Not sure if a general audience is down for SCCA rallycross. Though it's fun as hell to do
Love my boy Nolan. Donut, give this man a raise if you haven't already. One of the last OGs there and he deserves to be compensated as such. I love the rest of the crew but at this point, i watch this channel for Nolan, no diddy
I watch because of Nolan only
7:57 "Enterprising employee"
You heard him! Show some love for the EF!
No.
Looking forward to the rally builds!!
Nolan as seemingly big boss taking the lead on projects is great, he really puts a lot of care into stuff and the videos always turn out great
10:40 got my like 🤙
I liked the video, looked at your comment, looked at the time and realized I did the exact same thing lol
The only thing i thought was impractical was the LSK. Considering 6100 Trophy trucks are running a LS3, you had more power than you could use and the extra weight of the iron block hurt the handling of a truck that needs rear weight bias to go fast. Hoping to see it evolve and run again.
15:08 "the blow off valve turned into a blew off valve" made me laugh quite hard
6:43 The carbon fiber hood on the stang is absolutely lethal in this photo
Add an independent rear suspension brace on the red rocket and you have a ten second car
9:58
I remember my first Donut video being Ryan Tuerck drifting that Toyorarri, and this sequence took me right back to that. Love the shows and hosts, but maybe there's space for more plain sick raw race/drift footage in 2025?
I’m glad your going to keep the off-road stuff going
The fact that you finished is impressive enough. Bad ass!
Hope to see the ranger back in 25 and participate in another desert race. Get that thing back out there and racing.
Very well built. it doesn't overheat. Besides the alternator that overheats.
I would say that it's running too many cooling fans to run on 1 alternator.
The EF deserves some love 🥳
What a rollercoaster of a year it was for Donut. I met y’all at the Donut car meet at the Peterson Automotive Museum earlier in the year. Can’t wait to see what’s in store for next year, hopefully another car meet! 🍩🍩🍩
Hey guys ever thought of trying Dakar? That would be an awesome challenge
So many channels have fallen apart and i though donut was going to when every one was leaving but yall are killing it. Nolan, you are the face of donut now. Dont change, we watch you cause of how you were and how passionate you arelokeep up the good work donut team!!
Donut and big time upload at the same f time
Ohhh nooo I couldn’t live without knowing that information 😂
Alternator issue is your temp sensor in the desert. The temp sensor lowers the voltage output of the alternator when hot via the computer. Cut the sensor out and put a resistor in its place to make it constantly charge at 14V.
Either you don't spend enough or you spend too much. People complain about everything
California mindset: wallet first, ingenuity second
The Baja blaster video was so good, happy to hear that there will be future videos of it. Honestly enter that thing into every race you can!
Great comment Nolan about the mustangs. You should have been naming the Hi.Low cars over the years.
seeing Nolan grow into this version of himself over the years has been a treat, I look forward to seeing more of Nolan in a leading role at Donut
I hope you guys keep trying to make this trophy truck better I actually enjoy watching these videos the process struggling and then learning from it.
Thanks for a fun year of videos even as Donut was going through a transition. Seeing all the different car scenes was a treat and I appreciate the old faces that are getting more shine and the new faces that have joined!
I think the real question is here, did I go too far with my diesel Datsun mini truck on 15x10’s that’s falling apart at the seams? Maybe. Is it fun and hilarious to see? YES! Love the build donut!
Thank you for everything Donut. Love you guys. Thank you for reiginiting my love of cars again. You guys got me through super tough times. But it’s not the same anymore. How you guys handled everything was very unprofessional and heartbreaking. I will still rep the merch and keep screaming “A MO POWA BEBE” and “HRSPRS”. But I am sadly abandoning ship, and switching to BigTime. The REAL car and Automotive Guys. Thank you for all the memories
Let’s go donut upload
man no joke. I feared Donut would go down, yet I am very glad and impressed that yall have managed to turn this around and not stopping. Much appreciated!
It's tough NOT to go overboard when you have unlimited budgets and sponsorships. You rapidly get out of the range anything can relate to and end up building a trophy piece. A LOT of TH-camr fall into that same trap.
This newest Mustang build off was pretty dang great though, keeps things SEMI relatable to the normal folks out here watching and wanting to build something to play with.
Looking forward to the new generation of Donut really hitting it's stride!
It was a great year of watching donut. We had all of the old hosts and the new hosts at the same time. Some cool builds and another season of hi low. Gonna miss James, Jerry and Jobe but im glad you guys still make good videos that I enjoyed watching.
Love the direction Nolan is taking Donut. Was a little wary of the shift with James and the BigTime Boys leaving the cast, but Nolan's genuine excitement and passion for the projects at hand has me more confident in the future of Donut! I am excited to see what next year brings and hope the team can keep hitting there stride.
His review of the ongoing clapped car project has convinced me to take a look. The newer host had a bit too much intensity for me and scared me off. But hearing Nolans glowing review I am going to give em another chance as as Nolan showcased his work has a lot of real passion behind it.
That's what this channel is all about, and I was just worried it would be taken over by Mr. Beast like hype men with how some of the early transitional videos were edited. But seeing the direction taken in these latest videos, especially with how Nolan and Jimmy have taken on the reigns has me excited for the future.
Its looking like instead of the exodus/breaking up of the band people were expecting, we will be getting a whole new type of content that we wouldn't see had the old hosts remained in the spotlight. That's exciting to see, and I hope this trend continues as that will ensure the changing of the staff has lead to more room for the automotive scene to grow rather than the division people were fearing
Keep up the great work guys!
Nolan, you and your team really did a heck of a job with this video, better yet a good job over the past few months. Looking forward to seeing what’s to come!
I'd say 150k is a good pric bc thats the price of a new raptor, and this is an actual racing truck
Great point, and if they had planned better the cost would have been lower too.
150k USD you could build 1 maybe 2 pretty nice trophy truck here in Australia for that price, Unfortunately their no thinking approach on this produced a pretty Meh truck 😂
This comment is for the drivers:
It's thin, it's snappy. Start to back off once you are in line with the exit.
Just try not to come out of corners sliding. It's not heavy or wide. And it still has really decent grip for is weight, weight distribution, and lack of downforce. This ranger has more grip than you think....however the long but thin wheelbase is similar to a s13.
Think of it like that.
It's like a tall offload 240sx with an alterd weight distribution and alot of grip when it grips....so when it gains traction at the wring time it could want to dig in or gain grip and snap, Just when you trusted it the most.
These are the key points to unlocking the feel and personal connection or familiarity.
That thing is a F@cking machine, no wait its a f@cking ballistic f@cking missile. And I love it. I want to see David's nimbleness to take out Goliaths power and mass.
Go around corners like it has too much torque for the chassis, but take advantage of its ability to change directions quickly, like a little lightweight car does.
Once you understand what that means, you will understand that machine.
And if the battle stays at edge of the seat exciting for a extended time. Its really important to remember that 101th place is faster than a Did Not Finish.
And the guy ahead of you with the faster car will figure that out, when you surpass them near the finish line, because it got too exciting in the front and people crashed.
...hopefully you got what I'm saying.
3:48 Maybe the altornator runs to fast. Maybe you need a diffrent pully.
It may have it's flaws and it may break, but that's what makes it so appealing and that's what can help improve it. Nothing is perfect
You guys should keep investing into the Baja Blaster, and you should continue racing it, improve it, give it that pedigree...
Nolan! The altinator problem might be coming from the metal plates suraunding it. Even if the metal is nonmagnetic it sil makes it harder to induce electricity! The best fix is probebly swaping the metal around the altinator for Carbon fiber!
If you at Donut have already tested this, please confirm my suspicion

YES, I have been asking since the race ended if you would do more racing with the truck, I am excited and looking forward to seeing you fix the issues and get back out there.
Nolan, awesome job this year and congrats on your position at donut. I love watching donut media! I am a big time car nerd out of Detroit. I have always wanted to work with you guys! It looks like you have a great atmosphere at the office. Anyways it seems it has been mentioned before with the alternator but my dad had an rv with some kind of battery isolator which would drop the voltage by 1V. This would cause the alternator to just run all the time. This resulted in constantly changing belts. Anyways an amp meter right at the alternator itself would be helpful. Anyways keep up the good work. Would love to see you guys go on some kind of tour around the country to meet your fans.
Nothing like seeing you laugh while doing an ad lol. There hit or miss for me as far as funny but I’m not knocking the effort at all. Still love donut 💛
This was a hell of a year, Tucson, Baja, Low Rider Miata, yeah 2025, definitely I'm going to still try to find time to watch you all.
2025 has to be the year all these project cars start their own series. Id love to see the cars used for what each project set out to do (daily driver take to track, drift, drag, sand) throughout the whole year and see how well they perform after extended use
The proper way to store those spare wheels and tires if you wanna keep them horizontally is to mount them to the truck with a pole through the center. You ever been to a Gym? See how they have those 45lb plates mounted on the racks. Something like that, but with a threaded hole in the middle of the pipe and a flat plate to screw down onto it to lock the wheels down. And THEN a ratchet strap, through the wheel spokes, as back up.
i’ll believe it when i see it but i really do hope the baja blaster stays in your video line up well into the future. it’s a fun break from typical car stuff + it’s fun to see you guys learn along the way. desert racing is truly a whole different animal of motorsports.
Its fun living vicariously through you guys! I can't build a drift car or desert truck... or a low-rider miata. So getting to see you guys build, f-up, learn, and continue, is why I'm still subscribed. ❤ (only complaint, get to the east coast sometime. Possibly atlanta 🤔) 6:55
Shoutout to Nolan for holding it down. Amazing to see his growth as a host. Excited for what’s to come!
More Drifting and Rally content lets GOOOO!
Hell of a year. Let’s go donut. Let’s go big time. Happy new year y’all
Teams spend years refining their builds and abilities. You guys are out there just doin it. Have fun, fuck shit up, fix it, rinse and repeat. Dont let the haters hate.
While I really enjoyed the most recent version of high/low with the Mustangs, what pains me the most, as a viewer, is what Donut had to go through to return to what we, the audience, came to love about Donut Media. I’m glad that we have Big Time now, and Speeed, but also stoked that we finally have a presenter like Steph on the channel, plus the RMS channel.
So I’ve built a few ls Miata’s and the first one I did had the same issue with the alternator as you guys. The first one I put together the alternator lasted about 45 minutes to an hour. Replaced it and again that one didn’t last long. Ruled it down to a super high resistance in the charge wire due to the wire getting way too hot for current to pass through. The solution was to route it a bit further from the exhaust, up the size slightly and then wrapping the wire in a fiberglass heat shield.
I must say. Jimmy thank you for the adventure time reference in the sponsor segment. It gave me a smile.
Make sure your alternator has a good ground. I powder coated and alternator bracket and had very similar issues. Scuffed the powder coating at the mounting points and fixed the issues. Just something to consider.
Hey I’m incredibly proud of you and the team for putting this capable machine together and actually finishing the race. Long live the Baja Blaster.
