What a wonderful provision for vulnerable individuals who have sacrificed so much, to extend their usefulness and to maintain and share their joy and valuable life experience with the young.
I have been a resident of Legacy Cottages (Jah Jireh in Allentown, PA, USA) for two years. My children and I heartily agree, that there is no safer and spiritually-oriented place in the world. This is especially true in spite of of conditions in the world today. A representative of "Hospice" who gave a nice informative talk at Legacy, commented that from her observation , we residents are enjoying a life comparable to that of a 5-Star resort. FYI - to state that it is a money making business is absurd. By definition it is charitable in nature, but those of us who contribute to our "stay" are sharing in the scriptural principle stated in the first Christian congregation by the apostle Paul at 2 Corinthians 8:14. It was termed an "equalizing of surplus""
doris matteson Thank you for your nice comments. Legacy Cottages is a wonderful place. There are, of course, similar facilities in many other countries of the world, caring for our spiritual brothers and sisters.
Can anyone remember the 1969 Awake article on page 15 where it was prophesied that young people in the organization would never grow old in this system? The article that discouraged higher education? Isn't it ironic that such an aging facility is available, not to mention the cost of $3.6k for aged Jehovah's Witnesses who stayed with low paying jobs to help support the world wide work?
I'm glad you found the video interesting. Jah-Jireh Charity Care Homes is, of course, a charity based in the UK, and is an entirely separate entity to the religious organisation of Jehovah's Witnesses. Individuals and groups in many other countries have been inspired to set up similar ventures to care for elderly Jehovah's Witnesses who need help. Many of them are not-for-profit arrangements, while others are run as commercial enterprises. In whatever manner the care is provided, the residents I have interviewed for these videos have wholeheartedly appreciated the opportunity to live in a manner that allows them to maintain the Bible standards they enjoy.
Hmm, Malveck1 suggests Jah-Jireh exists only for paying customers, but this is not true as several residents are benefiting from charitable status. This video was made around 2004, and since then several homes like Jah-Jireh have opened in Canada, Korea, the Netherlands, Poland and Czech Republic. Others are in the planning stage. They all operate independently of Jah-Jireh in the UK, but all are run as non-profit charities.
I'm sure you have to be a home owner..this is not available to just any elderly JW..and if this is the case it should have been mentioned. That being said the care is outstanding.
+Venice 111 I'm glad you found the video interesting. I'm not sure where you got your information about funding, but the residents in the homes come from all walks of life and are funded in various ways. As in most care homes in Britain, some residents fund themselves, others are funded by the government benefit system, while others are paid for by charitable gifts from individual supporters of the Jah-Jireh Charity.
That’s interesting to know. Thanks for sharing. Jah jireh continues to thrive and has its own Facebook and instagram channel. Find them as: JahJirehCharityHomes
