This is one of my all time favorite songs. If you dig into the meaning of the song it really tells a story that I feel is perfect if you know some of the culture it comes from. It is one of those "near perfect" songs thst you rarely find.
Yeah, the entire album taps into mythology and feudal Japanese history, with Kirisute Gomen and Shogun serving as bookends for the album. The whole album is fantastic and I don't think there's a bad track on it. Though many will argue the band is as good as its ever been and still cranking out bangers, the track Shogun is still their Magnum Opus to me. Masterful writing with swelling highs and beautiful delicate lows, and uses motifs from earlier tracks including the aforementioned Kirisute Gomen. If you listen to the entire album start to finish, and I know few have time for that kind of stuff anymore, but if you do, your enjoyment would be even better as you pick out all those elements. The more you recognize, the more it wows you.
You're spot on with the fade out, the idea that this was just a perhaps a small portion of a seemingly endless & on-going battle...& of course it's the album closer (also very appropriately). 🤘
This album is so good and imo Still hasn’t been topped by them, great band tho. Like another commenter said I definitely recommend kirisute Gomen from the same record

Down from the sky is the best on this album for me, but every song is amazing
I completely agree with Shogun being their magnum opus. And this album as a whole as an absolutely masterpiece and my all time favorite trivium album.
Drums this album BEST
You can close your eyes and pick any song from this allbum

Not topped, but ITCOTD comes close. It's the closest thing to Shogun 2 we've ever gotten.
@noxapalooza6756 I personally don't think it's that close. It's a great record, but shogun is one of the best metal albums ever.
