Me too. I wouldn't particularly rank Violet Evergarden (the series as a whole) as one of the saddest i've watched but if it's just ep10 then it is one of my top. Still makes me cry. Also agree with Clannad (After Story), that's my top 1 too.

What do you mean “that’s how the light novel ends too”? Aside from Gilbert being alive the show deviated too far for it to be the same. The show’s ending was made assuming they weren’t making any more later. As such, it’s a perfectly valid conclusion. Lots of fans are very happy with that ending, then the movie sours the whole series for them. Have you seen a reactor that this happened to? It sucks more than them having never watched it. If by the end of the show they seem to be that type of fan, then let them enjoy that ending and move on. Judging by how they felt about Charlotte and Damien, plus the new info and changing perspective on Violet and Gilbert, it seems safe to assume they wouldn’t enjoy the movie.

No I do not support letting reactors stay in ignorance completely missing the point on pivotal character development and aspects of the plot. If LM actually don't think that Violet and Gilbert are romantically in love with each other after watching this first (and only) season, than they failed to understand the most basic parts of her character and of the story itself. The writers/artists behind this series could not be more explicit when showing that Violet and Gilbert are CLEARLY romantically in love with each other. Episode 1: Violet falls into a trance staring into Gilbert's eyes, calling them beautiful. He puts on the brooch around her neck (Which is what a Lover does). Episode 5: An ENTIRE episode dedicated to a girl the SAME AGE as Violet getting with an adult man and its portrayed as an objectively positive and good thing. Another episode where Gilbert names Violet "Violet" after a beautiful blooming flower nearby, saying the quote "I believe you will GROW into that name one day" considering she was like 10 years old or something when he named her. And when you think you get some time to breathe they show you how it effects Violet. War veterans have praised this show for the accuracy on ptsd and most refuse to comment on this episode.

I mean, maybe they don't get officially married with a legal document and everything but they most certainely become romantic partners and live happily ever after. Did you not stay for the after credits scene? Also I don't think its an issue either, I love that they can finally get together romantically as Violet is no longer a child and they have both grown significantly more emotionally mature during each others absense. @@TukaihaHithlec

They weren’t constantly making jokes or being mean about the behavior of the daughter. They understood the situation and empathized.

Contrary to your statement, a very vocal minority is defending the idea of romance between Gilbert and Violet. When the reactors previously mentioned that everyone is in agreement that romance between adults and children isn’t good, you commented proclaiming your support for it even in real life, so there’s that.
And who are you calling “braindead”? The one and only thing in the original -twelve- *_thirteen_* episodes that could reasonably be interpreted as romantic attraction is the use of “I love you / Aishiteru”, but that’s used between family as well. Parents say that to/about their children on more than one occasion, including this very episode.
If they wanted it to be more obvious, maybe they could have shown Violet at least recognize attraction to/from/between anyone at all? Maybe they could have had Gilbert treat her like a crush instead of like a daughter or little sister? Maybe he could have told his mother that he wanted to marry Violet, instead of talking about the possibility of adopting her and how small she was. Maybe their reunion could have involved a kiss, or at least Violet hugging Gilbert back for once.
I could go on a long time about all the evidence that their relationship is familial, but I’m genuinely curious what evidence you think says it’s romantic, given your aggressive insistence. Again, here’s hoping you finally reply this time and don’t just disappear once more.
