I thoroughly enjoyed you explaining all of this to me. I'm American have recently gotten interested in the Celtic traditions. You're beautiful and have a lovely voice. Thanks again!
Great video. I understand that Gardner collaborated with Druid leader Ross Nicolls and they combined astronomical and Celtic festivals to create the eight pointed wheel.
This was an excellent video. Very well spoken and well done. From what I remember hearing way back when. Is that Old Gerald had taken a trip of some sort and when he had returned, his coven had voted the 4 other Sabbats in. He just went along with it. I'm not quite sure if Doreen had anything to do with it or not. It's quite possible she did. She was known for changing things around in the coven. Many blessings to you! Syker :)

That sounds likely :) - I'm pretty sure all I know about it is from Triumph of the Moon, though. Thanks very much, and thanks for watching!
Thank you, for sharing this! I’m American ( north) we celebrate the beginning at the midway point. Which I’ve always been sorrowful because it always seems like fall went so fast but I guess that August 1st is the first of the harvest thus the beginning. Not our American(mabon) point teaching.
I am given to understand that the other four festivals were bought in by gardeners association with the neo druidic organization but I could be completely wrong.
In the tropics, the seasonal changes aren't as distinct.. The sun is basically overhead throughout the year. So this model would not make sense to that area. What can you suggest for that? What books or other sources can you recommend?

Abigail Laurel Hi Abigail! Sorry for the delay in replying. Unfortunately because this isn't an issue for me I can't think of any good sources off the top of my head... Mostly I think creating your own intuitive map of the year is probably the way to go in this situation - and perhaps looking at local folklore or mythology to see what stories are associated with which times of year. But I do think it's something that should get talked about more!
Matt M its like the coriolis effect, its opposite in the southern hemisphere and in between the tropic is the equiator where sun is direct on Aries and Libra, where as the is direct on the tropics at those times. equator just doesnt really have seasons like the northern or southern hemisphere.
I'm a German in outback Australia and actually feel rather disconnected to nature here because of the missing seasons even tho I live in the middle of nature. Quite a struggle.
@@plantifulalexandra I understand your comment. I moved to QLD Australia from New Zealand a decade ago and struggled with the lack of seasons. I have had to relearn everything I knew about gardening and plant care. I now think of the extreme summer heat like I would the extreme winter cold in that sense that I just won’t grow anything well over summer. It takes too much water and attention and energy to manage a summer garden so I don’t. I am wondering how this calendar can be used in a climate like this without significant changes in seasons it doesn’t make much sense. I’ve adapted my garden to include varieties of plants bread for the heat and just don’t even try to grow traditional varieties. I don’t know how to do this with the calendar though. I hope someone else has done this and could share their source with us.
