most of the time they bite because they're nervous 🤷🏻‍♀️ I had a budgie who thought hands are something for him to eat, because he used to eat a lot and literally everything 😂

I believe that’s why mine do it, they are hand fed babies about 3/4 months old now. They equate the hand with food still. Funny story: I was sleeping on my couch one afternoon and my little escape artist opened her food door and got out. I’m having a dream that monkeys are biting my thumb and it’s starting to hurt more and more, I wake up and there’s my little Budgie biting the living heck out of my thumb to wake me up and feed her. 🤣

If anyone here is suffering with a biting bird make sure of these steps:
    1) Birds always bite for a reason. Find what reason that is by seeing what u do exactly before they bite. If for example they started biting u after u for example grabbed them to get them back into their cage then next time try to lure them in by treats or a phone playing bird sounds near their cage. Be patient!
    2) The bird usually doesn’t bite immediately! It will first show u signs like for example backing up or opening their beak to show you that you need to stop! At this point u can either back away or distract them with something for example a treat or toy they like to make them forget that they were even trying to bite u!
    3) If you weren’t able to spot signs that show that ur bird is about to bite, and u get bit, make sure to do ONE of these 2 things:
3a) If u have a GOOD bond with ur bird then pull ur hand away gently and do a little scream (not too loud). This is what birds do to other birds when they are for example preening too hard and they want them to stop
3b) If you have a BAD bond with ur bird then DO NOT react! So leave ur hand there and don’t make a sound!
    4) Show them that ur hand is something that brings them good so whenever u put ur hand near them and they don’t bite make sure to reward them.
BEWARE: DO NOT and I repeat DO NOT give a treat to a bird AFTER they bite or you’re just teaching them that they will get rewarded after they bite which may cause this behavior to be repeated!!!
TAKE A SCREENSHOT OF THIS COMMENT, YOU MAY WANNA REFER TO IT! :)

If I tell u something the point 2 is opposite of my bird if I am trying to feed him he's not eating or something or he's playing he will get a shock type thing he instantly bites (not showing signs) and will come near my face and slap me with his wing I don't know how he learned that (he's name is lemon) he's still my cutie lemon

I always put greens in my birds cage with my left hand , somehow I figured that I can always prank him , 😂 I come up to him like am about to put greens for him to eat he will excitedly jump on my hand (right hand so he can eat) and I then show him there's nothing in my hand ,when ever I do this he instantly bites me in anger of not giving jos fav food greens. To him 😂🤣

The best way to bond with a parakeet is get them when they’re still young preferably at 6 weeks because that’s when they’re old enough to leave the nest. I got my budgie at a bird store at 6 weeks, he was $60 as opposed to $20 but it’s definitely worth it. I also asked the shop keeper which one was the friendliest. He was the most trusting parakeet I ever had, he went on my shoulder and borrowed into my shirt and sleeves, he learned how to talk, he was very loving and let me pet and massage his face, he didn’t bite unless he was in a pissed off mood lol but never hard enough to hurt, and he did really funny things a lot. I also would clip his wings in the summer so he could go outside in the grass and he would also stay on my shoulder when I went for walks. When you get them that young they bond with you as if you’re their mother so he was especially close with me but also nice to other people as well. Also make sure you spend a lot of time with them, as soon as I came home from school he would stay out of his cage until it was ready to go to sleep. The more time you spend with them, the more they trust and love you.

I would encourage you to look into the effects of clipping a birds wings, it can have many side effects and is usually deemed abuse unless for medical reasons. Even though a birds wings are clipped they still have the ability to be carried away in the wind or to find their way somewhere far from their owner, many bird owners have lost their birds this way.

My budgie, Romeo bites me all the time! I’ll try not to react in the future. It hurts though. They’re really hard bites, w/blood even sometimes.
He also gives me constant kisses,
& lots of love, but he won’t leave his cage. Its a cage for a larger bird so he can fly in it. His wings are not clipped. No way!
He’ll be a year old this month.
I got him for myself & my 17 year old shid-zue to love, & be a family together.
I’m a very gentle & a loving person. (Emotional too.) I am fun as well
w/him. He picks up on all my emotions and it’s a sweet relationship, but the biting is truly devastating for me.
I know he wants to interact w/me,
    (or maybe he hates me?)
    Idk…😔
He get jealous if I even watch tv.
    He gets mad.
I had a budgie 25 years ago that went everywhere w/me and never, ever, bit me!!
    I don’t understand..😣
Romeo speaks very well. He is showered w/attention, treats, fresh water, fresh greens, and food daily.
My 17 year old doggie Angel, passed away recently, which has been very heartbreaking, & we also recently moved. (Angel & Romeo were best friends.)
Romeo has been w/me through it all. (He’s my man, hence the name...)
I’m a loner so he gets all my love.
He has huge patio windows he is near to look out daily.
Not too much Sun, just enough.
He has his own iphone w/a variety of budgie videos daily to enjoy.
I cannot get another budgie. I’m in an apartment now. He gets very loud during play all on his own! 😁
Yes, he has a mirror he adores, & protects it fiercely. Was that a mistake? If I took it out, he’d never forgive me. I know this.
I really want to bond w/him. It’s been a year this coming March since I got him, & I really need help.
I don’t know what to do about this biting and him not leaving his cage.
He won’t even perch on my finger!
    Even w/fresh millet.😔
    Yes, I’m clean. Lol
This is a really big deal to me.
I know he wants to try, I think?
He’s so loving when the door is shut and my hand is out of the cage.
He jumps on the side to visit w/me all the time. Everytime I walk by actually.
He’s just so afraid to interact outside of the cage. It’s so sad.
As I said, I’m very kind to him.
    What do I do?
This is not what I expected or hoped for. I do give him lots of rest, and personal space too. He hates it when I even watch tv.
Yes, he’s a bit spoiled, but please understand, he’s also my feathered son.
Oh, & he just hit puberty too.
    Oh boy!! 😂
Please, any help would be greatly appreciated!!
    Please do be kind though.
    Thank you!!

My tip, worked for my baby lovebird, who has now become very trusting: he's still scared of your hand, every time you put it in his cage you're invading his safe space. Try, over time (don't be impatient!) to either get him out of the cage by letting him perch on something far away from your hand, lured by his favourite treats. I just used one of those firm sticks that have all the seeds on them. If you know his favourite treat it gets a bit easier. If he's too scared to leave, even getting him closer to cage door will be progress. Eventually he will learn that its not that scary. At some point you introduce your hand, closer to the food, but not very close. Over time you keep closing this distance. He will become less sensitive about your hand. Mine used to be terrified of my hands, now its his favourite spot. I can put my hands over him now to play peekaboo too. It's all about tiny progress with lots and lots of repetition! I'm not an expert, but this worked for me. Hope it helps. Ps. If you're able to learn your bird tricks already, this helps, mine was fine running through my hands at some point as a trick, because it was just focused on the trick. It's a good way to be able to still catch him while he doesn't allow you to grab him normally. (Edit: for clarification, making him FULLY trust my hands took many many months maybe like 7 months. He would sit on them at some point, but a finger close would scare him.

@@suzyhomeacre Hi Suzy, best of luck! There's one more thing I would add, I would really recommend to look into "touch training"(youtube it). Its process where you use a dog clicker, treats and a chopstick. Touching the end of the stick, clicker goes off and he gets a treat. Its fun for them, you can teach them tricks and most importantly it puts them into training mode sort of. If they are practicing they are mostly focussed on getting the treat, less worried about your hands. It can make the process go a bit quicker I guess. You could over time just move the target progressively closer to your hand. Happy at some point would run through my tunneled hand when training a trick, but not get anywhere close otherwise haha. It can help a bit, doesn't make them comfortable around hands yet, but can help to show its really not that scary. Besides, its great fun for them and you.

Whenever you put your finger a few millimetres from it, it will obviously nibble at it. True biting is when your bird lunges at you, with its beak open when your hand is a few centimetres away from you

Yeah, it depends on a budgie. The more tamed budgie is, the lesser bites you will get.
    It's from my experience.
Lemon bites us only when he is either playful (he bites his dad as his dad is very emotional and Lemon loves his reaction 🤦😭) or he doesn't want to be petted, touched etc.
    He's literally a cat 🐈😺🤦😭

It's most likely that he is not scared, but he just doesn't want to interact with you as he has a lot of other fun stuff that distracts him.
The best thing to do is to try and tame him in an unfamiliar area.

We've had our budgies for roughly a month. Today our male finally decided to perch on my shoulder, at first it was brief. I shaved my head after all this and now he wants to perch and not leave. I was finally able to get him to transfer to my finger to which he thought would be a good idea to nibble at first then went full on bite mode. My natural response was what I shouldn't have done. Keep in mind this is my first time as a 🐦 owner.

I think distracting a bite with millet will teach your bird to bite for millet, not a good idea. Mine both think it is a game to bite, a very hard habit to break, but they don’t do it hard enough to actually hurt.

    • @kaah5823
      @kaah5823 2 ปีที่แล้ว

It helps. I distract my lovebird and she didn't learn to bite from that, but she's very sweet, usually distract her when she tries to bite herself (I don't know why she does this, but when she gets overly excited or agitated, or even too much in the zone while getting scritches and something startles her she'd start biting herself). I usually give her something to chew on when she gets like this to channel the aggression, but I've seen something over on bird tricks Channel that help, they train the bird to bite the tip of the stick used for target training, gently so it will not bite hard. But these tips are all good and I've used all of them before

I know that it is possible to keep a Budgie and a Cockatiel together, but I am not sure if I can keep a Green Cheek Conure along with them. My plan is to get the Rainbow Budgie first and then once I stop hand feeding it, I will get the White-Faced Cockatiel and then finally when I stop hand feeding the Cockatiel, I will get the Green Cheek Conure. What do you think? Can I keep them together? Also is this a good plan? Also I subscribed. You deserve more subscribers. Love from Bangladesh 🇧🇩:)

Great video. Unfortunately, none of these suggestions work for me. My English girl budgie flies over to me, jumps on my hand, viciously bites me, tries to groom my face, biting and drawing blood. She has NEVER been grabbed nor yelled at. She also flies over to my Bourkes parakeets and attacks them by biting at their face and back chest kicking.
She has always been free, not in a cage, comes over to hang out but then starts the biting 😞

I got my bird from a hatchling and she was use to me. I had some sickness in my family and wasn't able to get her out everyday now shes resenting me and biting me. She use to let me scratch her head and she's stopped that as well. How do I get her use to me again so she'll be the bird I once had?

My budgie Azul just started to bite me some and it scared the heck out of me. I still need help to get them to trust me enough where they will step up out on my finger and eat from my hand. The millet spray I have is berry flavored and they just won't except it from me at all. My green budgie Loco is so scared all the time unlike Azul who is pretty calm. I don't what wrong with but I have noticed along his wings that there are these white dots that stick out some should be worried about that?
What is the right food I should give my budgies they don't like food that is a little big and they really preferer four things out of the budgie food. Also what are some good vegetables to give them? What's a good portion size of food for my budgies because it seems like they eat a lot. Also I was able to hold one of my budgies but a couple of hours later he was so scared to let me be near him and know I can't even get him to step up on my finger anymore.

I’ve had a conure for a long time and have bareley been able to take him out of his cage, no matter how hard I try to be calm and quiet around him he just won’t stop biting. I put my finger through the cage and he bites, I open it and try to get him to stand on my finger but he just bites it. I’ve always been so jealous of people who can properly pet their bird and desperately want the same experience with mine because he’s so damn cute, but the biting makes it impossible. I’ve tried lots of ways to stop it but none have worked so hopefully this will.

My female budgie wen I first got her bit really hard ( she was just really scared as after that she stopped wen I took her out the get her computable with me she was only three weeks old and I handled her right away, I have done with all my young 3-4 weeks old ones , if you handle them right away because they are so young it dosent even cross their mind that you are there to harm them and are tame right away, the others never bit only my female just once ) budgies most of the time just bite because they are scared

so basically, my bird bites my fingers, and only is afraid of my fingers, if i use gloves or any thing, he starts playing with it.
he is a fischer lovebird, he bites my other fischer lovebird and attacks my amazon parrot, he is weird in every way, but i still love him and will still try to apply these steps.

    Hi!
I've got not long ago a Kakariki. I've had it as baby but the problem is he bites!
Everytime he sees my skin and specially the feet he bites after he kissed it.
I've always use the wordt "NO" and put him in He's cage and ignore him but it's been a few weeks and he's still the same. It's the same when i wanna kiss him sometimes he kiss and sometimes he bites.
I surely don't know what to do :/

I think my bird is afraid of hands? Idk he sees them and he ducks or runs away into his cage he can’t stand hands but will have no problem standing on shoulders or anywhere else as long as it’s not hands and that even calms him sometimes. He’s been that way since we got him and we’ve tried rewarding him for not biting and changing his diet but it seems he just does it to be aggressive but I know he’s probably just traumatized?

Iis it normal for a budgie to basically chew on nothing? I got one yesterday and today he's been making a lot of chewing noises but he hasn't touched his food at all.

hi salvador budgie, im worried about something. my budgie's
(3-4 months old) flying speed went down could it possibly be because he's not eating vegetables i try every day though he just does not eat them and sometimes fly away in fear so my question is, is it normal that he is significantly slower? i really need an explanation.thank you

What if my tamed bird is aggressively biting ,the day before I tried taking him from my room (where his cage is 24/7) ti the living room and he immediately freaked out and started getting in top of my neck and biting me so I took him back to my room and this morning when I was changing his water he attacked me. Idk why. I tried giving him a treat and he still attacked my hand. So why is he biting so hard, what did I do wrong?

My budgie isn't biting me but he has been preening my arm alot. It ends up hurting cause it feels like he is nipping my skin and I end up with a rash on my arm. I've tried moving him away but he just comes back. I've also tried to ignore him when he does it but it hurts and I have to move my arm away from him
