If anyone here is suffering with a biting bird make sure of these steps: 1) Birds always bite for a reason. Find what reason that is by seeing what u do exactly before they bite. If for example they started biting u after u for example grabbed them to get them back into their cage then next time try to lure them in by treats or a phone playing bird sounds near their cage. Be patient! 2) The bird usually doesn’t bite immediately! It will first show u signs like for example backing up or opening their beak to show you that you need to stop! At this point u can either back away or distract them with something for example a treat or toy they like to make them forget that they were even trying to bite u! 3) If you weren’t able to spot signs that show that ur bird is about to bite, and u get bit, make sure to do ONE of these 2 things: 3a) If u have a GOOD bond with ur bird then pull ur hand away gently and do a little scream (not too loud). This is what birds do to other birds when they are for example preening too hard and they want them to stop 3b) If you have a BAD bond with ur bird then DO NOT react! So leave ur hand there and don’t make a sound! 4) Show them that ur hand is something that brings them good so whenever u put ur hand near them and they don’t bite make sure to reward them. BEWARE: DO NOT and I repeat DO NOT give a treat to a bird AFTER they bite or you’re just teaching them that they will get rewarded after they bite which may cause this behavior to be repeated!!! Glad i found this. I have a wee budgie, shes 5 months old. She's always biting me, but it doesn't seem aggressive. I can tell when she's feeling aggressive & territorial cos she lets out a chicken like squawk beforehand and i know to keep away. But the other biting, it seems gentler. She chirps for my attention, comes to the side of thr cage I'm at, follows me about the room, etc. But if my hand goes near her she will bite. It doesn't hurt me mostly, only when she gets the skin between my fingers, so i don't think its intentional, but my young child is afraid of her because it does hurt him, and I wasn't sure what to do. I didn't realise she could be playing until i watched this, so this is very good to know. Any advice from anyone on if this is something that will always happen or if it can be trained out?
My male budgie likes to bite my finger for no reason, even when i keep my hand distant from him while i feed my other budgie, he would perch on my hand and bite my finger or my palm. I don't know if he's playing around or not
So my budgie loves me and loves scratches but when on his swing if I leave my finger nearby he will bite it slowly but really hard and if I move my finger slightly he does it faster . So my questions is do I stay away from him on his swing ? Or do I keep my finger there and act like nothing happened ? Also should I avoid trying to give scratches on the swing indefinitely or keep trying until he stops biting ?
Mine bites only when she’s excited and playful. It’s getting me irritated but I’m still trying to hold on. She’s very well tamed and sweet, which is why I’m not getting rid of her for that.
I have had my male budgie for around 2 weeks now. when I first got him he was so playful he would come onto my finger and stay there and climb up onto my head and shoulder. now when I get him out of the cage and offer my finger he lunges as if to say GET AWAY. I don't understand as we have not changed anything from when we first got him. any suggestions please ?
Hi so my female budgie seems to runaway whenever he wants to mate but she always enters the nesting box. They are both older then 2 year's. The male also usually feeds her through his mouth and they also scratch each other's head. Can sm1 explain why she don't want to breed?

budgies are one of those breeds that sometimes never really want human interaction they are very small and fragile and your a freaking giant it makes sense my mother had a budgie that never wanted human interaction in the entire 8 yrs she had it cockatiels if properly hand tamed tend to be very cuddly and affectionate
Question Budgies love to eat cuttlebones. But if you let them eat too much calcium supplements, the results can be damaging. Excessive calcium in your Budgie's body will lead to kidney problems and mineralization.. IS THIS TRUE??
Hey I have a question, how do I mourn the death of a budgie. Recently, my poor pet budgie died due to illness and I still can’t stop crying each time I think about him, he was a husband of a female I named melon and became a father of 3 a few weeks ago. When his sickness got to the point I noticed, it was too late. The vet said he was in critical condition and we tried everything, in his final hours, we put him near the mother of the chicks and placed one of the more grown chicks next to him. They both looked sad and he flapped his wings at him I think gesturing to stay away so they don’t get sick. Then he finally died. I feel so bad for him, he always fed the chicks, I fed my budgies millet, he also fed the mother of the chicks melon some food. The bone in his stomach area was really sharp as if he had no fat. I don’t know what to do, I’m in emotional distress. Does anyone have suggestions, because I’m taking him tomorrow to the vet to perform a necropsy on the poor thing. I really hope he’s in heaven watching his baby budgies and wife eat and thrive. I do hope that you can help. :((
My bird also died around 6 months ago. It took a lot of time to grieve him. I eventually got another bird and he helped me move on. Though another bird will not replace your old budgie, they help you get through it.
Hey, Can u plz tell me my budgie is 2 months old he is friendly with me.he comes out of the cage to eat,he was doing grrat But from 2 days white i put my hand in his cage he bites me,exactly not bites but movws his neck towards my finger and make angry noise Why is he doing do??

By green cheek conure bites me playfully. He will approach me calmly, sit on my hand. Some small bites then he would bite me hard. If I scream in pain he would back of but would do the same thing again. No idea how to deal with that.
My lovebird bites me when I give her food from my hand if the food is further away, I think she is trying to see if the finger-hand is safe to step in but she doesn’t step in just bites hard
I had gotten a tray away Parrot, like a big size one and I live in the Caribbean but every since taking care of it all the way back at two years ago it always snaps at me or my mother when we try to play with it, or even if the cage is open and he sees us then it always snaps at us like it wants to bite us, wings up and push its head forward towards the cage entrance as to bite us, that mostly happens in night time. what should we do?????????
Get a budgie they said, their bites don't hurt they said... Wrong! Ollie delights in biting me, even while he's on my finger taking millet, if I try to touch him in any way he will clamp down as hard as he can! I got another budgie thinking it would maybe chill him out a bit. The other one doesn't bite, just scuttles away if I get too close to touching. So disappointing when you want a pet them...
Ok kinda of a weird, but my birds really REALLY like biting and playing with my nails and skin around the nail. I know that it might seem appealing to them, but they are hurting me cause after like a minute or so they get so very focused on their task they forget it is my finger... Also they like lifting my nails from the skin which suck, but they consider it a great game for them...
If you're not comfortable with it, then you need to show them it's too much. One of my budgies never bites, but the other bites enough for both of them. The reason for this is a combination of my stupid absentmindedness, which led to having to grab her early on, and that she's young and has no idea how much her beak can hurt. So every time she tries to bite, I start screaming my head off dramatically, so she gets the signal that this is not okay. Most baby budgies learn with from their clutchmates and parents, bite-control, but she was hand-raised, so she needs to learn this now, even if she's nearly a year old.
