Saw all five originals together for the last time back in 1983. They didn't disappoint and I consider it one of my favorite concerts that I ever attended
I saw one of their shows at the same time in '83. They did all their original original songs, perfectly! The Animals were one of the best bands of the British Invasion.
Eric Burdon currently resides in Athens, Greece. In fact, he did a surprise gig at a small village in the mainland, which the one next to where my family there lives.

I love these cats! These white dudes by way of the Uk, were true purveyors of the blues! Eric Burdon was one of THE greatest British blues singers period! The work that he recorded with WAR afterwards is proof of that. Really soulful and funky shit. Chas Chandler's bass playing was on point! Their guitarist Valentine, was wicked when it came to throwing down Chuck Berry and John Lee Hooker licks, solos and grooves! This band was completed with solid players on drums and the organ as well. I really respect and enjoy this band. An outstanding complement and addition to the British blues and MOD scenes!
I saw the Animals open for the Rolling Stones in Tulsa, Oklahoma on November 23, 1965. They played a full set and, in this 15 year old's ear, outdid the Stones! Burdon was amazing; he didn't need a microphone to reach the cheap seats. His take on House of the Rising Sun live still resonates in these old bones these 58 years later. They came across as an authentic blues band, visceral and feral. I had to get used to Jagger's gyrations that I though took away from their performance. They had the #1 on the charts with "Satisfaction" which they closed with and it was a bitchin lick by Keef to hear live as a new song. I still go back and forth, both bands were great, their newness and focus was high energy. It was a wild time to hear song after song that are now etched into the rock legends. John Sebastian of the Luvin' Spoonful tells it to those of you who weren't around in the 60's, He sang "I'll tell you about the magic, and it'll free your soul But it's like trying to tell a stranger 'bout a rock 'n' roll"
What a great band. They were pioneers of British blues. Sadly they are rarely heard on the radio and lack the recognition the stones and Beatles received even though they went to USA in the mid 1960s. Eric Burdon is still great and his album he bought out ten or so years ago is in my opinion some of the best singing he has ever done. He is amazing live and I remember him singing with Jon Bon Jovi amongst other greats. Another great artist who has only been appreciated more is Rory Gallagher

House of the rising sun was recorded in one sitting, they came down to London by train with all os their instruments. A rift between Eric and Alan Price came about as Price had his name put on the American release as the composer of House of the rising sun and such took the royalties.
@@crazypainter56 Price would say that but it didn't stop him keeping the money which he could have shared out with the other band members. “The last time I saw Alan Price was at a 1983 reunion show. At that time I was willing to forget about the past and set the record straight. We collectively asked him if he was ready to start sharing future royalties for House of the Rising Sun. When he refused, that was the last time I ever spoke to him,” says Eric.
Most bands today couldn''t have made it in the '60s. There were only 4 sound effects: Mosrite Fuzz, Vox Wah-Wah, Reverb, and Vibrato. We didn't even have Stage Monitors. Back then, you had to have raw talent. I'd like to see today's musicians make it without Autotune - or record an album on a 2-track or 4-track tape machine. Today's kids have it dead easy. We had to hike 5 miles through 6 feet of snow, with our gear strapped to our backs - just to make it to a gig!
Eric burdon headlined a 60s band festival about 12 years ago that came through Atlanta. He looked pretty much like Grandpa Simpson but he and his band gave a great performance. Noticeably better than Jack Bruce and his fake version of Cream.

I never met any of the Animals but had most of their music. I am friends with the son of one of the people who were War which he made music with. Tom’s Father was Papa D Allen who unfortunately passed away from several years ago. Not sure if Tom is still with us as I haven’t heard from him in awhile. He told me stories of traveling with the band in other countries and the “groupies” who would do about anything to get close to the members. Still occasionally bring up an Eric Burdon song on my playlists. Really liked “Magic Mountain” with War and “Spill the Wine”.
It's my life. This is my favorite Animal's song. What happened to Inside Looking Out? This was originally done by The Animals but later was done by Grand Funk.
I heard Mark Farner became friends with Eric Burdon. The fact is--all the Michigan bands could relate most to the Animals, blue collar, industrial upbringing more than any other British group because Detroit had a lot in common with Newcastle. Most of them covered their songs
Though I love War and most of the Latino community loves War and loves Eric Burdan the band was predominately African American, not Latino, I think War has like one Latino member attached to it. However, War was probably one of the first bands to take direct influence from and acknowledge the Latino American community including it's differences from the Latin American community. It's amazing how much the Love Generation "knew where it was at," and missed things right under their feet including Tejano (the music that would give us Selena and from Texas) and Salsa that would ignite a new wave of Latin music in the early 70's and was created in Spanish Harlem, that rose that the Mamas and the Papas were going to pick for their garden yet went completely over their heads. Tejano had its first albums around 1966 with Salsa following the year later in 1967, it's early form you can hear the influence of soul and rock though with the Latin sounds on the top, some of which would have been very appealing to Eric Burdon especially when you hear songs like San Francisco Dreaming. Yes, I do say albums, Arriba by Little Joe and The Latiners and El Malo by Willie Colon were both albums released in 1966 and 67 respectively. Also, Eric is the only one to even come close to actually imaging the Chicano look and probably not even fully aware of it either. Whereas the average hippie kid walks around with a Pancho while the average Chicano kid hadn't worn a Pancho since age 10. Also, something else I noticed is that you mentioned Eric influences from the drug culture but seemed to miss the very direct rebuke of the drug culture that happened in New York 1963 to America 1968. He basically straight out flat out says he's sorry and it very much seems like it's the Black community he's apologizing to. Though you see the early shades of this in "Winds of Change," both the song and the album, "Twice the Twain Shall Meet," is the only true hippie album with entirely hippie themes, "Winds of Change," is already rebuking parts of the hippie movement, references The Mamas and the Papas as belonging to the past, though the group hadn't broken up yet, but the writing was on the wall. It opens with what I think is a reference to all the deaths of Summer 67 likely in both the riots and the drug overdoses.
Eric moved to the US permanantly and I last saw him at a casino near Memphis.I sat down at the bar and ordered a beer and asked the man sitting next to be if it was true that Eric Burdon was going to play 0n thre stage next to the bar? He said "yes I am - I go on in 10 minutes that's why I am sitting here" . WOW! When he staeted to play, the entire casino 's crowd surrounded the stage and stopped gambling - after about 30 minutes the casino "pulled the plug on the sound stage - end of concert !
I've got an extenaive collection of albums from the 1960's including virtually everything by the Beatles and the Stones and I find myaelf reaching for the Animals records as much as any other band from that era. Burdon's voice has always been great but he was flat out awesome from 1963 to 1971 (including two years with War). Right there with Sam Cooke and Otis Reading.as far as I'm concerned. Johnny Lydon (aka Johnny Rotten) has said that the Animals were in his opinion the first punk band. I agree with him. The other bands in that discussion like the Stones, the Who and the Kinks had the sound but were more refined and to some extent posers. The Animals were raw, scruffy, not particularly good looking and down right scary.

I seem to remember Alan Price releasing a couple of rather lame singles in the early seventies. Still, more successful than I’m ever going to be I suppose…
What happened to the animals? I was going to guess alcohol , in that the only time I ever saw Mr. Burdon perform was at a civic sponsored free concert on the beach, which I don't think he took seriously . half the time he spent reminiscing how he used to be so wild and drunk when he played that song back in the day, as if what he was doing on stage at the time was very secondary to his interests.

More than 2 or 3 hits. Your opinion of course but I aim to differ. I'm over 70 and a teenager when the British Invasion hit America. The Animals were a tier under the Beatles, Stones and Dave Clark 5, the Kinks but definitely a force on the "invasion'" . "House of the Rising Sun", "I'm crying", "Don't let me Down", "We Got to get the out of this place" (the unofficical anthem of American GIs in Vietnam), "It's my life", "Please don't let me be Misunderstood", "When I was young", "Bring it on back to me", "Boom Boom", "Help me Girl" et.al. I list these songs to refute your ridiculous claim. Time does indeed move on but we're never too old to reflect.
The Animals are only one man: ERIC BURDON! What a shame, that the others try to make bucks without Eric! Like the greedy asshole Alan Price, who got all the money for "House of the..." only by a mistake. Eric Burdon is unique as a musician, can't say that to anybody else of the former members.

What Happened to The Animals? THEY ALL GOT OLD... GOOD-BY ...
You read good
Animals in the zoo
was eric the eggman??...coo coo cah choo
Yes and at this moment I can't recall the book I read that he was , indeed, 'The Eggman'! Coo Coo Ka Choo back at you!!
@@davidgibbs381 i have seen john lennon himself explain the eggman story and also eric burdon himself..... stories don't match.....same as paul and john explaining where the name the beatles came from....different stories....i guess memories are subjective ...... so can they all be true?
@@ronniebrown2517Eric says they don't match because Lennin didn't want to tell the x-rated version. He was the egg man. No doubt about it.
@@jimsaco4334 i am getting a bit like joe biden in that i am old and forget things....where can i find or what is the x rated version?
@@ronniebrown2517 I read it in Eric's book "I Used To Be An Animal But I'm Alright Now", Basically the way Eric tells it, he's at a party where he tells John he cracked a raw egg on a girl's private parts and lopped it up. John changed it to her naval.
They all became old men.
Eric fucking Burn....Eric Burd...? Come on mate, if you're going to make videos like this then at least possess a little bit of knowledge about the people you're making these informational videos about. Because at the end of the day, if you can't even get their names right, then how are viewers going to get correct info during the rest of the video? 🙄
This guy has issues with certain
letters ending a name or word. I
don't think it is a case of not knowing, its literally his ability to
pronounce it.
Simple answer, they got old and died.
Who the hell is Brian Chandler?
Chas's real name was Bryan James "Chas" Chandler.
done well
They are extinct. It happens all the time.,
The narration is terrible . Wouldn't it make sense to learn to speak clearly , before embarking on such a venture ?
Hilton Valentine- NOT HOLTON CHAS CHANDLER NOT BRIAN GEEZ we're only 14 seconds in! Chaotic stage show-not Chaog
Chas's real name was Bryan James "Chas" Chandler.
The narrator here is in need of serious enunciation therapy. Otherwise, he should change his name to Mumbles. Or Slurry.
Eric burdon and the animals were ok in there time era they hung on for a long time but even in there hay day .they were ok I guess not a huge fan
2 or three hits that's it
Now hes 80 ..they gave it a good run
Time to move on and reflect
Time does indeed move on but we're never too old to reflect.
satire...
Cream
I"ll read it for you! Geez! Hard to listen to you!
WEll was looking forward to heatng /viewing this about The Animals , BUT , the audio replay was saao so so terrible , sounding as If tghe commentary wasa spoken into His Cup or Mug ; ffs please listen to ones recordings before publishing them ; it does one no credit to hear , or rather not hear , such good information ; better luck next time
Why is the commentator so terminally boring? Every sentence ends on a downbeat. Put us and him out of our and his misery.
