And for someone who had throat cancer, he sings pretty well. He was an icon who started the OPM Classics in the 70s along with Rico J Puno. His songs were popularized by Regine and other singers.

Basil Valdez sang the most difficult songs of multi-awarded composer George Canseco and National Artist Ryan Cayabyab. He has an English song "YOU", a light and heart-warming song which used to be the love theme song of many couples during my youth. I'm 63 now, so that was 45 years ago. His songs are immortal and awesomely delivered.
I remember " You" during our mushy days with my gf,, sad to say we didn't end up (my fault) we also sang "Lift up your Heart" when the two of us were down,,,, most of the songs of basil had a deep impact on us,, during our high school and college days till we graduate in college only to separate becoz of some circumstances,,
