Noel cabangon is actually a professor of humanities subject (at least used to be) that is why most of his songs are about human consciousness. I think he is part of those generation of Filipino musicians that have that Folk/Culture theme. Along with Grace Nono, Joey Ayala, APO hiking society etc.... Their type of music is really good for the soul. So if you are feeling down, troubled and depressed I recommend these songs. Kanlungan is one of our all time favorite songs when I was in college.
The lyrics in Filipino are actually more poetic than the english translation. The english reads flatter but if you understand Filipino this song is incredibly lyrical
Noel, we’re used to be neighbours, he’s not known yet then, he’ll sit on a curb strums his guitar 🎸 and sing and my cousin was like come out guys Noel is singing 🎤 and we’re all gonna come out listening to him. Thanks for all those great moments Noel.
This is one of the timeless songs in Philippines. The amount of poetry, passion, love is overflowing in this song. No translations can give justice to the song, i mean you can only grasp its meaning if you understand tagalog
Here is the English Translation of the song Kanlungan (Haven): Haven Chances are impermanent Can the past be turned back?
Do you still remember When the two of us first met? Childhood years Surrounded1 by flowers and plants That's where we started To dream and recite poems
Do you still remember The heart I carved on the mango tree? And the hibiscus flower I gave you Holding hands at the shore As free as the birds is The memory of our past
The trees and plants Are part2 of our memories With the passing of time Why did we also have to go? Chances are impermanent Can the past be turned back?
Now you came back And your excitement is just like mine To see the previous haven Home of our poems and dreams Now it's gone Where to search still?
Time passes by As part of our memories The trees and plants Why did they have to go? Chances are impermanent Can past be turned back?
Time passes by As part of our memories The trees and plants Why did they have to go? Chances are impermanent Can the past be turned back? Cheers: American-Filipino here on the West Coast of the USA.
That is pure Filipino, high Tagalog. The beauty of poetry in pure Filipino is indescribable. It's like listening to God or an eternal talking to you intimately. I am a pure Han Chinese born in the Philippines and this taglish crap that locals speak daily is just sad to me. We have one of the most beautiful and romantic language in the world and we choose toilet speak.
Wait a Little While by Kenny Loggins is what come to mind now. Noel Cabangon is always present in fundraising concerts. Always relevant. Has good advocacies.
Basil Valdez is a much Grander Pinoy vocal. Pilita Corales - Spanish song covers in the 70's. Florante- pinoy folk. Asin - pinoy folk band. Earaser heads - pinoy rock, as well as "Rockstar" whose vocalist is EZ Mil's father.. Filipinos listen to conches every time they find one of good size by the shore during a calm low tide sunset. . . .or singing their heart out under the wings of every storm. . .😊 Late 80's ang early 90's rapper - Andrew E.🫠. . .atbp.😁
I have a core memory of listening to the radio after midnight in my room back in college, and the station played this song. As a kid this song (more than 10years old at the time) evoked feelings for a nebulous future me. It hits different now that I’ve lived partway through that nebulous future. The song became much more famous years later when it was used in a McDonald’s tv ad, which I’m really happy for because this really is a great song that deserves the love. Noel was part of Buklod, the band that recorded this song. He eventually became popular as a solo act. His voice will forever be attached to this song, but I saw his bandmates perform it (also back in college) and they didn’t sound that much different either.
Noel Cabangon: underrated but a legend. His music is not commercialized in a way that he is mainstream but many singers go to his workshop to learn songwriting. We look up to singers that look up to him.
The great about this song is the Lyrics is Timeless very beautiful song that will remember for Lifetime😍🇵🇭👏... How much all people want to go back, or experience their past memories that can never be repeated or experience again it's just past memories either Happy or Painful😍💗💕 that's why I want Filipino Artists to go back to Songwriter, Compose a beautiful Songs... Hope Song Festival, Writing Song Competitions go back again in Philippines 😍💗🇵🇭
The genre of this is folk actually... He did this song live at a covered stadium.. I think you could appreciate it more because that was way way back... 😊
The amount of poetry in this is commendable❤ Everytime I hear this song, it makes me think of evry word it speaks in the lyrics and sad at the same time because of the reality that we really cannot bring the past back🥺 ughh this is so nostalgic. I don't wanna live forever but now that I'm getting older, I wanna live my childhood again 😊 missin' it so much 😞 Panapanahon ang pagkakataon, maibabalik ba ang kahapon? 🙃
Footlose is Kenny Loggins' most popular (probably because of the movie). But I also love Whenever I Call You Friend, Meet Me Halfway, Heart to Heart, and Forever!
This song always makes me sad and feel nostalgic. That every string note just keeps on getting into the very core of my soul. Remembering the happiness and innocence we used to have when we were a child.
This song is very close to our hearts. As a filipino they are the legends including Rey Valera who wrote beautiful songs like this. ❤ I wish one day you'll try to react on his songs as well. Even the songs of Silent Sanctuary.
🎻 🤵My favourite Kenny Loggins album is Return to Pooh corner. I can listen to it all the time. Noel Cabangon is one of those true musicians who make music for the sake of music itself and nothing else. How can anyone not like him?
There's a lot of great acoustic artists. 80's and 90's is the peak of OPM where a lot of bands coming up and a lot of acoustic performances. You can check out aiza seguerra, gary granada, side A, Eraserheads, parokya ni edgar, kamikaze, true faith, mymp, up darma down, paulo santos
Prolific composer, lyricist, writer Noel Cabangon has left his imprint on Original Filipino Music. Cabangon is also activist I have followed him for many years truly creative artist.
Yes Kenny Loggins and his dou Messina are quite popular in the Philippines during the folk era of 70s and 80s. Folk houses thrives in the country then. Most popular in Manila is the Hobbit House. 😊
I like Noel Cabangon's composed song " PANAHON & other Songs. Nice songs of Noel Cabangon & Nice Lyrics too. I hope you also play other songs like "Kahit Maputi na ang Buhok ko". He is a Composer & Nice Singer. I love your reactions, the reason why I am always following you. LOVE & LIGHT!
This song is so good.. that every 90s kid here in the ohilippines can totally relate.... the fun the joy the peace the freedom we had in ourchildhood specially living in the province where we are close to nature... its awesome... and nostalgic...
Early days of Loggins and Messina...Mid 70's ....Danny song...Accoustic pop folk songs of the 70's...Remind more of a James Taylor's Wondering...Early and Late from NYC🗽 to the golden gate🌉
I'm not so sure but I think they need to insert those "WISH 107.5" in the song itself, not before, not after, and that's for legal reasons. No amount of complains and rolling of eyes from you guys would make Wish change if pleasing you means Wish would be facing legal issues. And I watch so many reaction videos from various channels but why is it that it's only the two of you complain about it? Remember, TH-cam videos can also end up in YT Music, and Wish is just a Radio Station, not a distributor. I remember before, the Wish channel received a copyright strike from TH-cam because songs like "Secret Love Song" didn't like the fact that Wish posted a cover better and more popular than the original. The Wish channel was down for a long time, and Wish needed to strike deals with labels to get the channel back up again on TH-cam and that took a long time. And many magnificent covers were removed from Wish. Thankfully some users were able to download them before they were deleted and reposted in various fan channels so we can watch them still. But many videos were gone for good. I know you're new on Wish so you probably didn't know that piece of history. But please, I'm getting tired of seeing you roll your eyes. Just accept the fact that some things just can't be changed.
True! I feel the same, it’s tiring to see them do it over and over again. And sometimes it’s not even a bad timing, and it’s already like a signature so 🤷♀️ And oh that’s probably why I can no longer find Kyla, Yeng and KZs performance there.
I don't know why but everytime I listen to this song, it kinda always makes me feel sad even if I can't relate to it. Nostalgic feeling always hits me with this melody. 😢😢😢
🎻🎀 this song brings back childhood memories, especially summer time when I was a kid radios and tv channel plays it and some use it as tv commercial too
They do that for copyright. So you don’t download and convert the song to an mp3. The old wish Channel used to place the logo voice in the very beginning but they got shut down for copyright so the new wish YT had to put that at the beginning of the first lyric to not get block.
🎻🎀 Thank you for featuring this. This is my favorite Filipino song, from the first time I heard it 10+ years ago. This song was written like it was intended to be a poem. It flows so beautifully in Tagalog, though most of it does not translate well to English.
Please start reacting on random Filipino singer that's goes viral on TH-cam. there's a lot random Filipinos singer on TH-cam. Dive deep in the Philippines culture.
Pls listen to noel cabangon and aiza siguera wish bus colab for the song " walang hanggang paalam (never ending goodbye)" it hits different..its mystical..
The older I get, the more nostalgic this song makes me feel 🥲

The way he played guitar.. I remember Jim Croce, James Taylor and Kenny Rankin… 😊😊😊👍
Every time I heard these song! It made me cry 😭😭😭 it reminds us how sad getting old 😢

Noel's a good friend to our late president Noynoy Aquino, and this song Kanlungan is one of his fave. Thank you so much for this rv.
Here is the English Translation of the song Kanlungan (Haven):
Haven
Chances are impermanent
Can the past be turned back?
Do you still remember
When the two of us first met?
Childhood years
Surrounded1 by flowers and plants
That's where we started
To dream and recite poems
Do you still remember

And the hibiscus flower I gave you
Holding hands at the shore
As free as the birds is
The memory of our past
The trees and plants
Are part2 of our memories
With the passing of time
Why did we also have to go?
Chances are impermanent
Can the past be turned back?
Now you came back
And your excitement is just like mine
To see the previous haven
Home of our poems and dreams
Now it's gone
Where to search still?
Time passes by
As part of our memories
The trees and plants
Why did they have to go?

This song brings sooo much memories from my childhood..... damn....
Same feeling here. Loggins is imbeded in the Philippines' 80's music. "Footloose" and "Poo's corner" are two of Kenny's most popular songs.

One of the reasons I studied acoustic guitar was because of this song. Josh was right, it's so soothing.

Let's try Rock music in the Philippines. Let's start with razorback.
Kenny Loggins "Return to Pooh Corner" is my favorite and it sounds alot like Kanlungan
