  • Hey everybody, and welcome! Today we’re going to try and sub closer to the handle of a 15 ounce coffee mug when using a mug press. If you’re like me, 11 ounce coffee mugs come out just great, but sometimes I get fading at the edge of the design when trying to sublimate a 15 ounce coffee mug in a mug press. So we’re going to try and adjust the mug to the left and press, then move the handle to the right and press.
    I’m using a Heat Press Nation Signature Series Mug Press with the 11oz/15oz attachment. I absolutely love this press, and it’s the only way I make tumblers nowadays (using the tumbler attachment). I’ve included my affiliate link. If you’re thinking of getting one, I’d greatly appreciate you using this link. It won’t cost you any additional money, but I’ll get a couple of dollars that I can reinvest into making these videos! (It’s also where I get all of my coffee mugs!)

    Interesting and thank you. I might have tried a longer first heat (150 ish) and then decreased the second cook time (100 ish). Logic: the mug is cold and the first press is bringing it to temp, now that it is preheated, the second press wouldn't need to be as long since it is primarily setting the dye on the last 1/2". Also, have you considered a 40 oz tumbler element? It may close down enough to get the heat right next to the handle. Thanks for the inspiration, and the time.

      I’ve tried to include heat up time in all my press times so I don’t have to worry about it! (The less math for me, the better!) I love the idea of looking into a 40oz press! Thanks for that suggestion! And thanks for watching!

      Any idea which 40 oz attachment would work with the HPN Signature Series

    • @VanTekConsulting
      @VanTekConsulting 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@clarkbarkev I have a PYD press. The element for 40 oz is slight large for the 15oz mug. I haven't tried, but maybe using a 1/4" thick silicone wrap, or whatever thickness takes up the space to allow clamping up to the handle would work. You would have to check with HPN to see which adapter is correct for your press.

      @@VanTekConsultingMy PYD 40 oz is coming today as I want to do larger jars in it. I can try the rubber mat for cups and see if that works. I just hate to use the oven.

    Thanks for the test. You got closer to the handle, but it's still faded as it gets closer. How do you handle that? I would want a clean, solid line there. Thanks!

    • @industrialfringe953
      @industrialfringe953  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, it got closer, but will never make it to the handle because of the width of the press attachment. For any coffee mug that I need to go close to or through the mug, I use an oven. This little test was basically to see just how close I could get with just a press. And you’re absolutely right, you can’t get all the way there without the fade beginning! Thanks for watching!

    How to avoid paper bubble after sublimating a mug …?

  • @ericksaint3837
    @ericksaint3837 ปีที่แล้ว

    I've noticed the temp drop in my flat press when attempting tiles, I wondered if it would help to hit things with a heat gun for a little while. That way when putting into the press there's already a warm object going in. In theory, it should help reduce that temp drop significantly.

    • @industrialfringe953
      @industrialfringe953  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Erick, that’s a great question. The cooling and heating back up of my tumbler in my press is included in my total bake time. So while I could heat up the tumbler, I would need to adjust my time, and I’ve got my time/temp dialed in perfectly for my machine. I suppose if I were trying to get my temp down, I could do that, but for me, it’s adding an additional step. I figure it’s just easier to include that heating back up time in the total cook. Thanks for watching!

    Watching this video,i think you answered a question unrelated to the video. I was wondering if you sublimate a tumbler or mug and someone likes it and wants one but with their name on it,if it is possible to press a second time without ruining the initial pressing.

    • @industrialfringe953
      @industrialfringe953  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey, Joe! I’ll typically just make a new tumbler for them, but if you needed to add a name to an already pressed tumbler/mug, you can. I really need to do a video about that, as a lot of people have asked. It can be a bit tricky, as you have to have enough heat to sub the name, but you can’t have too much to destroy the existing image. There are a few ways to do it. One way is to re-sub with the name in a press. The other is to use a heat gun. I don’t like the heat gun method as much, because it’s a little more hit or miss as far as the exact amount of time. Thanks for watching!

    First thank you for this video. It proves a huge point...I flip my mugs over and press as you say I had some better luck with it...but .Why don't we talk about the real issue here... The Heat Press Nation 11/15 oz element is only for the 11oz. They need to make bigger element for the 15oz. When I asked them about it. They said I was the only one who had a problem with it. It's ridiculous how far from the handle the element reaches. It is simply too small an element for 15oz. People need to contact HPN and ask them to get a separate element for the 15oz. I had to buy a completely different mug press for 15oz

    • @industrialfringe953
      @industrialfringe953  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You know, I agree! It would be so nice if the attachment were a little longer and could handle more of the 15 ounce size. I’ll suggest that as well! Thanks for watching!

    Those aren't good. It's faded. I have the same press. It's obviously an issue with the press. If it works fine with the 11oz but not the 15 then the attachment is too small. I have ruined so many mugs thinking I was doing something wrong. I wish I would have gotten a different press. The only way to prevent this is to shrink the image. But when you do that, it looks bad too bc there is alot of white space. They need a bigger attachment for the 15oz. The attachment is to small and it's false advertising. Aggregated.

    I was working on a full wrap for a 15oz while watching your vid. I used my messed up mugs to practice. Can you let us know what size wrap you would recommend since you did your tests? I made mine smaller to 8 inch but left about 1/2 an inch of paper on each side to make sure my design wasn’t so close to the edge.
    I will try the 125/side next time. Thank you for your videos!

      Hey! I don’t do full wraps on 15oz coffee mugs, so I can’t give an exact width. For me, the heating element just doesn’t go far enough to make it like I’d like.
