When i was handprinting, i found that sanding the block with like 400 grit sandpaper before drawing and carving lets me print much easier with less ink and pressure - smoother surface for easier transfer

Can you share steps in sequence when you’re printing multiple layers of color? I noticed that you only showed how you printed the second layer of color on the first block. You’re doing reduction prints, right? I’m interested to know your process for what to cutout for each layer and which colors are best to print first second, etc. and also are you using oil based ink? I’m asking since you soaked the paper after the first layer of color before printing the second layer.

Hey! Yes, this video is only of printing the second layer of this block (it's essentially what I'm doing in my studio that specific week). I will definitely do videos in the future showing the full process from start to finish (and have a non talking one of one of my projects available already).
To answer you questions
- yes they are reduction prints
- I go from lighter colors to dark and cut the layers accordingly (white cut away white first, lightest colour to show second and so on).
- yes, I Use caligo safewash oil inks and soak the paper as it's 200gsm with some texture

Hi, thanks for sharing your techniques. I'm interested in the way you wet the paper as I'm new to printmaking and i haven't come across this yet.
Firstly, why do you do it and is it for all paper or only specific ones?
How damp is the paper when you actually print on it?

I soak the paper because it is 200gsm cold pressed (textured) paper. It would never print cleanly if it were dry.
I soak off any surface water before I print, as this can impact the ink. I also use oil inks to print.
