what a helpful and inspiring video. thank you for sharing your wisdom with us.
Thank you for sharing!
Thank you.
Good vid 👍
Thank you!
What a great informative video. Thank you so much!
WOW Amazing. Thanks for sharing your talents
У карликов скоро начнётся полярная ночь. 😁
Just beautiful!!
Underrated! I'm in love with linocut art
That's really pretty
Thank you for sharing all that you do. I love the colour choices and combinations you use. Please could I ask how often you sharpen your cutting tools?
Thanks so much! To be honest, I am not the best at taking care of my tools. Some people hone their tools very often as they carve - I try to remember before I start carving at least. Real sharpening is something I would have someone else do for me (with a stone) - I'm yet to do this in five years, but may have to eventually to get the edge keen again.
Thank you. Amazing as always! What a labour of love 🌟💀
Hi, thank you for your help and inspiration. Please can you say why you soaked the paper before printing on it? Did it go into the press wet? I’m going to experiment myself, having found a pasta maker in a charity shop in the UK this week 😃 Really love your gothic style. Many thanks Teresa
Thanks so much, glad it's helpful! You do need to soak the paper for this kind of printing to make it pliable enough. Different kinds of paper will need a different level of water (handmade paper might just need a spray, water colour weight paper a full soak). The water needs to be absorbed off the printing surface though. All the best with your experiments! 😊
This is very interesting content
Your art style is amazing, makes me think of stopmotion
This is so cool. Where do you even learn a skill like this?
Thanks so much! I have a bunch of tutorials if you're interested in learning more about linocut 😊
I have no idea why this doesn’t have way more views
I'm in love with that print, the colors speak to me and the composition is eye catching.
Gorgeous! It's cool that people still do this. I've never actually seen the full process before
Awesome work! Cant believe the time it took to make that
I'm gonna show this to my niece. She wants a new hobby. Great work.
That is so freaking awesome 😮😮❤❤❤❤
That's incredibly satisfying to watch.
Your work is just amazing, beautiful and so inspiring!!!🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽
I love the finished piece. Character art and printmaking work beautifully together
Thank you so much. Tried my first reduction print this week, but I’ll be better next time thanks to you and your advice. Can you tell me how deep you carve? Do you ever flood fine lines and loose detail, and what do you do if that happens? Also, (sorry for all the questions) the EC46 Lyons graver, can you clear very small areas with it if you use the corner of the tool blade? Thank you again for your videos.
I'm glad it was helpful! Depth depends on the how big the space is - for a large clear area you take it right down (you'll notice I still needed to mask in the black layer after inking) - for small areas less so. Flooding fine details happens when you over ink - once this happens within a printing session it's hard to fix. Make sure you are rolling your ink out until it has a sticky hiss noise and apply in thin layers. You could probably use the corner of the graver but I would be more likely to use a u tool or a smaller graver (I have a smaller one that I would use for small square-ish shapes).
Thank you for the answers. Yes, my ink behaves very differently depending on the air temperature when I’m printing, and because I do very small prints with lots of detail, flooding does occur. I think I need to be more patient with thinner layers of ink on the block.
Great video!
WOW!
Lovely job! I was wondering how long you let the prints dry between 2 inks? Since these are water-washable inks (I personally use charbonnel aquawash), if you rewet them too soon to make the next layer, the ink may tend to dissolve on certain details. I was also wondering, I see that you let your final prints dry on a thread, doesn't the sheet end up curled as it dries? Thanks in advance for answering these questions
I wait several days or a week usually. I have never had details dissolved, but the next layer doesn't sit well unless dry. The paper warps a little due to being wet, although it's heavy enough not to curl, but a light mist and a press under something heavy flattens things out.
@@nicoleirwoodthanks !
Just wow! So informative and easy to understand. Thank you so much for this!
Thank you so much! I'm glad it was helpful. 😊

muito bom!! obrigada
Cool🎃👻 happy Halloween 👻
Spoookee....❤️
what amazing, hard work!!
this song summoned me from the depths of my brainrot!!
Thank you again for your video, and seeing you adjust the sketch when transferring it to the block was really useful. Please could I ask a couple of questions? What brand of fixing spray do you use? Can you roll water based ink over the fixing spray surface or do you have to remove the fixing spray before printing? Lastly, can you tell me in which order of colour you printed the block? I have only done mono coloured prints and would love to try a reduction print but I know I will struggle to work out the order of which sections to carve.
I'm glad it was helpful! - a cheap generic fixing spray, not sure which brand off the top of my head - I don't use water based ink but I suspect it would be fine. Perhaps do a test? You can also clean the block (which you do throughout reduction anyway). - great question! I hope to cover this in the next video in this series. But the general rule is light to dark. I will print grey/green, pink (there is less of this and I can control where it goes on the block, also the vibrancy of pink will upset the green more), then black. So some variations arise around colour vibrancy and amount of the colour to be applied. I would keep it simple to start with some version of monochrome.
Linocut requires such dedication and skills. But the result is mesmerizing. It's very beautiful the sketch and your work.
It definitely does - thank you 😊
Очень прекрасная книга, мне нравятся ваши линогравюры. Карлики одобряют.
Thanks so much 😊
Thank you, such an interesting video! Your work is so beautiful and I really got a lot out of your explanations of your process.
Thank you so much! I'm so glad you found it helpful ☺️
Curious. What did you spray on the Lino after transferring the design? I’ve never seen anyone do that.
A fixing spray - just to stop the pencil moving around while I carve.
Thank you for sharing your work and processes and taking the extra time to film and edit it all. Your ideas and talent is inspiring.
Карлики, опять первые сообщение написали, холодает у нас, скоро зима.
Incredible vibes in the place
С весной Вас Николь, у карликов осень и скоро зима)))
Oh interesting never heard of this water technique before, could you elaborate more?
Oooo… that’s super cool!
Oh dear! Sorry to hear your winter was so miserable. Here in the UK we imagine Aus must be just gloriously warm and sunny all year round, but a drafty house is no fun even in "mild" weather. I hope you got settled happily into your new home without too much stress. Embrace all the baggy clothes and elasticated waistlbands whenever those cold, wet months roll around again! 🤗
That's beautiful work, and a very instructional and inspiring video.
