  • Two tools that are often used synonymously but it's important to know the differences as well as what different free and paid for add on's can be used to quickly achieve them.

    If you need to Mirror your object on an axis that is not aligned to the XYZ axis, you can create and Empty>Plain Axis or a Plane (move and rotate into place). Select this Empty/Plane object in the 'Mirror Object' section of your modifier.
    Saved me some effort when i was working at an angle not at the origin.

      That's a good tip. The flick mirror tool from Machin3 Tools does exactly that, which is really nice.

    I guess it’s also good to add, when would you pick to symmetrise vs mirror?

    • @ArtisansofVaul
      @ArtisansofVaul  ปีที่แล้ว

      That's a good question. Sometimes I use the symeterise just because it's faster than coming out of edit mode 😅 And then I use the mirror because I'm going to keep making changes and I don't want to have to symmeterize each time I do. The other thing with mirror is you can mirror across another object to effevtively make another copy on the other side, which is really helpful.

    I was using hard-ops the other day to mirror some text and I could not work out how to get it the correct way round on the mirrored side, rather than back to front - I'm sure I'm missing something simple and fundamental here! it does lead to the larger question of how much you can manipulate what you are mirroring 🤔?

      So mirroring by its very nature will flip it and for text that means it will be the wrong way around. What you want to do is, if the text is just coming after the original or above or below, like repeating itself, is to use an array. If you want the text on the other side of an object but then the text to be the other way around you'd want a linked copy. I've got a video on that coming this Monday on the Patreon or in a week's time on TH-cam.

    holy smokes the bandwidth of the information being delivered here exceeds comprehension. if it's for experts... wouldn't they already know it?

    • @ArtisansofVaul
      @ArtisansofVaul  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      😂 I'd had a few comments at the time of recording this asking for things to be faster because it's a video so it can always be rewatched. Since this I decided there's also a speed control so I'd rather explain at a pace that feels natural (even if it does mean less views as people seem to generally watch the videos 8-10mins long more)

      @@ArtisansofVaul didn't mean as a sleight against you, you're not the only Blender pro that flies through tutorials, it ought to be a meme really. just lots of bandwidth is all, my monster beverages can't keep up :)

      @@intelligenceservices Haha. I didn't take it as a slight at all, don't worry. I appreciate feedback and just wanted to explain the reasoning behind it in this video. I think you'll find the other videos aren't generally as fast unless I have prefaced it with an "expert" warning :p

    "To mirror this, we would do something like that."
    Saying what "that" is would have been useful for the noobs watching this.

    • @ArtisansofVaul
      @ArtisansofVaul  ปีที่แล้ว

      I assume you didn't watch the rest of the video from your comment. The first part discusses the theory and then goes through the different ways of achieving the mirror or symmetrize functions (there are multiple ways so breaking the theory discussion at the beginning would have been very disjointed).
