"A lot of people call it Rancid 2000, I call it Rancid 5. You can call it whatever you want."
Oooh, I call it the greatest Rancid record released!!
I allways wanted to hear this song live
imagine the whole album played live...
I love this series because a lot of his nuances are lost under the drums and distortion at regular levels. This lets you see every note…and theres a lot of notes
Matt is the best bass player in the world!!!
Yep, dude!
Ditto!
Really the better bass player
best rock bass pick player, hands down
Duuuuuuude, the solo when he goes from the G string to the E string, always my favorite part! Love to actually get to watch it happen, those transitions are nuts.
Exactly!! Glad I have a reference for it now 😉
My prayers have been answered 🙏🏻
My favorite Rancid album, glad you picked that one, underrated song for sure !
Hell yeah! I remember when the album came out, there was a show at the Métropolis in Montréal, for sure the most intense mosh pit in my life
I don't know why but seeing Matt smiling while he plays is so fucking contagious. :)
Your bass playing on the Rancid 5 album has to be the best basswork on any punk album ever. It is probably my favorite and this song itself is phenomenal.
Ok, everyone knows how technically sound Matt is. What I don’t think gets talked about enough is how good his songwriting is. The fact that some of these bass parts are so involved yet fit so perfectly speaks to how good of a songwriter Matt Freeman is, and knows exactly what a song needs on bass.
Truly the epitome of what you want as a band member and musician.
I can’t even express how valuable I think Matt Freeman is to the success and longevity of Rancid.
Literally one of my fav rancid songs ever, you killed it on this record man, huge inspiration Matt. Much love
Now I know, my favourite album ever is called "Whatever you want"! Young al capone yeaaah
Super underrated album. My favorite out of all of them.
I may not like every Rancid record, but I know the best bass player in punk rock when I see him.
That’s my favorite Rancid album. Actually it’s a 4 way tie but that’s one of the 4 😎
I could say lots of very positive things about Matt Freeman. How dope his playing is, how sick his bass lines are, how fluid and skilled he is on bass. Those are all true. But, the most positive thing I can say is, “Matt makes me want to pick up my bass and play” bc he does. Thank you for that.
Great album. Great Song. These videos are Gold.❤
Man, that Fender bass is the luckiest bass in the world to have such a great owner! Awesome! 👀❤️🎸
This is the most amazing bass lines in all Rancid songs. Young Al Capone is the best song of the album because it is fast e because of the bass.
This is the hardest this teeny cell phone speaker has ever rocked! Fuck yea Matt Freeman!
HOLY SHIT I CAN'T BELIEVE HE WENT THERE
A few weeks ago I was like "but he probably won't do Young Al Capone" .... and here we are :)
two and a half minutes of sheer joy
Matt's bassline is amazing and this song is also cool🎶
"Dead Bodies" with Lars' vocals has the same style and is also cool🔥
Fucking incredible. Hands down the best bass player I've had the pleasure of seeing live. Cheers Matt and hope to see you again soon!
One of my favorite songs and now I can play it correctly. Thanks for the effort.
Song fucking owns! Rock and roll in its purest fucking form!
And rocking one of my new favorite bands, The Interrupters. Love it!
Fuck yeah!
Never thought I'd hear Matt Freeman say "Lets see if I can pull this off."
Love seeing you play some op Ivy stuff! You know all rancid fans would love to see this live or for a reunion!
Would also love to see you play some more rare stuff like the song “left behind” by op ivy or even going back to your time in Downfall!
When you first started doing these, this was the one I wanted to see the most. My favorite album of you guys, and one of the wildest bass lines out of an amazing career. Thanks for posting it! Love the shirt too :)
Really amazing bass player & amazing song !!! Matt Freeman is Goat
That was insane! That song doesn't immediately come to mind when you think of the greatest Rancid basslines, but it will from now on.
Dude, I was waiting so much for that song here
Awesome, one of my favorite bass lines ever!!!!!
this dude literally made me wanna play bass along with my guitar back in the day. very cool to see him ripping all these rad tracks.
My favorite record
I’m sure everyone here would love to see you play axiom!!!
Damn it, I thought I could only dream about it. One of the best bass parts, so interesting and diverse. Thank you Matt
AMAZING LIKE ALWAYS!!! please do born frustrated soon
Just mesmerised watching you play ❤
The riffs in this song remind me of a push mower that doesn't quite want to start, then it does at max rpms, and then it dogs down for a sec and you think its gonna die, then just takes right off again and you feel like a boss after you mow your 10x20 ft yard. Mmmmm...that's good stuff.
that description is good stuff! 😂
these videos bring me so much joy! thanks for sharing matt 🔥
Very nice song too
I love that guy
Remember the material of the original Discs. man, those old flip cases. The materials were beautiful i had them all. From life won't wait until Dominoes Fall
Oh fuck yeah
Fuck yeah
Love this channel, Matt.
Dude that's great! I was just listening to this song the other day thinking that you should throw this on the bass bunker! love the deep cuts
Holy crap you are awesome! I don't know which hand is wilder. I have practiced a lot of your bass patterns over the years and it has helped me improve my playing. Thank you and hopefully we will hear more bass solos in the future!
Matt the 🐐
Matt, you're graying lol. With love DeadGrrr Fallen Foe!
One of the rancid’s best albums

Found this page thanks to Low End University. This is amazing...recently revived my love for bass. Matt, you were one of the bassists that got me playing as a teenager, what id give for these videos back then!😂 ive got plenty of watching to do. Thanks man. Legend 👊
Hell yeah! This is one of my favorite songs from one of my favorite records! 🎉
🔥🔥🔥🔥
Effortless. So awesome.
Greatest of all time!!!
Thank you Matt! Always love seeing these and this was a special one. I remember buying this album listening to it in my car and being blown away by your sound on every song.
Holy hell!! That’s it that’s the comment. Whew!!
Do 'Not to Regret', it's my favorite of that album!
Yessssssss thank you Matt! This is probably my favorite bass part of yours (though it’s impossible to pick)
The baseline in this song is so sick.
You were definitely a big reason I decided to pick up a bass like 20 years ago in middle school. Good shit man!
When the man himself shakes his head at the end and says "Man, that song's fast."
Makes me think of the line from the 1989 Michael Keaton Batman when after the Joker thug shoots him he says "He's human after all."
Siiiiick! Rad vibes!
fucjink awesome
He' s a master....This song is so god....
Great album. Super underrated.
