I made this leash as my very first paracord project. It turned out beautifully! I used two black strands and one grass green and one lime green. I made the decorative herringbone knots blacks. Since I didn't have any experience splicing in different colors, I did a few small practice runs. The herringbone knot took me three tries but with patience and your careful instruction I was able to make it. I'm thrilled with the result, I wish I could upload a photo. Anyway, your instruction technique is thoughtful and clear, thank you!.
In the past ( like in the 70's) I've made many various knots in the practice of macrame. Formerly using hemp rope and waxed string. Parachute cord is a "auh-ha" moment. After all men were wearing parachute pants. Good job. I'm going to do this!!
I really want to do this for my dog because it looks great, but I have never done anything like that before and I don't know if I can do it. I already got everything I need and I hope I can make it look as good as this one!
Can this be done using 4 strands instead of 2 in order to make a thicker leash? If so would you do a video on that? I'm enjoying all of your videos, you explain very well.
Hey! You start at the very beginning of the strands. Work your way through each strand and tighten it until you reach the end of the strand. Do it several times, each time tightening a bit more. The first tightening is the most important. It should be fairly loose and is intended to shape the knot. I hope that helps. Let me know! Mark
I really like this knot(s) and will try to complete mine. I need to suggest something that will help us the learner to follow better. On the deck (table top) please a dross hair sites and an outside box at the limit of the camera. This way yu will have a reference to guild you to keep the knot with in view at all times for the viewer.
First off, ive been wanting to do this one for months now amd the herringbone intimidated me enough to stay away from it but i finally decided to tie rhis last night. But i need some help please Mark! Only problem I'm having is where to hide the ends of the herringbone knot to make the last bights on the left. I've tied the knots over and over and can't seem to get it to look right or tighten well. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks Mark and as always, great tutorial
Hey there! First of all, great job coming this far! The herringbone is indeed tricky at that part. Maybe this tutorial can shed some light? th-cam.com/video/j0lz4YzSNAw/w-d-xo.html Let me know if that helps or I will make a tutorial for you. Mark
Paracord guild thanks for the reply! I watched that video also. Just couldn't tell if the cords pass another bight, or enter the knot where they exit. I've tried both ways but I think I'm missing something. I'll watch some more videos and see if I can understand it a little better. Thanks again Mark!
Hi Mark, I'm interested in making the knots using the same method you do in the video but they'd be with 8 strands instead of 4. Am I correct in thinking the process would be the same only with 4 extra unders/overs? Last, I'd like to tie a turks head that is entirely made up of single under 1 over 1 passes resulting in basically a diamond or checkerboard knot. Do you know how I'd start something like that with 8 strands as well? Thanks so much. Be well.
It is a wonderful guide, which I understand very well (German). This line looks beautiful and I want to make it with a total length of 90 cm. How long is the lead in the video when it is finished? Or else asked how much length Paracord do I need for a 90 cm leash?
Thanks for the great video! I'm wondering if you would share information on the needle you used. Where do you get that kind of thing that's the right width for paracord? I'm currently using hemostats to pull through cord ends but it's not working well. Thanks again!
The knot (didn't catch its name) before you start making it into the herringbone knot, is that very strong when tightened? I have two large dogs. One is 79 lbs (35kg) and one is 57 lbs (26kg) and I don't want it snapping if they decide to pull but I also don't want the bulky herringbone knot although it does look nice. Thank you in advance if you answer.
Hey! So you mean the multi strand turk's head knot? Well if you finish it properly, then it can work. You still need to feed the ends under the knot, then tighten it firmly (if that makes sense). Doing a good splicing matters a lot as well (sometimes the splicing is all you need- I have seen leashes with no finishing knots at all). Mark
the re tightening part is what keeps getting me- I feel like you should have left that part in because us less intelligent people(meaning me) don't know where to pull actually GET it to tighten instead of ruining the structure of the whole herringbone knot
This was a great instruction for the Matthew walker knot and the herringbone turkshead. the start of your 4 strand braid could have been neater and you wouldn't have needed the 2nd herringbone, but still it looks nice =)
This is really neat and you are a brilliant instructor, but my brain short-circuited around the 5 minute portion of this video. 🤔 I find it much easier to just pull out my wallet.
I need to try this when I don't have anything re: govt on in the background. Bc see, now I got to stop this video and go throw in my 2-cents about this whole jeff sessions situation. Darrrnnaa I'll be bok. Smh.

Is it just me or is this just the most relaxing way to learn parachord techniques? I enjoy so much your voice while learning....great video

Silvia C congrats:)

Fantastic. It'll be tough but I'm doing it
I can't tie a knot, so I always tie a lot. I'm gonna try this, great tutorial.
Can you give some insight into the best way to tighten the larger knot?
Thanks so much!

Wonderful. Thank you
Is there a rule of thumb for determining the length of paracord you need for a specific project?
Hey great tutorial, it's 4 o 5 mm wide?
Beautiful and very good instructions. Thanks!!! :)
Can you make a tutorial for a collar?!
beautiful! thank you for the tutorial. I'll definitely be using your guide as i create one of these!

What needle do you use? I like the look of yours and the tips on mine keep bending...
Do you have any videos for making a lanyard?

Hey! The lead, including the handle is 3 feet (90cm long).
Mark
Thank you for your answer 👍
Hello, how many meters of paracord are required?
Thanks for the great video!

Miss Shelley May one strand of 550 paracord 5/32 can handle 110 pounds by itself and with it braided could probably hold 180 or more I'm just guessing
Lacing needle?
the tightening process makes no sense to me and i end up with a wonky looking knot. Please include it in videos in the future :')
gracias exelente video explicativo....
a bracelet version of this tutorial would be nice
Nice job! thanks.
hey how can i do the 4 strand braid
wow...really its brilliant

Excelente, gracias!
What is a good unit conversion? I want to make 4, 5 and 6 ft leashes. Thank you
Thanks! I'm going to try to make one.

Fantastic!!
Will this hold a 150lb dog? 🙂
Well, each cord has a static load strength of 550lbs. There are 4 in the leash. Usually the weak part of the leash is the metal :).
@@Paracordguild thank you. That's what I was wondering... looking for a good clip. Thank you 🙂
Actually you are only getting the strength of 2 cords not 4. There are only 2 connected to the clip. But even 1 cord should be good enough for 150#.
what diameter paracord are you using?
Hey!
This is type 3 paracord (550 paracord). It is about 3mm in diameter.
Mark
q tipo de hilo es?
what is the name fo the needle you use?
Hi, this is paracord 550?
Hey!
Yeah, paracord 550.
