How to make a two-peg spool knit paracord lanyard

The two-peg spool knit can be found in 'The Ashley Book of Knots' as #2878, a Square Loop Sinnet, along with other variations.
For quick deployment of the cord, should you need to repurpose it from the lanyard, just cut off one end below the lanyard knot, unlock the knit by pulling the end strand out of the loop, and pull to quickly unravel the length of cord.

Working with just two pegs is similar to using a 'lucet', a two-pronged fork cord making textile tool, dating back at least as far as the middle ages. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lucet
How much cord is needed for a particular project varies by cord diameter and the spool peg spacing you intend to use, how many pegs being used, so although there may be a mathematical formula for each instance, it would be different for every project, I usually just overestimate what I think I'll need and add more to that, better to have too much than to come up short on a project. If you do come up short, you could always sew/melt/glue/knot in more cord to continue.
You can improvise and make your own spools or buy them at craft stores/online, but making your own is recommended to get the knit however tight or loose, stiff or flexible as you prefer. You can use nails, cotter pins, bobby pins along with PVC pipe, epoxy, and tape, or make them from wood, aluminum, steel, or toilet paper roll cardboard tubes and popsicle sticks. ;) - แนวปฏิบัติและการใช้ชีวิต

I didn't care for the spool, so I went to my shop, got some scrap wood 3" X 2" x 3/4" and used a 1 1/4" hole saw thru the middle, then used 2 brand new nails with small heads. This is very sturdy and easy.
That is a very nice looking job.
When I did this the lanyard wasn't tight like yours out of the bottom. I had hoped I could tighten it after the fact but I think I need to remake it ;)
After looping over two or three pegs give a pull downward on the knitted section to tighten it up as you work. If it's still loose, it could be that the pegs on your spool are spaced too far apart for the cord you're using.

Question. Could this knit go around a core such as a steering wheel? I wrapped my steering wheel in a simple loop through loop style, but I want to try something a bit smoother.
+HAVOK RP Group You can knit cord around a steering wheel, but you wouldn't be able to do it with a knitting spool. Search for some examples of knitting and crochet for those techniques. ;)

In the video example, I set the two pins at 1 3/4" apart, but you can set them closer on a smaller spool for a tighter pattern, you really have to experiment with different spools and numbers of pegs and spacing to find how tight or loose your personal preference is. Paracord from different vendors can vary in size somewhat, so one brand may end up working out tighter/looser than another on the same spool. There are some vendors that sell paracord spools, like Jig Pro Shop and ExtremePara, for those that don't want to make their own. ;)

hello, im doing the exact braid and it looks just like yours BUT it real real lose how do you keep the braid tight while doing this??? can you please give me advice on this?
*night_stalker1975 * If you're getting a too loose/spaced out pattern, try setting your spool pins closer together, which will make for a tighter pattern. I set mine at 1.75 inches apart for my personal preference with 550 paracord. For a tighter pattern, I would set the pins at about 1.5 inches apart, any closer and it gets too hard to work the cord over the pins. If you're using a different type/sized/diameter of cord than paracord, the spacing of the pins will also be different than with 550 paracord, so adjustment of the pins will vary and you'll have to test tie each type of cord to find exactly where you want the spacing of the pins to be set. Hope that helps. ;)

would a smaller diameter give you a tighter weave? I completed the weave, but it looks too loose to me. Is there a way to tighten the weave>

how does one do that with 3 different color strings?? would that be possible??
Tina K With just a two peg spool/lucet, if you hold three colors together and treat them as one, you can do that, but the spacing of the pegs might need to be different depending on the size/type of cord you're using.
Where did you get that clip thing at the end?
The swivel snap hook came from Creative Designworks and the Leatherman Carabiner can be found on ebay and amazon and other various online vendors. ;)

how long would a 50ft rope make doing this?
+Chris Freeland The 17 foot lenght of 550 paracord used in the video made a lanyard that was around a couple feet long when finished, so 50 feet of cord would come near tripling that result, so you might end up with about a +/- 6 foot long finished project, provided you used the same diameter cord and pin set up on the spool as shown in the video. If you alter any of those variables, thinner or thicker cord/spool pin spacing, you could get something longer or shorter.
intreasting.didnt really pay attention to paracord bands and any inconsistencies.im hopeing their weight limits are all the same as rated though lol.i plan to make my own.im a diy guy.

***** That's up to you depending on how long you want to make your lanyard. I used a 17 foot long strand in the video, but you can work directly from a spool or long hank of paracord, no need to pre-cut a length.

Something went wrong from 04:33. You just skipped the explaination. Then it was some mofo complicated trick, and - oops!, - you have the knot, I have something comparable to corded beard. And yes, I tried it several times. 14 exactly.
+Igor Pro That part is the tying of the 'lanyard knot' and adjustment for the loop size and tucking the end, which I have an older video for just that specific knot if you need to see it shown separately. There are annotations/notes shown with the video as it plays, make sure you do not have them turned off in your TH-cam settings. The video plays fine when I checked it from that point, so not sure what you're not getting with tying the lanyard knot on the ends...
