You have the best teaching style. Slow enough to follow and not get confused and not too many words and repetition rather than saying " just keep doing that " You reind us each time what to do. Thanks for loving your art and sharing it with us. Love and Peace, Catherine
Brother, your repetitive instructions, make this a perfect tutorial, so many people just show you once or twice, covering the rope with their fingers. Please continue your repetitive direction and camera work. You have taught me perfectly, keep up the great work my friend!! Greetings from the Northeast
THIS IS WHAT YOU CALL TUTORIAL! SLOW AND DETAILED FROM THE MEASUREMENT TO BRAIDING AND CONNECTING THE CORD. VERY HELPFUL FOR BEGINNERS LIKE ME. THANK YOU THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! GOD BLESS YOU.🙏 New subscriber here. 😊
Great tutorial. I just made a 12' long leash doing this. I used 45' long lengths of paracord in case anyone is curious. Also I skipped the decorative knots to get the max length I just spliced the ends back through the leash for about 6 turns and melted the ends.
I really enjoyed your tutorial. It is the first time I have EVER subscribed to anything on youtube. You move slowly and explain everything as you are doing it so that it is easy to follow. I am new to this and I can't wait to get started on making them. Thanks for the lesson!
This is my favorite braid for a dog leash. It's fast and makes a leash with a circular cross-section that's large enough to grip easily. I love the turk's head finishing knot too. That makes it easy to feel when the end of the leash is near when it's slipping through your hand. I walk shelter dogs as a volunteer and I've made four leashes of various lengths based on the instructions in this excellent video. I use a Petzl Ange S carabiner for attaching the leash to a collar or for clipping to the leash body to make a slip-collar. Thanks Mark! Great job!
I think I'll make this, but with two snap hooks on each end and rings in the leash at several distances, so I can adjust the length of the leash. This tutorial is very thorough and easy to follow. And I gotta say, your voice is very soothing to listen to!
Thanks so much for this tutorial, I made a leash for some friends in their favourite AFL team’s colours and it looks so great - it will be a fantastic present to give them, thanks again :)
This is a great tutorial! I had difficulty keeping track the footrope knot, and kept running the last pair incorrectly. To fix this I ended up wrapping each pair of cords with tape about 6" from the square knot, then taping the ends of each pair together and labeling them. I keep the square knot tight and only thread the tips of each pair through until I have all four pairs through.
Sweet lord almighty..bless your heart. I will no longer have to be admitted due to the fact I’m getting all tangled up 😅. Thank you yet again for awesome videos. Love watching and you make it look so easy. Top notch 👍👍👍
About to try this out, your tutorial is very clear and easy to follow. I've been looking for a leash pattern that will hold big dogs securely and this seems perfect. The leash looks pretty which is even better. Thank you so much! Subbed to your channel after watching this 😃
Sir, big fan of your vids. I REALLY appreciate that you showed how to tighten and a super easy turks head finish! I have been struggling with that. Tango Alpha Lima!
merci beaucoup pour votre vidéo, j'ai tout compris grâce à vos explications très claires et je comprends tout ce que vous dites parce que vous parlez lentement, c'est mieux pour moi qui ne maîtrise pas l'anglais😊😊 Thank you!!
When I was a child, we called this lanyard weave, the 'Diamond'. I used 2 colors as you suggested, but I put opposite colors side-by-side, for an interesting herring-bone effect. I also get a neater start by first putting the lower right, behind to the left, and the lower left, in front to the right. Then on as you said. This start is especially important if you make something that does not have a ring or knot at the start to hide the irregularity. re 9:40 I found that my ends were not still even, so I adjusted them all again, also further tightening the ring loops too. re 14:00 It helps to frequently, untangle the ends, so the tangle does not interfere with your weaving. re 30:55 I like your decorative end better than burying the ends of the splice inside the weave approaching the handle, but I pulled them only part-way along under the outer layer, and then out, perpendicular to the leash, cutting & melting them, and tucking the melted tips back, invisibly inside the turks-head. PS: I don't know about 'lazy', but certainly contemplative. Very nice reminder of a forgotten craft. Thank you.
Excellent tutorial! Thank you. I have made a couple of leashes with this method for my dog and they are working out very well. I have a fairly good size dog. A Shepherd and lab mix.
Is the length of the leash including the loop to create the collar handle, or is it excluded? If I need 1.5 meters of leash excluding the handle, how many meters of rope do I need?
Supernice tutorial, right amount of info mathcing speed easyto follow. Only thing id say with the splicing for the handle, when u say add 1 maybe 2 more depending the dog. Well Paracord is such and extremly tough cord that can withstand allot of weight, so even a leash like thiswith 4 strands braided up into 1 big strand is enough for most sized dogs ( unless maybe u have some of those monstor size/weight dogs ) Altough that might even work. Its in anyways much tougher than leather and they use that for big and heavy dogs too so ...
Excellent video! I will be getting a service dog about a year from now and creating his first working leash would be fantastic. What is that tool you're using for the splicing? I really want one for my projects. Thankyou for taking the time to do these tutorials, it makes my life much easier! 😊
Hey! Thank you for your kind comment. That tool is a marline spike, mounted on a folding knife. The one I am using is this one: amzn.to/2Gs4M4L. It is a great value. Honestly though, I have never really used the knife part, the spike is what I really like. Mark
Nancy Thane it's a nicely explained video for sure. The ex British army knifes have the Marlin spike on them from the 1970&80's all stainless steel construction...awesome and the blade can be shaved with I have one fantastic piece of solid kit. Hope the dog helps when you get them 😎🇦🇺
Nice! Does this leash offer any amount of elasticity or does it get progressively tighter and more rigid each time the dog darts forward or pulls hard on it? Is the elasticity of the leash down to the type of cord used? or down to the weaving pattern as well?
Hi! I have a question about the final product! Since I prefer big leash for a better grip, can you tell me the measurement of the circumference of the leash? Thank you very much!
I am OK with beginning the braid. However, when I stop and come back I can not get back into the correct braiding routine. I can not tell which pair of strands go where. Can you offer some hints about how to start again after stopping or after making an error and discovering it is not the correct braid?
Folks, sorry to ask a dull question, but I'm new in this area....what thickness of cord will be best for this kind of work? I'll guess it will be 3mm? Thx for reply. Roger
Hi Mark, can you tell me where you get your paracord? If for any reason(s) you can't; can you tell me if it is just regular 550. I'm just curious because in the videos it appears satin-like which makes the colors really stand out. Also it appears a little beefier than the paracord 550 that I have. Thanks
Love this tutorial. My only word of caution is with cord length. Always size larger than you think you will need. With the last 1ft of cord used for the decorative knots I sized the other 16ft up by 25% shooting for a 5ft leash using 21ft lengths of cord. When I got down to the last foot of unwoven cord, I found I only had 3.5ft of length *before* looping back for the handle. Due to the short length, this one is probably not going to be very functional.
A marlin spike. But any blunt tipped stick will do - crochet needles, a piece of plastic hanger that's been filed/sanded to a long tapered point. Or my personal favorite: the round-tipped needle-nosed pliers you use in making wire jewelry
Thanyou friend.

Love the way you teach, very patient and very clear on your instruction. No fast paced taking, love it. Love it.
Thank you for showing it slowly and with patience and first of all: without video cuts! :)

Glad to hear it! The decorative knots are naturally optional.

This is a great tutorial.......not so fast and with clear colors...this is now easy to do...thank you so much
This is the clearest tutorial I’ve ever come across - thank you so much!
your video tutorials are so calm and easy to follow... thank you you have just made me thirty bucks
Glad to hear positive comments like that! Good luck with your future business! Leashes really look great done in paracord.
Right that's my next hobby sorted! Best instructional video I've seen.
The best I have seen so far. You have to appreciate the pace... well done and thank you.
Thank you very much. I made a twenty feets long leash for my dog with your tutoriel. It was difficult for the last rod but it was finally a success!!
I think I'll make this, but with two snap hooks on each end and rings in the leash at several distances, so I can adjust the length of the leash. This tutorial is very thorough and easy to follow. And I gotta say, your voice is very soothing to listen to!
Can you pleaseshow me how to...or...a picture of the rings in the leash at different distances so that the length can be adjusted
Thanks so much for this tutorial, I made a leash for some friends in their favourite AFL team’s colours and it looks so great - it will be a fantastic present to give them, thanks again :)

Whew. done. It took me the better part of 2 days but I did it. Thanks for the great video. (The knot at the top is the knot from h*ll. )
Still, you made something not a lot of people can! And you can now make any further ones in half the time.
Good job!
Mark
@@Paracordguild Just started my second leash, its going much much better. Thanks for your amazing instructions.
Just what I was looking for! And so very clearly explained!
Perfect!👏👏👏 Greetings from The Netherlands: 12 points!!!
Great tutorial! Anyone could make this after watching your tutorial!
Sweet lord almighty..bless your heart. I will no longer have to be admitted due to the fact I’m getting all tangled up 😅. Thank you yet again for awesome videos. Love watching and you make it look so easy. Top notch 👍👍👍

Holy cats! That crown knot is an enterprise in frustration. Got it, though... time to braid.
This is so awesome. I truly appreciate your method of teaching. You have helped me a lot. Thank you very much.
Best video on the subject that I have seen. Thank you.
Great work ! thank you for explaining slowly and clearly showing how its done.
Thank you, i have a shelter and buying good strong things cost me loads. Now i make them for much less, strong and how i want them to be!!
Indeed. And they are super durable.
Sir, big fan of your vids. I REALLY appreciate that you showed how to tighten and a super easy turks head finish! I have been struggling with that. Tango Alpha Lima!

Thank you for you excellent way of showing us the way to do a finishing knot. You are amazing!

I have been struggling with a similar knot but you have made it so much easier for me! Thank you!!!!
Your explanation was very easy to follow thank you excellent
What is the tool you are using at 15:21, when you weave the ends back through the cord? Looks like a pocket knife
It's about time someone named something after me!😁
I need to make a leash for the dog's of my daughter and the mpmmy got little dogs
Excellent tutorial! Thank you. I have made a couple of leashes with this method for my dog and they are working out very well. I have a fairly good size dog. A Shepherd and lab mix.
Hey!
Indeed, this way of making leashes offers a ton of advantages. The weak point of the leash is actually the metal hardware, not the cord :).
Is the length of the leash including the loop to create the collar handle, or is it excluded? If I need 1.5 meters of leash excluding the handle, how many meters of rope do I need?
You're an excellent teacher!
Wouldn’t it be easier to temporarily tape the ends of your cords together before starting the leash?
It would be nice to have a follow up on how to do a secure knot at the end without making a loop
I think you could just tie another crown knot at the end w/o the loop.
How long should the rope be and when it’s finished how long is the leash
Supernice tutorial, right amount of info mathcing speed easyto follow.

Do you strip the inner part of the cord before starting?
What langth of each color cord would I nead to make a 9ft leash?👍
How much paracord i need for 1,2 meters leash ?
Hii...loved your video ❤️ I want to know can we make same pattern with cotton cords...if yes , than what changes will we have to make
How would you turn this design into a collar?
Where did you get your Boatswains knife at? Not the Swiss Army knife. It would make tying some knots a lot easier.
This tutorial was just amazing
How much would you sell it after is finished, please respond I am your big fan
Love it! Where can I get a marlin spike like the one you are using in this video?
Excellent video! I will be getting a service dog about a year from now and creating his first working leash would be fantastic. What is that tool you're using for the splicing? I really want one for my projects. Thankyou for taking the time to do these tutorials, it makes my life much easier! 😊

its called an awl and you will get one at a boat chandlers

Nice! Does this leash offer any amount of elasticity or does it get progressively tighter and more rigid each time the dog darts forward or pulls hard on it? Is the elasticity of the leash down to the type of cord used? or down to the weaving pattern as well?
Hey!
The material used is not elastic. The braid stretches a bit until it settles into its final length.
Very nice video and very clear. The best I have seen. However you used one tug here. Can you describe how to make more?
Could you use this tutorial to make a lanyard ?
Any tips on dealing with the other end of cord during the braiding? I spend way too much time untangling the loose ends.
I'm having the same problem. The working ends are being braided as well and I can't get far without having to untangle them.
Is it normal that my braiding lines came up shorter than the ones in the center??
Is it possible to make this pattern with 3 collors?
Can you show how to end this without the handle?
It would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.
What size of paracord are you using? 1/4" or 1/8"
Hey!
This one would be closer to 1/8"- it is called paracord 550 or type 3 paracord.
Your videos are top notch. Very good, helpful. Thank You
Thank you for your kind comment!
Mark
Mark I am a big fan of your videos an made several of them, can you please tell me how much could they be sold for, thank you so much.
Hi! I have a question about the final product! Since I prefer big leash for a better grip, can you tell me the measurement of the circumference of the leash? Thank you very much!
Extremely good and detailed tutorial! Amazing job indeed.
Thank you for the kind comment!
Excellent tutorial! Very nice looking leash, I’m definitely going to make one.
I am OK with beginning the braid. However, when I stop and come back I can not get back into the correct braiding routine. I can not tell which pair of strands go where. Can you offer some hints about how to start again after stopping or after making an error and discovering it is not the correct braid?
Curtis Beeman it says to start again with the strand furthest back (furthest away from you)
Folks, sorry to ask a dull question, but I'm new in this area....what thickness of cord will be best for this kind of work? I'll guess it will be 3mm? Thx for reply. Roger
Hey! Paracord is usually considered about 3 or 4 mm in diameter.
Suppose that you wanted to end the braid at another snap hook or carabiner. What knot(s) would you use? Is there a tutorial for that already?
what size paracord is used?
What is the size of the cord used in this video? Is it 2mm or 3mm? I just purchased a 6mm paracord which is WAY too wide to use!
Hi Mark, can you tell me where you get your paracord? If for any reason(s) you can't; can you tell me if it is just regular 550. I'm just curious because in the videos it appears satin-like which makes the colors really stand out. Also it appears a little beefier than the paracord 550 that I have. Thanks
Muchas gracias, excelente! Muy bien explicado, gracias, ví otros vídeos pero no explican bien pero tú explicaste muy bien y muy claro, gracias.
Each strand is 5.2 meters or between the two they join the 5.2 meters?
Wonderful, wonderful explanation. Can’t wait to get started
Hello. Can I ask you, how much meters I need for 130cm and for 180cm leash? Thank you and have a nice day.
I just finished mine, used 12 meters for a 120cm leash, So I'm guessing this is 1:10
Simple proportions
This is a really great tutorial!!! Thank you so much!
Thank you for this. Going to give it a go tomorrow.
Hi i will try to my dog that rope name what please tell me
Made it with just one change, I added 3 D-rings to hang a poop bag, poop bag dispenser, and flashlight. Thank you.
how many mm is the string?
Thank you, just got new pups, did a square knot leash for one and doing this for the other. 🙂
Could I use 16feet instead of 17???
Should work, you will get dog leash a few inches shorter.
Olá! Onde se encontra as medidas das cordas verde e azul?
what is the name of the weave?
The main weave would be called an 8 stranded Lazy man's braid. Essentially a 4 stranded round braid done 2 cords at a time.
Love this tutorial. My only word of caution is with cord length. Always size larger than you think you will need. With the last 1ft of cord used for the decorative knots I sized the other 16ft up by 25% shooting for a 5ft leash using 21ft lengths of cord. Due to the short length, this one is probably not going to be very functional.
Anyone able to tell me how many ft I need for each length to make a 6ft leash
Use 4 cords 25 1/2 ft long
What is the diameter of the rope?
I cant seem to get past the foot rope knot
What's the diameter for this leash? I want to make this for my dog.
Is the handle adjustable?
Thank you for this, very detailed and easy to follow. What is the tool that you use at the end called? ❤️🇨🇦❤️
A marlin spike. But any blunt tipped stick will do - crochet needles, a piece of plastic hanger that's been filed/sanded to a long tapered point. Or my personal favorite: the round-tipped needle-nosed pliers you use in making wire jewelry

Thanks for another easy to follow video. I think I will try this as my next paracord project. Maybe with 4 colours. :-)
Does this work with 4 strands the same as 8?
My lazy man's dog leash is sitting here for weeks now unfinished because I can't get the finish knot. no matter how many times I stop and start the video I can't get it right. Grrr.
im high af and cant stop laughing.... thank you for the instruction
If 17 feet of cord are for a 4ft long leash, how much for a 6ft long?
22 feet long
I’ve seen braids like this but there are 2 middle pieces? What would this braid be named
Nice explanation of this video!! I would like to ask you to explain better monkeyfist keychain with DOUBLE GAUCHO KNOT-i am sick and tired trying to get it, because of turning it around while explaining, i loose sequence on the third round- thank you!
Tried it, worked very nice!!
